Are lanyards necessary?

I made mine out of paracord. I'm used to wearing one at conventions, so it's not big deal to me. That said, I didn't always use a lanyard on our last cruise. It was probably 50/50.

WOW WOW WOW!!! The LAST thing I'm looking into that picture is the lanyard. Tell more about the three important things on the glass shelves!!!

They're not necessary, we used on one board to hold our room key and sea sickness tablets. It was easy and convenient, especially since we never had to take the key out of the lanyard except to charge to the room in the stores.

I don't get the point of lanyards either. Maybe a lanyard is practical if you are wearing an outfit without pockets, like a sun dress or something. But otherwise, is it really than much of a challenge/inconvenience to pull it out of your pocket when needed?

If you want to flaunt your DVC, Gold or Platinum status, that's fine but I don't think most people care. Aesthetically, I think they just look stupid.

Nice CT helmets, by the way. I have a Cody, Gree, Rex and ARF myself. ;)

I carry the lanyard, rather than wear it. I rarely have pockets but hate anything bulky in them. :thumbsup2

I bought ours from the Disney Store.

They are normally $8.95, but I got them quite a bit cheaper when they had a sale not too long ago. They seem to have sales pretty often. The fabric on the lanyard part is nice and soft. I've had some lanyards that are itchy - these are not. The little wallet is a nice size and not heavy.

I've got a pink leather Coach lanyard that I can use also :)

I use one every day at work so I planned on all of us using them on the ship. Well I was going to pick up this one (above) because everyone talked about how good it is. The first day the stores aren't open till your at sea and we had to go to sail away party, dinner, then the show, etc... We never did end up buying them or missing them. We all had pockets.

Now this made me always check my pockets to make sure I still had it. A few times we would be in our stateroom getting ready to leave and we would check to make sure we all had our cards and I would feel for mine and it wouldn't be there. I would freak out for about 30 - 60 seconds before I realized it was in the wall slot for the lights. :rotfl: Next time I am bringing a dummy card (with a small magnet on the back to sick to the wall) for the lights. :goodvibes

That's the one I have! I just pulled it out to take with me on my Holland America cruise to Alaska in a couple of weeks. If I can't BE on DCL I can pretend!! :)

This discussion makes me wonder if they'll ever scrap the cards and go to MagicBands for DCL...

:lmao: The bottom helmet is an Episode II clonetrooper helmet by Sideshow. The middle one is an Episode III by Sideshow. The top one is my personal helmet, used with my 41st Elite Clonetrooper armor when I troop with the 501st Legion.

I'm not generally a fan of lanyards but, strangely enough, on board I tend to wear one all the time. Go figure. :beach:

Same here! It's just convenient and I don't have to worry about it falling out of my pocket and losing it. Men can put it in their wallet, but such a hassle to pull out everytime you need it. ;) lol!

I actually wear a lanyard everyday at work, so the days I am on the ship is no different. I like wearing it because it's easy to find and I don't have to search pockets to remember where I left it. Having a lanyard on often leads to conversations with others. I am somewhat outgoing but of course I don't think I am over the top. Remember those moments when the elivator door opens and you step in...... well I say, "hey, you are gold... how many cruises is that?" they say "6" and then the door opens and off I go. And yes, I think I earned right to have a CM say "welcome back" when he sees me.

My DW doesn't wear hers, she doesn't want anyone talking to her because she is shy, until she starts talking.....::yes::

I wear a lanyard in the Disney parks frequently, and also at conventions, but I got a wristlet to bring on the boat. A friend gave me her silver (I think?) lanyard - DH may use that.

I wear it all the time on the cruise. I then went a step further this cruise by getting everyone a bigger one to go with disneys. Ordered off Amazon as it held iphones some cash kttw Credit card and ID. I got them because they were waterproof so my kids took pictures while snorkeling ziplining pool aquaduck or whatever. Nothing got wet. Never once we while on excursion did i hear..wheres my phone..my money..my KTTW card etc ....It was hanging around your neck :)

If you always carry the lanyard in your hand, then I am wondering why bother with it at all? Why not just carry the key card by itself?

Just wondering if lanyards are necessary...I don't like them for some reason.

.....nope.......... I don't either........been on 12 cruises........used one on cruise # 1 ,back in 2004.......... Happy Cruisin'

I agree.:)

DH carries his in his pocket, but I have a fear of mine falling out. I've more peace of mind just wearing it around my neck.

Have to wear one every day at work and don't like it. When on vacation I just carry everything in my pocket or small purse.

If you don't want to wear a lanyard but you want the convenience of having easy access to your KTTW card, I would bring a cross body bag to toss your lanyard in. That way, you aren't fishing around in your purse for your card since it will be attached to the lanyard. :)

Women's clothes don't always have pockets making the lanyard more necessary. On our last cruise, I did often use a small cross body bag instead of the lanyard so that I had space for a few other odds and ends.
