Are Mine Train FPs still essentially unattainable for offsite guests

We have some friends staying off-site who are planning to go in a little over a month for their first WDW trip (will be there the week AFTER President's Week).

I've been giving them some touring plan advice. They don't care about seeing Anna & Elsa but do want to ride SDMT so I've told them that SDMT is their highest priority FP but that I'm not sure whether it will be available for them.

Should I not even bother to give them a touring plan that involves getting a FP for SDMT (and just advise them to try to ride SDMT standby at park opening)?

They are sometimes difficult, but definitely not impossible.

We recently stayed off-site so were only able to book our FP ressies 30 days out and we had no problem at all getting a FP. And this was for a day during the marathons with crazy-busy crowds

I was able to 5 for the same day all (within 15minutes of each other, so there was a 45min window of shared time) within 2 weeks of my trip this month.

As a single passholder I have no problems getting a pass for Mine Train. Try looking for just one slot at a time and keep on trying.

Another option is to get in line about 5 minutes before MK closes. The wait is usually less than 30 min because there isn't anyone returning with a FP to increase the wait time.

I read a tip that said you were better off going to 7DMT first thing in the morning rather than "wasting" a fast pass on it. There will be six in my party, and I was planning on doing this and using the fast passes for thunder, splash, and space, but now I'm wondering if I should get one for 7DMT and try and get thunder or splash fast pass at the park kiosk.

Anyone have any tips/insight onto this "mountain" dilemma? I knew the old system inside and out, but now I don't know which rides are running out of fast passes sooner or which are easier to get (especially for a larger party)... :worried:

I believe that you read that, but I don't get how a FP+ for 7DMT is "wasting" a FP. What's the logic behind that? My guess is it would be easier to get a FP for one of the other mountains as the 4th FP of the day.

Even if 7DMT has shorter waits in the morning, it will still have longer waits at rope drop than the three traditional mountains. Why not get a FP for 7D and rope drop one (or more) of the other mountains?

That was the word the site I saw used, which is why I put it in quotes. I agree that it wouldn't be a waste. I guess my question is if you go right at rope drop, are the lines really that long?

That's a good question, problem is that in February it's cold in the morning, so I wouldn't ride Splash first thing. I guess we could go straight to Thunder, but then that would mean getting fast passes to Space, 7DMT, and Splash, which would mean having to run from one end of the park to the other My strategy has been to book the earliest times I can, so that we might have a chance of booking more at the park. Which brings up the question again about booking 7DMT fast passes. Assuming that the attraction is still widely popular, I'm guessing that most people are booking fast passes for that, meaning that because I'm staying off property the fast pass window will be later in the day, making it harder to get additional fast passes.

I may sound anal here, but my niece and nephew will be with us this trip, and the one time they did go to WDW they didn't get to see or do much, and so didn't have the greatest of times. I'm trying to do my best to plan so that they'll be able to see some of the cool stuff they didn't see before...
