Are OKW studios that much roomier than all the others?

We are using lots of our points for this next trip for a 4 day Wonder cruise. We're also spending time at OKW for the first time in a studio. But the time after the cruise is still up in the air about where we're staying, either the BW studio or OKW studio. Is there really that much of a difference in space that you would choose it over BW?

As an owner at BCV, I wondered the same thing. Well, back at the beginning of July, I found out for myself. The room was nice, and it was bigger than at the BCV, but I think I would rather have the conveniences of being closer to EPCOT, and MGM. I don’t plan on staying at OKW any time in the future.

No there is not that much difference at the studio level...maybe one square yard more space by measurement...the room is oddly shaped so it is not noticeable but it has TWO Queens instead of a queen and fold out sofa as the other resorts have in their studios...so if you need TWO QUEEN beds it is better...if you don't then BWV is better as it seems bigger without the two big beds in there...

It is 31 to 35 square feet larger than others, but that extra space will be taken up by having 2 queens in the room.

All I stay in is studios. The sqr footage Pa@okw quoted sounds right...which is comparable to a sheet of plywood. Open floor space, yes the 2nd queen bed takes that room. But if you're using the sofa bed for kids, then the lost floor space is very noticable at the other resorts when the sofa is open.

IMO... the overall feel of an OKW studio is HUGE compared to the others. And before anyone thinks I'm a "homer" for OKW, I also own at VWL & BCV with VWL being my favorite.

I love the OKW 1BR and 2BR but I do not care for the studio. I don't know whether there is less soundproofing or because of where the connecting door is, but every time I have stayed in one, I can hear too many sounds from the adjoining unit.

I think it depends a little on how many people you have going. If it is just 2 of you, the extra bed is a little difficult for some folks, but we have found our guests just use it to store purchases!:p There is a small table for two, but some prefer the small sofa at BWV/BCV/VWL. I think the extra space in the bathroom at OKW is the big draw here, as well as the fullsized closet.

.... What are your check-in days in Oct and Dec...... maybe I can just refer to your countdown clocks since I'm too lazy to set up my own.

I stayed in an OKW studio with three other friends a few years back...and I got sick with a cold while we were there! We are all still friends....but it probably was not the best choice of accommodations. Now I get a little stir-crazy in any of the studios if I am there for more than a couple of days. However, we do stay in them to beat the higher points on the weekends - and then move over to larger accommodations.

I have not found much of a space difference, except that one of the studios we were in at BCV had a huge patio and a huge entryway....it was the end unit and was more oddly shaped than usual. We'll be at SSR in two weeks, so I'll get to see that one soon.

THe BWV are 356-359 sq feet
THE OKW are 390 sq ft

So 31 to 34 square feet is an added size difference of under 6 by 6 feet...

given it's odd shape, the extra bed---we found the OKW studios

feel no bigger and in a way actually seem smaller.

I have "studioed" in both OKW and VWL. While the studio at OKW is definately bigger, with the odd shape and second bed (instead of the pull-out couch) at OKW, we found the studio at VWL easier to deal with and preferable. Also, with two young children, the convenience to Magic Kingdom also worked in VWL's favor.

My countdown reflects a Sunday October 17 check-in, but we just added two days in a studio at the beginning, so we will be there from the 15-22. December is a check-in on the 1st and out on the 10th. Might add a day there too.

Well as long as you don't adjust your Oct clock, that one will work perferct for me. I check in on the 5th in Dec........ so at least I'll know when I'm close on you 2nd clock.

ok, thank you everyone. That is just what I was looking for. Thanks also for those that took the time to look up the square footage, very helpful.

This is all really good info. My mom and I are staying in and OKW studio in December. I was wondering, are all the studios adjoined to another room? I don't know if I really want to be that close to somone else. Any suggestions on a good building to suggest we request? We want to be close to a bus stop and, if possible, a quiet pool...but most important is, again if possible, not being adjoined to a different room. Thanks!

The fact that they are adjoining rooms doesn't mean you're any closer or further away from your next door neighbor. The adjoined rooms substitute back-to-backs for abount an inch of sheet-rock and a couple 2X4's.

And I think there are a couple dedicated studios at OKW, but I'm not certain.

They join to a one bedroom at OKW. The door from the studio to the one bedroom is located near the hall-way and the living room of the one bedroom. The masterbedroom of the one bedroom is way down a hallway and behind a door. No chance of hearing anything from the bedroom of the one bedroom. If they happen to stay up and have the TV on loud in the living room I don't know if you can hear that also. I stay in one bedrooms all the time and only on one vacation did I hear noise coming from the studio attached, the kids were screaming, the parents were also. That is one trip out of 17. Most people do not use the living room for a bedroom in one bedrooms so things usually are quite for both sides. At OKW you are always close to a bus stop and pool, so that is no problem.

I would recommend staying away from the end of SOUTHPOINTE--"Close" to a bus stop or pool or anything for that matter would not be my description of this location....actually it is very close to Buena Vista drive and the noise from it...and the studios are close to the noisy airconditioners...can you tell how happy I was with my handicapped accessible studio in this location??? but hey we were still at WDW!

You must be talking about buildings49 and 50. The other South Point buildings are VERY close to the bus stop, except for those two.

I'm so excited to finally be going back to OKW. I haven't been there since it first opened. It will be so nice to experience it again. We'll be in a studio so it's nice to hear that it has 2 queen beds. It's so much more comfortable than a sofa bed.
