AP's, rack rate, and DDP?

Can I combine all these?

We're taking a group of 15 in December and there weren't DVC accommodations for everyone at VWL, therefore DH and I booked ourself a room at rack rate on the hotel side.

Everyone else wants to do the DDP. Can we? Everything I find says you have to have booked a package and my family are AP holders.

I'm relatively sure that AP holders can book a ticketless package at rack rate as well (this was just brought up on another thread). They would have to follow the "rules" of a package though regarding deposits and payment due dates though.

They cannot book a different discount however to receive this ticketless package, it's AP rate or rack as far as I know.

Hmm....what if I already booked it. I didn't know I had to to it separately. Can they convert it?

Also, what's the reasoning behind this? I mean, Disney's got my $1200 for AP's, they're going to get $1700 for rack rate at WL, why wouldn't they want another $700 for DDP?

I don't know what you mean by "separately". Or even what your question is about the reasoning? The reasoning behind what?

It's not separate, it's a package. DDP is only sold with packages. For a regular guest, that means tickets + room (plus dining, but dining is not what makes it a package). For an AP holder, it means room at rack or AP rate + AP (plus dining).

Packages are only sold by Walt Disney Travel Company. Room-only reservations are not handled by them, but a separate part of Disney.

I'm confused by your situation though - you said you booked a rack rate room for you and your husband, but "everyone else" wants the DDP. Where are these others staying? I'm so confused! :goodvibes

We never need a package. I'm a DVC member and therefore, can buy park tix and DDP a'la carte without one.

The other 12 members of our party are staying in two villas on our points; we can add DDP for them. There was not availibility for all of us so someone has to stay on the hotel side or stay at another site (which we didn't want to do).

I just don't understand the reasoning of Disney turning someone away from the DDP when they have an onsite rack rate reservation AND AP's. It's like they don't want my money and we know THAT'S not true!

But you're wrong. If you have an AP and a rack rate reservation, you CAN buy the DDP. It says that higher up in the thread (Cafeen's post I think). That's why I didn't understand your comment.

They won't turn someone in your situation away from the DDP. They'll just insist that the reservation be booked as a ticketless AP package which is subject to the terms and conditions of package (45 day full payment/cancellation policy and $200 deposit vs payment on arrival, 5 day cancellation policy and 1 night deposit).
