Looking for suggestions for a 8/9 day April vacation ideas. Traveling from MA during spring break with kids ages 8, 12, and 13. I asked this question last year and planned a great trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon based on people's suggestions. Not somewhere that I would've thought would be great in April but it was awesome. We have been to Mexico several times, Costa Rica, all over FL, Hilton Head, NYC, Washington DC and Nashville. We all have passports.

Any ideas? Would like to keep the budget around 5k. Thanks!

The Canadian dollar is getting destroyed right now, so while the weather might be awful, a trip to some parts of Canada could be a very nice vacation, especially now that your kids are old enough to enjoy it:)...Montreal is supposed to be best to visit March-May and Sept-Nov to avoid the ridiculous crowds:)...

I second Canada. You could drive to Niagara Falls, ON and visit Toronto which is about 90 minutes away. We have a trip planned in June. Because the Canadian dollar is so weak right now, there are KILLER deals to be had. You would come in way under your 5k budget and have a great time.

If you're feeling adventurous, maybe Iceland? Kayak shows round trip from BOS in April for sub-$500. It has been high on my list for awhile, and April could be nice with less crowds and lower cost than high tourist season. Rent a car and see the sights along the Golden Circle. Probably not the entire ring road.

My favorite family vacation destination after WDW is Atlantis(Bahamas). Staying at Comfort Suites adjacent to Atlantis was SUCH a money saver and we enjoyed it very much. I think though, going that many days for hotel, flights, transportation, food and additional activities (water park/aquarium is included with your stay) it would put you closer to $6,000. If the Comfort Suites had a room that slept 5 you would be well under that budget.

You could try renting a Harborside Resort room through VRBO or the like. Full access to Atlantis and full kitchen to save on costs a little bit. I've seen them for around $300 a night but might be limited availability.

Rent a villa in the Virgin Islands?
All Inclusive in the Dominican Republic?
Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg TN?
San Diego?

We are in MA too.. We rented a townhouse in Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head. Can't wait!

Have you ever been to Colonial Williamsburg? I always loved going as a kid. It should be pretty nice in April, maybe 60s or 70s. You could also add on Busch Gardens and Jamestowne too since your trip is 8 days.

People will probably think I'm crazy for suggesting this as a family vacation but....have you considered New Orleans? They have a wonderful zoo, aquarium, one of the best children's museums in the country, and let's not forget about the AMAZING food! Also, the many historical tours, bike tours of the French Quarter, impromptu parades, live outdoor music everywhere - it's awesome. Just avoid Bourbon Street if you don't want your kids exposed to the crazier side of life.
