APs and Resort guests can now upgrade their magicband

Finally spoke to a CM, she stated that a small quantity of bands were restocked this morning and sold out again at 10:03am. She said to "just keep checking back for restocks every week." Yes.. I check every day 🙃

Same thing for us. Our bands are in transit and due to arrive Friday, but the charge disappeared from my CC. A strange way of doing things!

I still haven't been charged. Ordered last Monday, received the bands on Friday. Nothing at all on my credit card since the pending charge dropped off mid last week.

I ordered 4 and got 3 correct. There was a pending charge on my cc for them, and it disappeared at some point and a final charge hasn't shown up as of now. This AM I called and got a replacement sent for the 4th band that was sent incorrect, and I see now a new pending charge of $10.60 on my cc. I need to watch and make sure the initial charge never reappears as the original $40 + tax, since I only got 3 of those and paid when I reordered the 4th. Who knows, at this point I could be charged for 1, 4, or 5 upgraded bands based on if anything is put back on my cc.

I'm completely aggravated that we have 9 days to order our bands, yet Disney put ZERO restrictions on how far out your trip needs to be to order and ship bands. They need to make this like fast pass or ADRs, your window to order opens 1 month before your trip. Yes, I am feeling cranky because I've been trying to order all morning and getting error messages and DH just sat on hold forever to be told by the CM they are out of stock again. >:(

Has anyone ordered solid color bands and had them say they are shipping to your resort? This just happened to my cousin. Her trip isn’t until the end of July. How does she get it sent to her house.

This whole release has been handled so poorly. I agree about ordering the magic bands within a window for your arrival date. I know historically you could assign a "free" band month and months out. I would think to keep inventory levels in check, purchasing an "upgraded" band should be within a certain window for an arrival date. Honestly, and this is just my opinion, if my stay was many months out I would want to wait. Disney releases newer styles often. There may be one I like better. As Disney releases newer ones I am pretty sure they would show on MDE as upgrades. It sounds like when you are selecting "upgraded" bands they are charging and shipping them immediately even if a reservation is many, many months away. Either way, this has not been handled good.

Disney has been selling things online for a long time, you'd think they'd have better inventory control, even if to just pop up a message when you click on an item and say it's out of stock. They do it on Shop Disney. You can see when sizes, etc. are sold out. This experience today, they just tell you "something went wrong" and call Guest relations. I am sure that call center was really ticked off at IT this morning. I work in IT and if we had a rollout that sent 100s of livid, confused or upset customers to a call center, there would be a heap of trouble on the IT team.

Our custom magic bands are being delivered today. I will have to wait to see what we actually got after I get off work and open them. I'm hopeful that they are correct as the correct pictures are showing under our MDE active magicbands. I'm supposed to have the disney snacks one, and my husband the Toy Story. I'll post later on what we got! Oh, and still no charge as of today has showed back up on my credit card after it dropped off.

We only needed 2 MB. So I was able to upgrade quickly last Monday and get in and out before all the madness. I did know exactly what I wanted and had a backup for each ready too. I received a confirmation email, but not shipping email. Ours arrived today and both are correct. We had a pending charge that is still there. But no actual charge has gone through.

I do feel for those who are leaving soon and are having a difficult time ordering an upgrade. We aren’t going till October 5 and have ours already. I am not sure if having dates for order windows would be completely fair either. It would all depend on whether they plan to restock all styles frequently. If this was just a kind of test or a way to just dump some bands, then I think everyone should have the same shot to order. But if they plan to actually have all/most styles available in the near future, then windows might work. Since I had no way of knowing whether I could update closer to my trip, I made sure to get on early and take care of it now.

I *thought* that this was going to be the new option for MBs, and would continue to be so for the foreseeable future. it wasn't just a one time fire sale meant to be first come first served on the stock they had. So if that is the case, they should do it the way it always has been and have people with trips in the next 30 days (or whatever time frame they decide on) order. I assume there would be some change in stock, so it would be possible that they would quit making a band someone really wanted, but they also would add bands and someone else might be annoyed they had already picked when their favorite just became available. That is bound to happen, unless they were just going to come out with a large number of bands they would always keep in stock for this program. However, since a lot of the bands you can upgrade to are also available on shopdisney, I don't think they intend to make bands just for this program and there will be some changes as time goes on on which bands you can get. They just didn't roll this out in an appropriate way, which is par for the course for a Disney rollout. A child could have thought of many of the problems they were going to run into, let alone someone with experience in IT, customer service, the internet, or any type of online sales!

same here. my window closes in 10 days. when i saw they were up again today i texted my wife immediately and she helped pick out hers and for the kids. by the time they decided and i went in to select them, they were all gone again. but yet people with trips in November/December were able to order them. I was furious.

