Are Heelys allowed in the parks?

Our local Giant Food has now banned them. I was wondering how long it would finally take them. There are signs posted on each entrance door stating the fact.

They are now banned at some schools here as well. I was just in DS's school the other day, & there is a sign up stating "Heelies are not allowed...even with the wheels OUT". They just don't want them, period.

I was at CA Adventure 2 weeks ago. I was shocked to see 2 boys skating with wheels that were strapped onto their shoes! They were roller skates! Disney really needs to put a sign up at the park entrance.

Unfortunetly, not all parents are as vigilant as you are....

I think the number one thing is they are not allowed....period.

Kudos to the CM who enforces the park policy! Thank you!

Even if they were allowed...and my DS had a pair of them when he was younger...I not allow him to wear them at the parks for the primary concern of his safety... because there are people stopping right in front of you to look at maps, turns, twists...inclines...and even for a short time before Disney's wonderful CM's can get to it...trash on the ground...that can cause injury to a child.

Last year I saw a child using their heelies as they got off the HM...on the moving platform:scared1:

IMO wheelies should be used on playgrounds and private property only. Most kids are very rude and inconsiderate when using them.

i am not asking all parents to be as "vigilant" as me like you say, but its a real bother when you have kids and some adults riding those annoying things wile you are trying to navigate your way thru the parks with all the people crisscrossing your path, and just like you said also kudos to the Cm's that take care of that problem

Just fyi...my comment about being vigilant was to the OP quote below. :)

I give lots of sincere thanks to someone who takes the time to ask...and unfortunatly it takes the ones who are not careful or inconsiderate to ruin it for those who are....

"WOW I guess I thought people who let their kids wear Heelys would be more carefull. My dd wears her heelys all the time with the wheels in but I guess she just knows better and always holds on to my hand when she rolls, if it's crowded."

well my sincerest apologies but dont take it to heart like it seems you have, you have one of the only DD that actually pay attention and know when its time for that and when its not

I think you're misunderstanding.

When she said
"WOW I guess I thought people who let their kids wear Heelys would be more carefull. My dd wears her heelys all the time with the wheels in but I guess she just knows better and always holds on to my hand when she rolls, if it's crowded."
she was quoting the original poster. She wasn't talking about her own daughter.

Also, the wheels CAN'T be locked they can only be taken out. We have never been able to take them out without the tool BUT kids can still walk in the shoes with the wheels still in.

I will know not to have my dd wear them since it is against park policy. I don't want the evil stares

I have a question for you. Do you require your daughter to wear a helmet anytime she wears her Heelys?

I guess my attempt to clear this up did not work. None of my comments were ever directed at you.....I was replying to the original poster....sorry about the confusion

:confused3

:thumbsup2 Excellent point! Actually the Heelys company recommends not only a helmet but also "protective gear" - knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist pads.

First of all I would to thank everyone who just answered my question without criticizing me :)

As a parent, I wouldn't even ask whether or not my child (first of all he/she does not, nor will ever own Heelys) should wear them in a very crowded place as he/she could cause damage or hurt to someone else.

Tiger :(

Why in the world would you ever criticize someone for asking a question :confused3? Isn't that what these boards are for? Your comment was very uncalled for.

Heelys are very popular these days. There are MANY places that allow heelys (our amusement park is one of them). I can say that I do allow my daughter to wear her Heelys places because she is very responsible with them and since she is only 7 she is right by my side AND knows, when we are out she can only roll on them when she is holding my hand. They do not have to be going at lightening speed to roll.

My reason for asking the question was because I AM a parent who makes my child obey the rules so if heelys are not allowed she will not be wearing them. Maybe there should be more parents like me asking that same question so maybe you would see less of them in the parks.

Does it make a difference? That would not change the policy on Heelys at disney would it?

I'm not sure I really understand how you can wear the shoes and not have the wheels out but - the reason Heelys are banned is not because of the actual shoe. It's the skating part.

It's kind of like a kid walking down the street with a basketball. Or really any person. Do they actually just carry the basketball? No, they bounce it the entire time what are walking. Pure instinct to do that like it would be to skate in Heelys even though you are not supposed it.

Yes you can walk on them with the wheels still being in the shoes.. My dd does it all the time. You can ALSO take the wheels out of the shoes and replace the wheel with a flat piece that you insert in the shoe. I guess it's all about teaching your children when and where it's appropriate to use them.

You mean you didn't come here to get a lecture on proper parenting and safety and what you should be requiring of your daughter when she wears them? I mean, SURELY you wanted that info too...:rotfl:
