Are latex gloves still used in Disney kitchens?

My sister is thinking of joining us in august. Unfortunately she is allergic to latex, so any food she would think of eating cannot be prepared near or by latex gloves. Last time she was there, she couldn't eat because of this. Does anybody know if it's still true?

thanks.

Almost all the gloves are now Vinyl. Definately call ahead and let them know though!

All of the Disney owned restaurants have switched to using vinyl gloves in the preparation of food. However the sit down restaurants in Epcot are not Disney owned therefore they may still use latex gloves. We found this to be the case at atleast LeCellier and Les Chefs de France, the two Epcot restaurants we tried to eat at on recent trips. We have also found that at some Disney owned restaurnts certain entrees are prepared off site and they were unable to state if latex was used during preperation, so my mom makes sure what she orders was prepared on site. 50's Prime Time cafe was one such restaurant- Pot Roast and some other dishes aren't made there. When making your ADR's be sure to have them note it on the reservation and the chef will come to your table to discuss it with you- at all the restaurants. Also when making ADR's they have also been able to connect us with some of the restaurants to discuss the issue.

I know how hard this can be, my mom has a severe latex allergy and it requires a lot of planning. We have had a few dinners where she has said you guys go ahead and eat while she waited for us and grabbed something else later. Good luck!

As a fellow sufferer, I sympathize with your sister completely. Mine are severe enough to potentially require an EpiPen and always have benadryl with me. One thing that she should know about is whether or not she has cross reactivity with pineapple; if she does, she should stay AWAY from Aloha Isle where they do Dole Whips. The likelihood of cross contamination is VERY VERY high, even if she orders something that does not normally contain pineapple.

For additional information about latex allergies, since she might not know all of the potential cross reactive foods, I would recommend that she check out http://latexallergyresources.org/ as they have links to cross reactivity information, etc.

Enjoy the Magic!
