April "Fool"ing around with the Goofs

36 chilly miles on the bike in 2 hours.

But it was sunny out!

Warmer than I like - it's nearly 50, and sunny. Sounds ideal, but I am a cold-weather runner, so my ideal conditions about about 40 degrees, and cloudy. I managed a 9.5 mile run, in just under 70 minutes. Tried to keep it fairly easy, since the Illinois marathon is only a week away.

Hi Goofs!

the boards have been so slow that its driving me crazy!!! It takes too long to post.

I ran 12 miles yesterday. My partner and I found the perfect hilly route to train on for the Country Music Marathon - the hills are nice and rolling like CMM.

Lisa - check the website, they have changed the shirts for the race and you may need a different size shirt. taxes and stress about travels! yuck.

Mike - how is the knee nowadays?

As for me, I have had alligator, snake, snails, and even squirrel and rabbit. It all tastes like chicken. Except the rabbit was pretty greasy so it was more like duck than chicken.

WORD!

Just did 90 minutes on it run walking in side, probably got a total of 5 miles, which I am donating to SHAN, so go input the time on the spreadsheet Shan. Time for iced knee and coffee!

Yep, had them all. The snails just tasted like garlic, but were squishy; also goose, deer, quail, pheasant, boar, dove, bear, moose, beaver (Now THAT was a little odd, but if you put the fat from the tail across the meat while its cooking...yummy!), duck, wild turkey. I drew the line at coyote and dog. Coyote because they are mangy nasty animals, and dog, well....I just couldn't bring myself to eat my best friend.

Sunday greetings, all! We had a power loss here today, which seems strange since there is no weird weather going on....yet! We are supposed to get snow tonight/tomorrow!

Today I volunteered at the Martian Marathon, although not exactly where I was expecting. Did get to see WISH'ers Carrie (wtpclc) and DH along with Margie (funwalker) before the race at the expo.

Gotta go grocery shopping and have a swim on tap.

Well, I finally got a much needed 12 hours of sleep Friday night. I unfortunately woke up with a rather painful condition that is going to make running nearly impossible for the next several days.

I did some yoga last night along with 14 sloooooow miles on the exercise bike. At least I felt like I got something done. We are about to leave to do a 2-mile walk on the trail near our house while pushing DD in the jogger. I should be fine if I take it easy.

I had to miss a run yesterday. It was odd in that it wasn't a distance race but rather a 1 hour run held by the running club each year. It's pretty simple in that it is how many miles you can do around the track in an hour.

It sounded pretty boring and I didn't really want to do it anyway but it counts in the club's ranking. I'm currently first in my age group simply because I've run the most races this year. In all of my first place finishes, I've been the only one in my AG! There are two other guys who, if they show up to enough races, will leap right ahead in the standings as they dominated me the one time I've raced each.

Oh yeah, and my arch-nemesis was there. I read online he ran 4 miles in that hour (he ran with his two young kids) so I could have beat him. Yeah, it wouldn't have felt as good since he wasn't going full speed. Oh, well. We shall meet again soon, and I will defeat him...if it's THE LAST THING I DO! Bwahaaaaahaaaa!

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

The mixer starts here...

Variety is the spice of life, so they say. (But don't ask me who they are, although I suspect they work for McCormick. :confused3) With that in mind, this week's mixer question is:

What types of XT do you like to do, and why? What are your old favorites and new discoveries? What kind of XT would you like to try?

Anecdotes and pictures are welcomed. I think we'd really like to hear about the benefits of your XT--physical, mental, social. Does it create a stronger core or more flexibility? Does it help you de-stress? Is it something you enjoy with your kids, partner, friends? It might also be helpful to know how you work XT within your walking/running schedule.

Extra points for XT activities that are unusual or have funny names or rituals. As determined by popular vote. And in case you're wondering, those points have no monetary value whatsoever. (I'll make up other disclaimers as I think of them.)

SNOW on the ground:headache:

If summer ever comes to Chicago...and its on the weekend...I think we should have a picnic.

GAH, I'm SICK of being cold. :(

K, got that off my chest.

I did buy my 5 year old his first brand new bike from LBS...he was very excited, but then of course it started snowing....

45 min swim on tap today, 2500 yards.

Have a goofy day, and stay warm...

