There are a multitude of loungers with large umbrellas available on a first come, first served basis. Get there early, secure your spot under one of those wonderful umbrellas, and there is no need to bring your own :

You can take small snacks, like a sandwich ziploc bag. But last week, I saw them confiscate 2 full size bags of Doritos. I guess the family must not have driven, because they would have taken the snacks back out to their car. There are so many quiet little shade spots, no need for your own umbrella.
