Are all Disney resort perks fair?

Recognizing that Disney is taking a different approach to the parks now than it did under different leadership - and even disagreeing with that different approach - does not make one incapable of just going to the park and having a great time.

I don't know about anyone else, but I discuss a lot of different things here on the DIS. And I don't think twice about any of it while I'm in the parks enjoying my vacation. I come here to discuss Disney related things more in depth because people here love Disney as much as I do and want to talk and discuss as well. The majority of my family/friends IRL don't care about Disney in that way to want to talk about it like this. They enjoy it, but it's just another amusement park to them.

I think the state of Epcot and DHS is sad. That doesn't mean I don't still enjoy my time there. Thinking Epcot could be better than it is doesn't make Soarin' or Figment, or World Showcase less enjoyable.

Maybe I'm weird like this, I don't know...but I can have criticisms about certain things and yet still love them and enjoy them too. It doesn't have to be black and white.

I've never had a bad trip to WDW in 31 years. When I am at WDW, I do not have to answer the phone at work, don't have to deal with my bosses, don't have to worry about arresting someone strung out on heroin...all is well when I am at WDW. If I have to wait for a ride, I talk to the people around me. Could WDW change up some things, sure, but all-in-all, I am taking my 3rd trip in a row with just my lovely wife and enjoying going at a relaxing pace since our kids are now 20 and 21. And it is more than worth the money that I spend.

I have things I'm critical of as well. Granted, not nearly as much as others, but they're there and I've posted about them before. But there are some people who you can take a look at their posting history and you will rarely, if ever, find them making mention of a single thing they like about Disney. One of course isn't required to like anything about WDW. I have family that I couldn't pay them to go- but then they don't spend their time on a Disney forum talking about all the things they hate about it.

99% of the time I see no "hate"...and I personally rarely use that word (I did the other day and thought long and hard about it). Usually the topics bring up legitimate areas for improvement...there's even the occasionally compliment mixed In...

There are two things that I'm adamantly opposed to:

1. The thought that Because its Disney/travel... That intelligent debate shouldn't be pursued. Critical thought is one of the most true forms of thought. Ask Plato. There is never a bad time for your brain. I'll die on that hill.

2. That we should even consider to tow the PR line. I understand that some people can't see it. But it's there. It's quite simple: I have my money and they want it. That is the fundamental truth. We are not "partners" and rarely will be on the same song of the campfire during "Kumbaya". Again - that is the price we pay - literally - and there's nothing wrong with recognizing that. It makes a better, more wise consumer which benefits everyone.

Stay at Wilderness Cabins and go to the Disney grocery store. You'll see how bad they want your money when you buy hot dog buns and such. They want your money really bad.

Not necessarily. But I think it does add something to see it. Like you I'm not a big Burton fan. But I do love the music from the film and that added another layer for me.

It's funny but my husband hadn't seen the movie and loved the attraction. He positively gushed about it...... had to go back 3 times.

And it's not just "overlaid," it's well integrated. You'll see and hear the HM bones underneath the Holiday decorations...

Some people decide to spend less money and stay off site.

Some people decide to stay on property and enjoy the advantages of staying on site.

We are paying a pretty penny to stay at Wilderness Lodge in two weeks. We could have rented an awesome condo or even stay at a luxury offsite hotel for what we paid to stay there, but we like the advantages of staying onsite. I like being able to book all of my ADRs right at 180 days of my arrival date, and I am also glad I was able to book FPs 60 days out. Actually, we had to change our trip dates, so I made my ADRs more like 160 days out rather than 180 and still got what I wanted. We choose to stay onsite because of the extra magic hours, buses, dining plan, and just the overall Disney feel.

I get why you say it isn't fair. True, we are all paying the same amount of money to enter Disney parks, but people staying on Disney property are spending way more money on Disney property than people who stay onsite. They are more likely to do all their shopping, eating, and entertaining onsite. I feel Disney has every right to offer onsite guests incentives. Disney isn't doing it to be nice, they are doing it so more people want to stay onside. Now if Disney only offered FPs to those staying onsite, I can see how that would be bad for Disney.

For those who think Disney is going down the drain- don't know what to say except I hope all the venting makes them feel better. I'm not one to worry about the "just you wait until" doomsday scenarios. Especially when I see no hard facts to indicate anything terrible is happening.

I don't worry about this stuff either. I figure if all the bad predictions do end up happening then at least I enjoyed it while it lasted! There's definitely things about disney I think could be improved, but there's too much I still love to be completely turned off by it. I'm hoping universal keeps improving and there'll be two awesome theme parks to visit in Florida.

Anyway cake, you're a very patient poster. I don't like engaging with the passive aggressive posters. Maybe people are that way so they can be rude without infractions .

I actually don't know for sure because I don't spend time going through people's posting histories, but I'd venture to say that anyone who takes time to post on a Disney board loves something about it. I like to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it's their love of Disney that brought them here in the first place.

I completely agree. Great post. Most of the complaints I've seen come from a perspective of Disney fans. I can absolutely hate FP+ and still love taking my family to WDW.

A lot of times, complaining, both in public forums and to the business itself, actually does really get things changed, and it also generates intelligent good discussion.

This. Exactly this. I love Disney. Yes, I criticize at times, but I do so because I love it and want it to be better.

I have no doubt that everyone on this board loves Disney in their own way. How they display that may be different from how I choose to - both IRL and on the boards, but I just don't believe people would spend their (in many cases precious little) free time here if they didn't love Disney.

There will never be 100% agreement among large groups of people like this - it just isn't human nature. But whether I agree or disagree with someone here, I appreciate that we are here because we share one thing - a love for the mouse that started it all.
