I have a very small gap between my front teeth that I had filled in years ago. Now, I've started noticing lots of folks on tv with gap teeth....notably, Jorga Fox of CSI. So, what is YOUR opinion?

i think it depends on the size of the gap and the person's face that the teeth belong to.

I admit to a fondness for them. :lovestruc David Letterman's is adorable.....not sexy, though. :rotfl2: It could be sexy on the right person.

Dental Assistant here....anytime we have a patient who comes in wanting to close the gap I think "oh, no...don't do that!!!" Not the huge ones, but small ones, I like. Since you asked. ;)

I love them.

Look how beautiful Lauren Hutton is and how successful her modeling career has been.

And yes, David Letterman's gap is attractive to me.

With anyone, it's part of who they are. But, if someone is self-concious about it, by all means they should fix it if it will make them feel better about themselves. Otherwise, I think they should be proud of their beautiful smiles!

I haven't seen mine in a l-o-n-g time but I think it's more like Jorga Fox's. I'm considering having it (the fill) removed.

I think a healthy smile is attractive, gap or not. What isn't attractive is that generic, overwhite, Hollywood smile where all the teeth are the same length and veneer perfect. Ick. A little bit of imperfection is endearing and human.

I generally don't really notice them in other people, but I obsess about mine. In photographs, they're not really noticeable, but up close, I feel they are. My largest gap isn't between my front teeth, though; it's between the canine and side-front tooth next to it.

I have a gap similar to one in the picture above (though I have no idea who that person is!). I personally don't like it. My mom ignored the dentist's suggestion to have me see an orthodonist as a kid because there was nothing wrong with any of my other teeth, just a gap between the front ones. It was a trait in her family and she thought it was neat that I got it. I am very aware of my gap and I mentioned it one time when talking to a good friend, and she said she honestly never noticed that I had one!

I think if either of my kids end up with it (which is very unlikely, DD has her adult teeth already and they are beautiful and straight, and DS's baby teeth are crowded, if anything), I will give them they choice if they want it fixed.

it depends on the person

I had a gap, my front teeth were wear my second teeth are. It was bad...when my friends see pictures from that time.....they call me "the hillbilly"

I think its like anything else...some people can get away with it...others (me) can't

I dont like them - but I have one. I never had it until I stopped wearing my retainer waaaaaaay too soon, though. Like 3 days later. :rolleyes1

I was kind of surprised to see so many "no" votes. I really hope that we can get to the point someday where a persons beauty is not measured by the gap in their teeth or the shape of their body, but, instead the quality of their soul.

What a waste of time it is to judge on such minuscule things. :confused3

And no...I don't have a gap in my teeth.

no no no.

i have a serious gap between my top front teeth

(exactly like vanessa paradis, johnny depp's "wife")

but 11 years ago i had a LOT of bonding done, so you'd never know

(extended to include the 3 teeth on either side, total: 8 teeth

cost: would rather not say.....

but i always hated it, so had it done

(it's hereditary - my father and his sister both had it too)

thank goodness it skipped a generation - my DS doesn't have it!!

I'm with you! I can't believe how many people voted this way (and yes, I DO have a little gap):goodvibes AND a good smile, nonetheless!

Personally, I can't stand them. I have this thing with teeth. They must be straight and white or I just cannot deal. I am a freak.:lmao:

I can't say they're attractive or unattractive in general. The bigger ones are not very attractive (think big enough to stick the tip of your little finger into) but smaller than that is just fine. Like the picture that a poster posted earlier on the thread; I didn't even notice anything.

For some reason ever since I had braces, the one thing I notice on people is their teeth. I always notice, white or not, straight or not, long or short. I'm weird, I know. :teeth: <-- Look, his are weirdly square! :p I know that even though I had braces my teeth are not perfect; they're not at all white, some are longer than others from the wear-and-tear of 17 years in a bad bite, etc. I think that little imperfections add character. :) If it's glaring, though, like my bad teeth were, I would get it fixed. Gaps are not my favorite, but I won't say someone is ugly because of them.

I voted "other," because it can be attractive on the right person (usually more on females than males, I think), but I wouldn't say it always is or always isn't.

I have very straight tight teeth...it's a real pain to get dental floss between them, I would welcome somewhat of a gap. Back in grade school, I had a girlfriend that had a huge gap between her teeth, she used to carry her lunch money in there:rotfl:
