Are kids allowed at the daytime beverage tastiings?

Everything everyone else said: it's listed as an adult activity in the navigator, no bringing kids is not an option.

The tastings I have participated in have most certainly NOT been kid friendly. One group was having a rollicking good time after 5/6 drinks, one group was more subdued but there were plenty of adult jokes thrown around and the third group was slightly insane and there were several comments about some being worried they'd fall asleep in their soup at dinner. :drinking1

I've never tried any of the adults only events, but reading all the responses, I kept thinking what exactly is going on in these rooms that a kid can't be in a far corner on a kindle or whatever, most likely not even paying attention? After all, I thought it was just a "tasting". I'm now highly intrigued and want to partake.

And, of course, I won't bring my kids. It truly would never have occurred to me to even think about bringing them when it is " adults only". On the other hand, I, for one, could care less if someone else brought their kid. BUT don't get upset if your kids see me running around half naked with some Disney alcoholic concoction spilling out of my glass and spouting four-letter words left and right. :faint:

Definitely a NO with kids in the tastings. My husband and I look forward to our adult only time in the tastings, they are always a lot of fun. Recently, for the first time after many of these experiences, we had a 21 year old in the tasting who had quite the potty mouth and I think was drunk before he arrived. You would not want your child there.

As far as kids clubs, (I have not read entire thread) bring your child to the club the first day. They get to know other kids and counselors. My kids love going as soon as they can! If you wait a few days to go to the club, they might just think they are missing all the fun with you.

Enjoy!

This should be simple.
It's an ADULT activity. NO KIDS PERIOD.

I don't care how perfect your kids are....mine were perfect too. But if they offer things for adults who want "adult only" time, then that's what it should be.

If your kids don't want to go to the Clubs for an hour, then don't book an adult activity.
Simple. No buts.

The answer to this is pretty simple:

If the area the tasting is in is adult-only then no kids will be allowed in (ie, Cove Cafe, clubs at night, etc). Also some tastings are large enough that they reserve the entire room in which case anyone not having a ticket will not be allowed in.

If the area is "mixed-use" the tasting typically takes up a small portion of it and other people are welcome to be in the area just not partake of the beverages and this will include children.

DCL policies aside you should carefully consider the atmosphere of some tastings as they can get pretty crazy...especially the mixology. Not really appropriate for a child to be in.

I agree that you should not participate in these with your child for a couple of reasons. I read a review by a couple who were childless and went to them after they had been drinking all day. I am not saying there is anything wrong with that, I am just saying that sometimes there could be behavior of other adults that perhaps a child should not witness. I think after a "tasting" you can feel pretty good! Sounds like fun.

Another thought is that others may have put their kids in the club or even paid for the nursery to have this adult time. If they are choosing to have adult time away from their kids I am sure they are not planning to spend that time with someone elses child.

Wow. As a person who saw kids at "adult only" activities on a daily basis I think people's concerns that there might be a child present at an adult activity are reasonable. Disney does not do a good job enforcing age limits on these sorts of things so it's nice to know in advance what you are getting in to. I also thought this thread was pretty civil until accusations of stupidity got thrown into the mix.

:thumbsup2

Let's put it this way: Even if they do hold a tasting in a "mixed use" room.....if my kid is the type who doesn't want to go to the Kids Clubs, and wants to "be with me" all the time, what are the odds that this same kid is going to go off and sit quietly in a corner with a Kindle, or coloring book, or whatever??:confused3:confused3
Slim to none. If he/she "wants to be with me" then that means he/she is going to want to stand/sit right there "with me".

Sorry, but I think that's unacceptable.

Bingo started out as adults only, and then little by little, people would bring their kids in, and the CM's allowed it. Now it's overrun with kids, crunching up the used cards and tossing them at the CM's, and the CM's interact with the kids....it slows the game down (been late for dinner a few times) and while it's a fun thing for families, it's not so fun for people who really like to play some semi-serious Bingo and remember the "old days" on DCL.

Well all the drink tastings I've been to are pretty tame. I've never done or said anything at a drink tasting that could not have been done or said in front of my kids.
Where are these inappropriate gatherings happening:confused3
I feel like I've been missing out:lmao:

Seriously, a whiny child or a crying baby would put a damper on my experience...but a kid sitting there quietly wouldn't bother me.

Just my 2 cents....

I can assure you that I am serious when I say it was very "adult" - obviously mixology/tequila/rum is going to have a very different vibe from a wine tasting. I'm sure it also depends largely on the personalities in the room.

The ones I have attended have had multiple (think 5-6-7 drinks) and one of them was 6 full sized mixed drinks where we made our own.

