I went to the Disney Official Site.....and for fun tried to see how much some on-site prices would be.....
I then plugged in for a Deluxe resort (Contemporary ) for Early Sept. of this year and the price was....$6,957.00 for 8 nights. (4 adults (self,DH,DD(19) and DS(17)..... (same price for 2 adults) - 8/21/04 8nites. --!! it was actually cheaper !! ($5,218) for GF.

Ummm, is this for real? It was about the same for AKL.
$1,587 for DPOR-Riverside. I'm sorry, but $5,000 for a fancy hotel for a week? I'm sorry.........I truly love Disney magic, but I will treat myself to a special...whatever before I spend that much money on a room. Oh, my gosh. I was reading the Official Guide for WDW and I could have sworn I read you can get a Standard room at AKL til august for $2,000 ($250x8) - how come the price was so incredibly high while trying to book at the Disney Official Site.

I guess I will miss the magic during a 2005/2006 stay - if I go, Our trip this coming June we will be staying in a 2 bedroom timehare with kitchen for week for $500), but I will just be asleep dreaming of the day's magic that happened.
Please don't see me as a grump........I love Disney as much as everyone (I mean I wrote a report on Walt Disney for a 6th grade project!!!!) hee and have been to Disneyland every year since I can remember (6yr old?).......so I LOVE Disney, but these prices?
I WAS dreaming of AKL in Aug. of 2006. I would be able to budget a $2,000 stay but $5,000? no way.

Check out mousesavers.com

They continually have great discounts codes available. I am not sure how many actually pay the rack prices you were seeing.

I think when you run the numbers online, Disney automatically puts out the rates for either preferred or concierge rooms. That could be accounting for the high price. I would run the quote again, and when it comes up, on the right hand side, edit the room type to standard and see what comes up.

Since you're stay is still a year/2 years from now, there wouldn't be any codes out yet, so the price quoted would be rack rate. Stay tuned to this forum & checking mousesavers would definitely help you in reaching your goal.

I was like you at first. I thought Disney resorts are extremely expensive, but by doing the research and with the help of this board, we were able to get deluxe rooms at AKL for $124/night for May, and $200 for Boardwalk Inn. It was a savings of almost 50% off rack rate.

So.... in conclusion to my long post, I wouldn't drop those dreams just yet. I think you'll still be able to have your AKL dream.

Good luck:hyper:

Thanks For the hope. I will certainly check with mousesavers.com and DIS boards? too.........for any discount codes. "Rack Rates"...funny phrase. hee hee .........so you would suggest about a year ahead of the planned trip....reserve and then when it gets closer to the time, start checking for codes?

How did you get ALK for $124.00 a night? What discount did you use?

I was just browsing the price of an AP (only about $134 more than a 5-day park hopper tix)
Not too bad for the discounts you can get - (via mousesavers.com)..........Is that how you were able to get $124 for AKL? I saw that price in particular for that resort. Okay, I feel a bit better. Not so overwelmed .......I will calm down and just continue planning for June's trip. hee hee hee

I have a question. Would only ONE person in party need to get an AP in order to obtain a discount rate for a room/ free parking/ etc? The rest of the party need only get a reg. park hopper tix.
make sense??

Yes, only one person in your party has to have an AP to get the discounts.

I believe only one person needs the AP. Some have reported it can even be one of the kids, but I wouldn't want to bank on that!!! Others have reported that you need the AP # to book, while others have said you didn't. Go figure!

I'm thinking the Contemporary may have a big convention?? or something? I did 9/3 for 8 nights. CR was your $6957, HOWEVER, Poly (WITH Concierge & Lagoon view) was $4415 and the Grand Floridian was $5441 (ALSO Concierge Room!!) If you drop concierge & take the GF down to a Garden View room, the price goes to $3246 and the Poly goes down to $2890 with a Garden View & no club level.

So my guess is that Contemporary is highly booked for some reason. Would I pay those prices at any of the others? NO WAY!!! My whole vacation will cost less than that for 2 weeks!

Have you thought about the Swan or Dolphin? They have discounted rates you could be eligible for - teachers, nurses, firefighters, gov't, military, Entertainment Book, etc. You aren't on the monorail, but you are at a Deluxe resort. Think about it! There is a FAQ thread locked at the top of the resort boards (along with our highly over-chatty Tips thread that will take you 3 days to read).

I just went out to the Disney site. When you try to book a Contemporary room, the default seems to be a 1 bedroom Garden Wing suite. Click on the button that says view/edit detail. Then near the bottom there is a pull-down menu for room type. Change that for the room type you want and click "update this offer". For example a tower room for 10 nights for 4 adults is about $3434.58.

The price quote for AKL defaults to a pool or savannah view conciege room. A standard view room is closer to $2500 for 9 nights for 4 adults.

Then there will most likely be codes to bring that down lower closer to your trip. Keep an eye on mousesavers and the resorts boards here for more information.

Yes, this is AP rate which I believe is $10 cheaper than code rate (I think BBY or BCG).

Again, depending on your level of commitment, AP might be the way to go. I know it was for us, because so far we've been down there Nov 03, Feb 04 and now May 04, and thinking of Oct 04. So getting APs for us was a good deal.

I think a lot of people have book on rack rate, paid their one night deposit, and when codes come out, apply it to their reservation. So I would just keep watching.
