We'll be going back home to OKW during President's Week with our 2 girls, ages 6 and 9. They want to go swimming, yet I don't know if it will be warm enough to swim in the outdoor pools.

Are any of the pools heated at Disney? or do you think it will be warm enough to swim outside? Anybody been there recently that can give me some advice? I would certainly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance for your help!:Pinkbounc

Odds are it will be warm enough to swim President's Week. Last week (superbowl week) was a bit of an aberration but it happens often enough that I no longer consider going in January to be feasible. So far February has been great...leaving today for a Universal vacation...

I'll bet it will be in the 70's and 80's and after all this cold weather we've been having it will feel hot to you and the pools quite warm. Most pools in florida are heated for some reason....I think Disney pools are supposed to be around 80 (but bigger pools don't retain the heat).

Yes. ALL the pools at WDW are heated. The difference in air temp and water temp is the only consideration. I've seen people swimming at night when it was in the 20's with steam rising from the pool. They wrap up in towels and run like crazy back to the room. ;)

The last I heard they were ALL heated.

We have been swimming while it was in the low 30's to upper 20's. Maybe that was not the smartest thing to do, but we really wanted to swim at least once during our trip.

Hi all,
Not only are all the pools heated at WDW resorts but many of the areas at the water parks are heated also. The lazy rivers are kept nice and cozy. Not sure about the wave pools.

I saw told this november a decision was made in January of 2001 to keep DVC pools heated to 87 degrees. Unfortunately, this was after our too cold to swim 2000 christmas vacation at Vero Beach where the pool was too cold to swim in, but it is nice to know this problem has been fixed.

Our prayers go out to the families of our fallen heroes.

We swam a lot at the quiet pool at OKW last summer. We were in building #56 and the quiet pool was right behind our room. That pool was SUPER-heated. Really warm, so nice. No shivers EVER. I don't know if it was a fluke or this is normal, but if those pools are as warm as they were last Spring, your girls should LOVE them! The main pool was warm but not AS warm. There are also hot tubs by the quiet pools. My kids would go in there for a bit (just their toes) if they got chilly.

Old Key West is a uniquely beautiful place. Lush and relaxing. I think kids pick up on this in all the chaos of WDW. I hope your children love it as much as mine did!

All the pools at OKW are heated and they try to keep them about 80 degrees. That can be tricky because it is not like turning on your thermostat to heat your home. In February in can get difficult to heat the pools properly. If they have an unexpected cold night then the water the next day will be colder, on the other hand if the night gets warmer then expected you could find the pools to be very warm almost bath like. I must confess I never found the large pool at OKW to be warm enough for me, on the other hand the smaller pools sometimes were very much like bath water to me. I have spent many vacations President's week down there and the weather has quite a range, for the hardy you can always swim but sun bathing is sometimes a little too cool. You should have a number of days where you can do both with a little luck.

My DH and I visited HHead during some very (very, very) cold January days and the pool was really warm - plenty of happy kids were playing like it was the middle of the summer!

Thank you so much for your input. It appears unanimous that the pools are all heated (the smaller ones especially) and I look really forward to be able to let the kids swim a bit during our vacation.

Once again, thank you all for your advice and for taking the time out to respond to me.

I was there once when it was in the 20's at night. I saw a statue of a swimmer wrapped in a towel in the running position. Think it could have been a guest who wasn't fast enough? Naw couldn't be. Then again, the statue wasn't there the next morning.:jester:

I would have to think long and hard before doing that, but I'm getting to be an old goat. Now if I was in my 20's I'd do it. Only to be young again.
