Are DVC members treated differently than cash customers?

Do the cast members at the resorts treat DVC members differently than the regular cash customers? Better or worse? Are requests/complaints handled the same for both? What has been your experience?

Thanks, John

The CMs have no idea, other then at check in, who is cash paying, and who is a DVC member. They might see it on your card at a resteraunt when making a room charge (more likely then not it is after the act of service). I've never felt like I was treated poorly, and somehow, I always felt the Disney service is among the best,.....perhaps only equaled at a Ritz Carlton.

Although I cant speak from much experience, we were treated very well by CMs at VWL on our first trip. We felt just the same warmth as cash customers at the All- Stars.

DVC members are certainly treated equally to a "regular" guest and sometimes are treated extra-special. Some members also develop relationships with CMs because they visit the same resort multiple times and become "friends" with the CMs.

Pam makes a great point....we've got a few CM's that we now recognize and who, amazingly, remember us from all the people they see each year!

I've never had one negative experience that I can recall due to someone knowing I was a DVC member. Unless you count the people here at home that think buying DVC is nuts!

LOL, Granny! I hear THAT! We have always had GREAT service at OKW from CMs. I think because it is a DVC only resort, it might be less of a difference here anyway. The other DVC resorts are connected to non-DVC hotels, and I believe their check in is in the same location, so there would be some differences, while OKW has all DVC check- ins.

Doesn't OKW have cash, non-DVC guests like the other DVC resorts? If not, is that because it was the first resort, and it was done differently from the resorts that followed? Or does the post simply refer to the fact that when I check in to BCV, other guests are checking into the Beach Club at the same registration desk?

I believe they know us! Last month, I was in Orlando on business and stayed one night at the Caribbean Beach Resort ($149). When I made the ressie via cell phone, the CM at CSR said, "You come here a lot. Are you DVC?" She had every one of my trips up on her computer. I was surprised.
When checking in, the lady who pulled up the ressie saw the same thing. Is this something new? (BTW, I loved CBR.)

Right on all counts, Sam.

OKW does have cash guests, just not as many as it is a DVC-only resort, so the only cash guests coming in are thru the non-declared inventory, or from someone trading out their points.

And, when you check-in at a "shared" resort, you are using the same reservation desk.

That's what I was talking about, CRobin. There are not as many cash guests at OKW since it is not a DVC that is shared with a regular hotel/resort. I think there may be less now than when we first started going. I do encounter a lot of renters each time we are there, but many staying are members.

My son lives in Mount Lebanon. What part of the "city" do you live in?

Other than when we checked in at the Boardwalk Villas we were told they could not honor our requests since DVC members get first choice of any room that is better. This includes smoking, views, etc. They gave us the last possible 2 BR at the far end of the resort. MAJOR walking to the elevators but easy walk down the stairs to the pool or to the pathway to MGM. View was of a parking lot, pathway to MGM and TOT. Very peaceful at the very end of the resort if you don't mind the walk. Didn't see any garbage all other the hallways like I have read.

We peronally have always been treated great. But we oberved something at VWL that may be a reason why some CM's might not be tickle'd pink about DVC members:

First, the disclaimer:I am going to assume this person was a DVC member becaue we had seen him in the Villas, but of course he may have been a renter or cash guest.

We stopped into Roaring Forks for a quick breakfast. This gentleman had brought down his own english muffins and was toasting them.He had compiled basically every free condiment that is provided to put on his muffins - and I'm talking about a whole pile of stuff. He then got the attention of a passing CM and in a rather snotty tone inquired as to where the lemon slices he had requested were. Before she could answer, the CM arrived with his lemon. It was an entire lemon, sliced, wrapped in cheese cloth,in a small saucer. She politely said "Here you go sir" to which he responded " I'm going to need a lot more then JUST that". He took it from her and sat back down. I give that CM a lot of credit, becaue I would have been fired for my gut reaction. She calmly left to get more and we also left at that time so we never got to see if she brought him an entire trees worth of lemons. But all DW and I could think of was that he made us embarrassed to be DVC members.
