Are memorials (window decals, roadside, tattoos) popular where you live?

I really think the ones on the road need some kind of policy as to what is permitted. Maybe just the one white cross or something. The flowers, balloons, candles, stuffed animals and such are really distracting. But, I understand the need to put something in the spot. I am glad my family member chose not to do it, but still understand the need.

IMHO, all of it comes from not wanting your loved one to be forgotten. Its just like wanting someone's name on a building on a college campus or on the high school football field; not everyone can do that but they can do other things like stickers on car windows, memorials by the roadside and or tats.

I don't think I would want some big gaudy tat that has a memorial blazoned across my back, but if I wasn't terrified of needles I could see a small one that just symbolizes the person to be remembered. (a rose for someone named Rose, a frog for someone who collected frogs, that kind of thing) Most people do think of their tats as being something personal and not really "putting it out there".

we have always had the roadside ones - they are tacky if unattended. Soggy, dirty stuffed animals and faded plastic flowers are tacky.

the window decals are becoming more popular - don't care much for those either.

tats - don't care what others choose to do to their own bodies.

:)

The window decals are quite common here. Most tend to be for people who died young though.

The roadside memorials are also common.

I hate to say that I am not fond of either. But people need to do what they need to do. If it helps? So be it.

Tattoos in general I do my best to ignore. I don't know of there are a lot of memorial ones or not around here.

We see a lot of that around here and I just don't get it.

Other than the roadside ones, I can't honestly say I have seen any window, car, or tattoo memorials..:confused3

Both roadside memorials and window decals are very common here in New Mexico. The roadside memorials are known as "descansos" here which mean resting places in Spanish. The tradition started in the 1940's. Some of them are very simple crosses and others are bigger and often are made out of various materials. There is a law here that they can't be destroyed and if they are removed for work reasons they must be put back.

Window decals are quite popular here.
