I read somewhere that all pools are going to be gated and locked is this true? I know AOA has the RFID gate but I guess I didn't notice if it was inaccessible in the evening. Just curious when this will take effect. Thanks so much!

New rules will be in force for the pools at the Walt Disney World resorts beginning this November (2013). Not all the pools are fenced in, so even when they are officially closed, guests are still able to swim, though there are no lifeguards overnight. Fences will be added around any pools that don't currently have them, so guests will only have access when there are lifeguards on duty. The pools will be closed from 11:00pm to 7:00am.

One possible reason for this change could be the drowning of a little boy in March in the Pop Century. The boy was swimming with relatives at 9:30 pm; lifeguards are only on duty until 8:00pm.

Only the main or feature pools are gated and few if any (outside of DVC) are actually locked. You should not see anything different (usage wise) now then in the past. I would not worry about it.

During my December Holiday at All-Star Sports the Pools WERE closed(both Surfboard Bay and Grand Slam) during non-lifeguard hours.

They had not added fencing at Sports, but had large signs on all sides of the Pools stating they were closed.

I think this is a good thing! It keeps everyone safe. :thumbsup2 I guess this means that there will be a life guard on duty until 11pm?

Nice to hear ppl at Sports comply. At pop, they dont give a hoot about the signs that are up, and the fact that its dark/all lights are off. They still swim at all hours of the night. :confused3 I've seen it at pop many many times.

The pool at Kidani is fenced & it is locked at 11pm, pool closing. The hot tub is also within the fence & closes when the pool does.

The pool at Jambo House is not fenced, but has posted closing hours as 11pm.

The pool at Poly is not fenced in but also has posted closing hours of 11pm.

That's all I know for sure as of last week!

I have no idea how they would do this at WL - it's kind of in the middle and the fencing would certainly interrupt the theming. I'm guessing they'll also post a "closed" sign type of thing???

I'm 36 years old. If I want to go for a late night swim, I should be able to. I enjoy late night swims after being at the parks all day and hope I will still be able to. If you don't like to, that's fine, but don't infringe on other guests ability to do so.

I don't think Disney is trying to infringe on your right to swim late at night. I think they're just trying to avoid lawsuits.

BUT - it's not your house, it's someone else's. If swimming is not allowed, for whatever reason, you should respect that. Yes, you pay but that's your choice. If you don't like the rules, don't stay there.

I was at CSR in November, after the time the pool closings were announced and due to take effect. The main pool at CSR (dig site) was not fenced or roped off in any way. Each entrance DID have closed signs, so I'd presume people would get in trouble if they ignored the signs. However, none of the quiet pools were fenced off and none had closed signs. We did see people swimming at night. Not sure if its changed since, but at the time, no one was enforcing it. :confused3

IT WOULD BE A GREAT RULE - PLUS THE FENCES ;);););)

We stayed at the WL, a few years back, pool view - guests swam in the pool all hours of the night and made lots of noise. We hated the pool view and the noise.

I hope fences are in place next time we visit and stop guests swimming 24 x 7.

My main concern is not the pools but the hot tubs. After a long day on my feet a couple of beers and a soak in the hot tub are what my old bones need :rotfl: On second thought it might be 3 :rotfl2:

Actually, you don't have any "right" to swim whenever you want to. When you get a room at a Disney resort, you are agreeing to their terms and conditions. If you don't like the terms, then you can stay somewhere else. Easy.

How DARE disney close pools in the off chance guests like Turk want to swim later than 11pm??? Don't Disney realise that just because they own the property that they don't get to make the rules?? UGHHH the ignorance of Disney!

;)

All sarcasm aside some of my best memories at Disney are of swimming early morning at the GF main pool. When we stayed at the BWI last month the quite pools were not fenced and not posted. Theses pools have never had life guards so I'm not sure why they would be posted now. It was a bit to cool to take an early morning swim but I did see someone else doing laps early morning when I was taking a stroll. He was very quite and I don't think anyone had a problem with it.

I am a little bummed because last time we stayed at BCV I was able to swim early morning in the villas pool (I can't remember if it was big enough for laps or if I used my tether, but I did get in a nice workout). 7am is too late for me to start a swim workout on a rope drop day. Next visit, I may see if I can use my Y membership at the YMCA aquatic center which opens at 5:30.
