Are December bookings way down?

It seems like there is loads of availability, even during Christmas week. Is this typical? From what I've read it doesn't sound like it, but I figured with only a few months to go that resorts would be booked solid for the holidays! Is Disney still in a slump?

Told by CRO that alot of people wait until the last minute.......one reason is the weather.......if it's nice look out!

I have heard that all attendance is down - no matter when you go. Since 9/11, this has been a HUGE issue. We just knocked $1,000 off our upcoming trip because of all the discounts going on. My travel agent said Disney has never discounted like this before. I guess not even that is bringing the normal crowds back.

Just as a heads up, we were there last Christmas and even though things are slower it is still very crowded.

I was there this past New Year's, and I can tell you that the place was PACKED! Even though before we left it looked like there were a lot of open rooms left (and, hardly any discounts out, only if you arrived by a certain date), once we got there we were told everything was sold out. And, it looked like everything was running at it's MAX.

My daughter and her DH just returned from a week at ASMu and they have been to WDW a number of times and could not believe how small the crowds were.
My wife and I are going in early Dec. and we expect light crowds at that time as well.

RIGrandpa - you will have light crowds. Early Dec. is traditionally a very light attendance time for Disney. It is one of our favorite times b/c all the Christmas decorations are up and its beautiful. I'm going to miss them this year as we are going early Nov.
