Are 2042 Resorts Worth it?

This is one of the things I really like at BWV. My contracts will expire when I'm 84 (hoping I don't expire first). Who knows what the liability of maintenance fees would be if I left them to my adult kids. Who knows if they'll want them.
Ditto. I thought maybe I was the only one who thought a timeshare that expires in 19 years instead of 50 years was a plus ;)

P.S. I'm convinced walking the parks extends your life (even if you stop for a snack along the way) ...

Yes, basically. :)

Nice, so you got the one in the same floor?

I’ve been watching all I can about CCV ever since I determined it’s SAP+ lol
Yes. It was room 5115 and my in-laws were in the room. They liked it a lot. Just looked it up on TouringPlans and it looks like this rooms is on floors 2 to 7 and is room X115. We were in room 5137 at the end of the hall.

I think it just depends on the family. 19 years left on the contract is a double edged sword.

If you’re in your late 50s-60s it’s probably a good thing to know that your kids won’t inherit the dues and if they do it won’t be for very long.

On the other hand if you’re a younger family 19 years won’t be something you’ll be able to pass down to the next generation and if your kids haven’t been born yet then you likely won’t be able to offer it to them for their honeymoon or take your future grandkids with it.

I considered the 2042 resorts as a second contract for all the reasons you outline.

What has for now moved me off is that I am not sure I would have to stay at any of them more than on some type of rotation where if I can book them in August periodically that would be fine.

Since I have an SSR contract now but need more points I may just get a second SSR contract. I will be 96 when the contract expires and my daughter who is on the deed will be 66. Having one expiration date might just be easier for her since she likes owning but has not really paid any attention to the process of how all of this works. Both my wife and daughter are leaving all that to me.

Luckily, I have time to decide since we are holding off until POLY2 details are released.

I think we would decide between in order-

POLY2 same association (unless the point chart scares me away)
BLT/SSR We will have booked several trips by then and have experience which resorts have availability. Does BLT provide or need the home resort advantage for our travel period.
Boardwalk
POLY2 new association

One thought on the 2042 expiration is you can always purchase another contract with a 12–20-year term in 2042 if you need or want to continue owning.

BLT studio standard and 1 bedroom standard need priority for sure. After that there is some availability at 5 months still but is limited quick. I would say on the loop it's harder compared to Poly and maybe equivalent to grand in my experience.

We do the 1 bedroom at BLT and so far, the 1-bedroom Lake View appears available in August at 7 months. I checked for the 1-bedroom standard at 11 months, and it seemed like most times it was not available. If that is the case the home resort advantage would not mean much.

I never went with adding "just" Sleep Around Points theory unless you have a zillion points to book any (high point, less fought over) room option at a given time. I want points for that 8-11 month advantage at hard to get resorts unless the monthly fees there seem high. I then have added that benefit, but could still use the "new" points for SAP. While I like Saratoga, Animal Kingdom and Poly, for example, unless I'm after the cheapest studios at AKL Jambo, all of those still seem to have decent availability at 7 months so getting points there seemed less beneficial?

That's because at 11 months we are up booking that standard right on the nose or people walk points. It frees up some for a few days at a time after the weeks move forward. Also currently there is rumored rooms blocked off at BLT for refurbs and that Sept point chart is cheap too. I have had to book standard rooms between 9-11 months in advance and as you get to 7 months it's tight.

Points that were cheap, low dues and good contract length work well. Usually at 7 months there are good options but cheap desirable park near resorts need that 11 month window. So if you save on SAP just buy extra so you can afford the "overpriced" views when it comes time to book at 7 months. This is still mostly the issue with studios only.

Honestly at times I kind of wish my AKV points had a more desirable home resort priority but at the same time I have used it to get me into club level a couple times now which I otherwise would be unable to do without owning there. I love the resort during the holidays especially Jambo house which in general is harder to get into than Kidani. But I definitely understand not wanting to give up the value of home resort priority. It's why I couldn't get myself to purchase SSR even though it's the most economic DVC purchase. I have an AUL sub for sleep around points but I also value it's home resort priority to get the hotel room and also non-ocean view rooms for less points.

Although, the 11 month advantage is not just being able to book at 8-11 months, but that you can Waitlist before non-Home people too. A lot of folks book their home resort at 11 months for an important trip, then switch to somewhere different at 7 months if it's open, so at 7 months your Waitlist comes thru because you had it booked Very early.

I don’t want to work that hard to get the standard room. No problem getting on at 8 at exactly 11 months but nothing more than that.

Plus my wife would rather stay in a Lake View room.

I will be seeing what options I have innJanuary for our August trip.

This will be the third time I will have been able to see the options I have at 7 months.

The first 2 times the options were fine.

We currently have 180 SSR points. Our second contract we will add 160-200 points.

That will be enough for a 9 day trip at either BLT 1 bedroom or a 5/4 split stay at a 1 bedroom/2 bedroom split.

If we base it on BLT as a constant we would need 180 for a 5 day stay Lake View or 340 for a 9 day stay Lake View.

It looks like availability fairly good for lake view rooms at 7 months if that is what you are going for.

I have been looking at standard view availability at 11 months and it seems really difficult to pick up a block of more than a couple of days. This rooms are constantly being walked… which makes you question whether it is actually worth having the home resort priority here!

Or perhaps it’s just the time of year.

I recently bought a resale contract. I kept thinking I needed to figure the exact resort to buy, but had 3-4 as possible. But when I looked, I realized price and use year were very important and so I ended up buying what had the best mix of resort, price, number of points and use year. When I found the ones with the last 3 that were best, it came down to the 2 to offer a bid on and not 4

Its likely just because the 11 month window is in September currently. Usually tower studios aren’t walked at RIV but they definitely are right now. Probably by the people who have a smaller amount of points and this is one of the times they can extend their trips out as much as possible.

Is it not possible to surrender a contract as a last resort to Disney if you really don't want it?

Well, if you stop paying the dues then you will be locked out of using your contract.

But, no, DVD does not buy back contracts from owners on a regular basis.

There have been times when owners have been able to do that but at a lot lower than just selling resale.

The easiest thing to do with DVC, if one wants out and doesn’t owe in the contract, is just list well below market value. Someone will chance getting through ROFR.

Worst case, DVD gets it that way.