Yeah. It was not kid friendly and was a BLAST.

I second this assessment! The tequila tasting I attended was a small group...no more than 8 or 10 of us. Because we had such a small group and so much alcohol, it became quite the rowdy place to be. If you haven't tried a tasting, be sure to sign on for one. It is a really good time and oh, I actually learned a few things! :rotfl2:

As an adult, I would think having children running around during an adult activity would put a damper on an experience I paid extra money to have and as a parent I wouldn't bring to my children to a drinking activity for adults.
I agree with you 100%

I love being around my kids. My kids are freaking awesome. I do NOT expect other people to be as enchanted with my children as I am. In general I like other people's kids too but if I'm somewhere doing something and my children and I are taking a break from each other I sure as heck don't want to be spending that time with someone else's kid. To me it just seem counter-intuitive that you would take a kid to an alcohol tasting anyway. :confused3

Personally, a child has no place in a bar, period, unless there are family, CHILD friendly events being held. Mixology and alcoholic beverage tastings are for ADULTS! We personally did a tequilla tasting on our last cruise, it was a blast, and THANKFULLY, the family that had four children tearing the bar/stage all to pieces, in places they should NOT have been in the first place, while their parents sat sipping drinks left before it started! I know that Disney caters to children and I applaud that, we have grandchildren and we take them to Disney regularly, however, on our last cruise without family or little people we wanted to experience adult type activities, without children. That said, if children need to be with their parents for whatever reason, then parents should pick CHILDREN/FAMILY oriented activities and alcohol tasting/mixology isn't one of them!

I can assure read that I can read and am not stupid and neither are the other posters that commented on this thread. As someone who HAS been on a Disney cruise with my children, I certainly know not to take them to tastings or to any of the adult activities for that matter. There are so many areas for children that I see no reason to take them into areas for adults. I certainly have no problems breathing the same air as a child since I do have children of my own, however this cruise will just be DH and myself and I would not expect to see children in a mixology or tasting seminar especially considering that they are listed on the navigator under adult activites. As an adult, I would think having children running around during an adult activity would put a damper on an experience I paid extra money to have and as a parent I wouldn't bring to my children to a drinking activity for adults.

Nevertheless, the PP makes a good point in that to the extend the area is not restricted there may indeed be children in the vicinity even if the parents are not participating.

The most likely space to have this "conflict" about mixed use space vs adult only is Diversions or 687. The only tasting I have seen here is the beer option which could very well be held pretty far away from the back tables with games, etc. Your experience might vary here. Most of the others are held in Skyline/Cadillac/Pink which are purely bars and are not open to the "public" during tastings.

All of the tastings I've done have been in bars, not mixed purpose lounges. And some of them were small, like Skyline. The La Piazza area on the Fantasy has a bar in the public walkway area, and kids are allowed there. There are often trivia games hosted there.

The only bar in that district I've seen kids inside? O'Gill's Pub. On Sunday afternoon in September, I saw a couple kids watching the football games with their parents. I wasn't bothered by that.

Would I want the same kids at one of the alcohol tasting events? No. Not just because it's listed in the Navigator as an Adult activity. Although for me, that's plenty reason enough. I just think the dynamic in the room would change.

I was surprised to see how many pages this has become so I had to take a peek. Thought it would just be a couple of nos then moved on...:scratchin
The funny thing is, while in O'Gills on the Fantasy for an "adult" trivia game, they asked a family who was there before it started if they would leave since an "adult" activity was going to take place. He also informed a family who came in that for the trivia that it was "adults" only. The reason for quotes? It was just movie trivia, not adult like at all. But the CM respected that is was listed as adult only and kept it that way. I wouldn't have thought children would be at a drink tasting...:confused3 At least the OP had the decency to ask first as no question is unwarranted.

Thank you for summing it up so nicely and concisely! .

And the poster did so without throwing insults out. It was a very good post as are the others. I've actually learned a lot about the new ships and different venues from this thread.

Just a quick tip to help your child feel more comfortable in the clubs -- MY DD7 was not a fan of the clubs on the Dream when she was 6.

This time, before we sailed on the Fantasy, we had her correspond with another little girl she met on the Dis on our cruise meet board and they had "playdates" on board. Also, we took her to the open house right away when we boarded so she could look around. She loved the clubs this time.

In any case, safe travels and have fun!

Please don't quote a post in question. Just report it and let the mods deal with it. I have had to delete several posts from this thread just because people quoted the offending post.

Think "Pirate group" on the PC cruise....specifically the pirate boat in Aruba....I don't think I would have wanted a child around that group when they were drinking...... Obviously quite a few of these people are my friends, but they DID get just a touch out of control at times....
