Are pantyhose a thing of the past?

We live in a warm climate, and I don't recall seeing anyone under the age of 70 wearing them. Work dress codes are different here too, nylons are optional.

If I worked in a non-warm weather climate, I'd wear them. My legs are too cold and feel too bare otherwise!! Also, in an office I'd wear them. (except there, because no one wears them--it's Hawaii!)

I'm in my early 40's and have not worn them for years and years! I do have some spanx I wear under my little black dress for the "smooth" effect.

I do see that colored tights are in, and may give that a whirl.

So does this mean that when you wear a skirt or dress in the winter you go with bare legs? Or is there something else I am missing?

I do the bare legs thing. Like others, I'm a fan of Spanx. I think pantyhose are horrible and remember being made to wear them as a kid. I've never worn them as an adult. In the winter, I usually don't wear short skirts or short dresses anyway but if I did I would probably wear tights.

Perhaps her mother is wearing open~toed shoes also.:scared: The daughter may have wanted to be sure there would be no open~toed/pantyhose combos going on there.

That is scary! If you're going to wear open-toed shoes, at least get footless hose. Do people not realize how terrible this looks?

Same here!! My mom EXPECTS me to tell her if she looks silly or unfashionable...and I do the same with my girls...I always have them with me when I try on clothes for their opinion.

When my mom and I see someone out who is horribly unfashionable we look at each other and say, "she must not have a daughter to tell her how dumb that looks!!" :lmao:

:goodvibes When I see kids not looking so good I always say to the DD's "Do they have a mother."

I know I do. I haven't worn panty hose in a loooong time. I grew up going to Catholic schools with the uniforms, so I am very used to bare legs in the winter.

I personally wouldn't mind if they never sold panty hose again.

I like wearing pantyhose/footless hose. I think it makes my legs look better with a dress/skirt.

I think it's more of a personal preference. I'm really not going to let what others feel is fashionable influence me to stop wearing what I like. Fashions change constantly. The fashion industry is going to make sure of that...$$$ :)

I have to agree completely with ya, Elaine. I went to Catholic school for all of my 13 years. I think I wore white tights a few times in HS, but otherwise - it was bare legs. I learned to adapt ;)

I can't stand panty hose. I do own tights now for "special occasions" :)

lol ... just yesterday I was walking into work behind a woman and thought to myself, "why do her legs look so weird?" ... I looked closer and realized it was pantyhose, which I feel like you just don't see any more! Personally, I have never worn pantyhose ... not once ... and I am thirty.

Actually, I never really understood the point of it in the first place. Is it to color your legs (and why do they need to be colored if the rest of your body is not??)? To keep them warm?
What?? :confused3

The girls at HOOTERS always have pantyhose on.

I wear stockings or tights under skirts....I live in a cold climate and when I go to job interviews and stuff I feel weird and cold in naked legs.

I would say out for teens, but for mature women with veins and stuff, I think hose are a nice thing.

I think they are quickly becoming a thing of the past...

I wear tights if I need something and it's bitter cold (like with my knee high boots and skirts). I wear Spanx with anything that needs support and smoothing.

Otherwise, nothing on the legs.

Pantyhose :scared1:

I think tights are a cute look in cooler weather.
Of course everyone should wear whatever makes them feel pretty.....

I'm starting to feel old for the first time. Will this be like when we took our mothers girdles away from them:rotfl:

We don't have girdles, we have Spanx ----- but they do the exact same thing :thumbsup2

Spanx and girdles are not the same thing! Girdles flatten your stomach but in the meantime push all the fat from your stomach up so that it appears as a large roll above your panty line. Spanx were designed to solve that problem.

Where have I been? I see panyhose everywhere I go..to church, to the theater, on cruises. Someone forgot to tell me, but I leave for a cruise next Saturday..and they are packed. I guess I should get them out of the suitcase :confused3

:scared1: I hate pantyhose. :scared1: I do admit if I have to go to court I'll still wear them, but that's the only time. Something about judges...:confused3 But really minus court appearances, I haven't wore panythose in forever. I can't even remember.

I saw the editor of Vogue magazine on some talk show and she said she doesn't care if it's the coldest day of the year, NO PANTIHOSE! For what that's worth! ;) She says tights are fine.

I don't wear pantihose either, but I generally do what I want when it comes to fashion!

I don't know what Spanx is.

How long has this been going on? :confused3 And why wasn't I notified? :teeth:

I had no idea you weren't supposed to wear those incredibly itchy uncomfortable oh no I have run right before I go out THINGS!

seriously...in winter...you just go barelegged and bare feet in your shoes?
to church? at Christmas?
:confused3
