Are 60 point contracts possible?

If I needed 180 points per use year, and wanted to use the 3 contracts/bank-and-borrow method, I'd need three 60-point contracts.

Is it possible to get that? And if so, how would one go about it?

You can purchase a 60 point contract from DVC after you already have one master contract.

You could purchase a 60 point resale if one was available.

I believe you can. Call DVC to double check. I think I remember someone saying that you need to buy at least 100 points to start, but that seems wrong to me. You should be able to buy as many points as you want.

what about doing a 120 point contract then a 60 point contract. Would that work for you?

Ah, so I'd need to get a master contract to start - 50 point minimum resale, or whatever I could do. Then buy the three contracts, then sell the original contract. Yikes, that's starting to sound complicated. :)

Thank you for the quick replies! :goodvibes

While there are advantages of owning multiple home resorts, likely not enough to justify this approach. But if one wanted to go this route, buy a single resale in the size desired of say 50-70 points then do the others retail through DVC. Once you're an owner the min purchase of 160 goes out the window and you're treated the same as any other owner. One cannot start with 160 points but in smaller increments such as buying two 80's instead of a single 160.

Watch the 4 big DVC resale brokers for a contract 60 points or under at one of the resorts at which you would like to own and buy it. You may want watch for one which has a Use Year which jibs with your intended time of travel. Don't expect a huge bargain in terms of price, as smaller contracts tend to have slightly higher prices. On the down side if you pay an extra $2 on a 60 pt contract its an extra $120 (not a lot in light of the cost of these purchases).

Once you are a DVC Member you can purchase points directly from Disney. Minimum purchases are 25 pts. But if you wish to purchase in a sold out resort you may need to wait until Disney has points with the correct Use Year in inventory to sell to you.

You may need call the brokers and get on their email lists or call lists for a smaller contract.

You may see a 60 point contract come up on a resale site but 50 pts might be more common. If you see a 50 pt contract, you will not be able to add another 10 pts direct from Disney b/c they will only do a minimum add on of 25 points. So you could buy a resale contract that's between 25 and 35 points and do an add on to get to sixty points. But if you see a 50 point contract at a desired resort, know that you will not be able to just add 10 points.

Remember, if you are considering buying all your contracts in the resale market...Disney does not charge closing costs for add-on contracts. Closing costs can vary significantly depending on the broker ($300 plus at a min).

Be aware that contracts on the resale market may not have pts coming until next year but when you buy from Disney you will always get current year points.

Disney's minimum initial buy-in is 160 pts.

Sorry if this is a long and rambling response. I've been immersed in reading about DVC purchases for the last month but there are experts on this board who may have more insights.

Good luck on your quest.

if you're patient, you can find a 60 pt contract resale (there was one yesterday for VB on TTS. and if 50 pts every 3 years is all you need pointswise at one resort, it's even easier to find those.)

then you pick 2 other resorts and call disney to get on the waiting list to buy 2 - 60 pt contracts...with no closing costs.

sounds easy to me. the waiting is the hardest part...;)

Besides, DW and I haven't even decided whether to do the 3-contract thing. We're still exploring options. So no worries from me. I hope they're there when you're ready to buy! :goodvibes
