I know that the canon and sony cameras are good...How about FUJIFILM cameras? I never buy FUJIFILM camera...but now my eyes are on this FUJIFILM - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black ..It is $250 at bestbuy..

Any suggestions??

Some of their cameras are very nice. It would help to know the model number. There could be many 10MP models. If it is one with the larger sensor (~1/1.6" instead of 1/2.5") then it should perform a little better in low light.

My main camera (until I gather enough money to purchase a dslr) is a Fujifilm s5100. It's about 4 years old, 4mp, 10x zoom. Very honestly I absolutely love this camera and all it can do, and I've never had a problem with it. I would not hesitate for a moment to buy another.

I also have a Canon Sureshot 6mp, 3x zoom that is 3yrs old and cost about $200.00 more than my Fujifilm. It's fine for outside stuff, and great for travel because it's a lot smaller, but I don't care for closer-up and inside pictures it takes. Seems like there is a bit of distortion, almost a fish-eye effect.

My MIL has a J10, and my DH has a z20. We use the z20 for auction photos & my DH letters trucks so he uses it to take pics of trucks for color reference & after they are lettered. For those 2 purposes it is great. Small, compact, lightweight, easy to always have on hand.....BUT, both of these models have terrible shutter lag, and are IMO completely useless for shooting moving people.

I took my MILs camera to church for the last day performance of vacation bible school. I took 25 pictures, and not one of them is worth keeping. In every shot, my DD moved before I could capture the facial expression I shot for. Same with my DH's camera at a party we went to. Outdoors, kids jumping & sliding on inflatables, not a single shot came out right.

Now, the more expensive model you are looking at may be better...but knowing what I know, I would caution you to try before you buy! We bought DH's camera at circuit city & I was trying to steer my DH to a canon instead, but the salesperson convinced him this camera was superior.

Good Luck!

I'm suprised by this. Didn't your DH take the "How to be a good husband" class that we are required to take before vows? He must have missed the "Yes Dear!" unit. He should know that these types of situations require good husbands to just shrug and say "Yes dear!"

I live by this rule. It's never steered me wrong. I now own a Canon. ;) :thumbsup2

My wife has the fuji 50d and she loves it. We have the water housing for it and are taking it on the cruise with us in September. I am fairly picky about cameras and think it is a really nice camera.

:rotfl2: Thanks fop the laugh!

My DH is an impulse shopper. I am a research shopper. I won't tell you how many months I spent shopping for items like baby strollers, cameras, camcorders, etc.

my mom has the fugifilm finepix F31fd and it's honestly the best low light p&s camera i've ever seen. the quality of the low light pictures definitely beats out my dslr. only weird thing is that it takes xD cards.

here's a pic of our cat with my mom's camera.

My first digital camera was a Fujifilm S602. I was always thrilled with the sharpness and the color depth of the pics, and I generally liked the performance of the camera itself.

I eventually upgraded to a DSLR, but I still have the S602 and use it sometimes to take pics around the house.

If you go with a Fuji camera, you probably won't be sorry.

The first camera that my parents bought me when I was a teenager was a Fuji...I have never bought another kind of camera. I love them. I like how the newer models take both SD and XD cards. So I can still use all of the old XD cards that I have, but buy newer SD cards that are bigger and cheaper.

I have a brand new $350 Fuji Finepix f100fd that I'm selling for $290 with a 1GB XD card. It's out of the box because I took a few shots around the apartment. I bought the Nikon D300 and I need to sell this Fuji to help pay for the $3000 package  It's yours if you want it. PM me if you have questions.

That being said. I sell more Fuji cameras than any other. I recommend the newer models especially for their quickness, color quality, flash quality, optics and over all package deal for the price. The one you're probably looking at is the Z100 right or f50 right? Both are great! The Z100 has the 5x optical zoom. The one I have operates at a record level of 12,000 ISO so it'll work in REALLY dark conditions. It has 12 megapixels 5x optical zoom, dual image stabilization, face detection 2.0 technology.