I do agree that Disney should have done a much better job of rolling this out. Having an order window is a great idea as long as this is definitely an ongoing feature with plenty of availability. But I know Disney, and knew I should get in there asap if I wanted specific bands. Disney tends to be a company that rewards the early bird. I know people like my DH hate that. If I let him choose his band, he would still be thinking it over. Days before they began sales, I just said, “Do you want a Darth Vader band?” He says “Yes.” And I buy it. :darth:

I don't fault anyone with a trip far out for buying, I'm just annoyed with Disney for the way they did this and for letting anyone with a trip buy when some people who had trips in a few weeks weren't able to. It wasn't always the early bird gets the worm, either, for some people it was just error after error until they went OOS. In following lots of threads its amazing how many different problems different people had, and then there are the people who popped in once mid morning and breezed through an order they got already.

I do actually disagree that they had to let everyone order, there are plenty of things that Disney does that are limited time, and if your trip doesn't happen to be in a specific time frame you just don't get to partake. Had they done this short term and then thrown in the towel, but kept up the normal ordering time frame, people who didn't happen to have a trip in the right window just wouldn't have been able to upgrade their bands. There's no reason that would have been a problem, and I have missed out on plenty of things based on when my trips were scheduled. This would have been the same thing. Who knows, maybe they would have come out with something better for those people with much later trips that had missed this short term debacle.

While I am obviously stoked to already have ours in time to use them for a trip next week, I do not understand for the life of me why this whole thing didn't work the same way picking solid colored bands always did. Pick what you want and it ships out 3 weeks prior to arrival. If anything, going ahead and picking for future trips would give them production estimates so they would know, okay we need X number of snack bands to meet our October orders. There really is no reason for them to have immediately shipped out every order that was placed regardless of arrival date. It's just hard to believe nobody thought of that before it was rolled out.

Now this I totally agree with. As a matter of fact, I thought that was what was happening. My confirmation email said the bands would arrive approximately 10 days prior to our trip. So I was surprised when people who had even later trips than mine were getting them. And when I checked our mail today, low and behold ours arrived early too. The only reason I can think that Disney did this was because they want their money now. And normally Disney only puts a hold on your card till the item is mailed. Then they complete the charge. So until they mailed them out they would have all these pending charges. Or maybe they were afraid that the bands wouldn’t be available after you already ordered and paid for them. Who knows. If this offer is going to be continually offered, they might need to work on a better process.

Just got this email:

I am in the same boat, the pending charge dropped off my CC, a posted charge never occurred, and my bands shipped a few days ago. FWIW I never even got a shipping email, the only reason I knew they were coming tomorrow is because my husband signed up for some USPS app that shows you what type of mail you're getting and he said "something from Disney is coming". When I check MDE I had a tracking number. I know this is insanely foolish, but maybe Disney isn't charging because they feel bad for how much they screwed up this rollout. Or else it's an IT problem with the new system not completing the charges. Either way, I hope I get my bands for free after spending an hour plus on hold to be able to select my husband's band when the other 4 worked fine.

I just got that one as well! It’s the first thing I’ve seen since the confirmation email the first day they were available. I’d pretty much given up since there was no shipping notice and they weren’t showing in MDE, but now hope inexorably creeps back in...

I’ve also noticed the whole pending and disappearing charge on my account. I checked my bands and it’s showing up as the one I chose but DH is now back to the purple plain one. We have an email that states we ordered him the Darth Vadar one so hoping that it will be sorted out. As we are in the UK we don’t get them shipped to us.
Seems Disney massively underestimated the level of popularity (I find it crazy).
They would have been better to do it on a voucher basis so you could pay the $10 then select from store once you get there.