------------------EDIT------------------------

Just couldn't bring myself to get into the pool. drove to the Y, sat in the parking lot, and then went to breakfast.

now I feel like a loser AND I still have to swim today.

Mike We have several inches of very wet, slushy snow as well. I can't find my snow brush, so brush it off with my hand, it is!

Did my swim this am. As usual, lost track of laps and time. I think around 1100. I won't mention the time because it will cause hysterical fits of laughter and we don't want the Goofs to get any Goofier!

So now have to call the insurance/hospital again about my PT claim as well as call the appliance repair people--once I find one--about my oven. Turns out our power outage fried the control board to the tune of $300+ just for the part!

Happy Monday,

Maura

Maura:

try this site:

http://applianceguru.com

I have saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars by posting on this site and getting feeback/advice from the pros...it costs $5.00 (ONE time fee) and you are connected to lots of appliance repair folks who REALLY know their stuff.

My oven periodically turns off...unplugging and replugging it in fixes it...did you try that?

Good morning Goofs!

Kinda quiet here. Sorry about all the snow for the northerners. Did someone forget to look at the calendar? Its April!! We have a cold front coming in today, dropping our temps about 20 degrees for the next couple of days but no snow so I'm not complaining!

Did my 5K on Saturday and then went out for our anniversary dinner on Saturday night to a Japanese steakhouse where they cook at the table. It was awesome. I am loading a couple of pictures into photobucket to post.

Have a great day everyone!!!!

Mike Thanks. I have used that site before (maybe you mentioned it last time when my washer went on the fritz). Unfortunately, at this point, it seems I'm stuck. I did try shutting off power and turning it back on. Didn't work--may try one more time before calling for help. Plus, it's a built-in oven, so a little more trouble to fix.

SNOW on the ground:headache:

If summer ever comes to Chicago...and its on the weekend...I think we should have a picnic.

Mike - call me and we'll meet for that picnic and a nice ride. We lost power for 2+ hrs during the heavy snow as well. Just a perfect topper to the snow.

I've had quite a bit of game/exotic meats but just could not get around the squirrel pot pie thing.

Was in NY this weekend so no workouts. Will get something in tonight (no idea what though) and have the IL marathon this weekend (doing the half).

Cecilia - ok, thought is was just me and the site speed last week. And they changed shirts for CMM? Better go look.

Have a great day team!

Ok if my kids are out on SPRING break then it should be at least warm enough for them to play outside right???? This is looking to be a very long week if things don't get better soon.

Off to book a caribbean cruise for next spring break........

Cecilia Spring break here, too. 3-6 inches of wet slushy stuff! My son is a confirmed indoor guy--hang with buddies, play music, play video games. If it weren't for the fact that he is on the track/XC team, I would kick his butt harder!

Suzanne You are a racing queen! Hope your race went well, and the dinner soudned yummy!

I think this weather is making April fools of us all! It's 43 degrees right now, but the wind chill makes it feel like 36 -- pretty cold temps for watching DS's baseball game!

I logged a good 2.06 miles on Friday in 20 minutes. (Kick butt pace for me!) Tonight, I ran on the same half-mile track but with the wind working against me. I went 1.89 miles in the exact same 20-minute period. Oh well. Here's hoping for some better weather for all of us!

I stopped feeling sorry for myself at home, went to the Y and got in the pool...felt sorry for myself for 2500 yards in 45 minutes.

bed now, up at 0420.

C U in the morning goofs!

Mike

Hello Goofs!

I got 220 miles in 4 hours!!! LOL! I went to Baltimore for opening day and came back all in the same day. I didn't actually get any miles in but I did walk from my friend's place to Camden Yards and back.

45 minutes, 3.5 miles...but my right knee barely hurt :woohoo:

But my left knee does, probably from compensating :headache:

Lol, what a day!

Mike

Morning everyone! Sorry I got lost for a few days. I ended up with a horrendous cold while in MA over the weekend. I got in 14.43 miles while coughing and snotting on Sunday and 10 more yesterday after I got rid of the screaming headache that I had. I still don't feel great but at least I got those miles done!!!

I hope everyone is well. I will read back here in a few. I am getting a new computer from the hospital shortly so you probably won't hear back again until Thursday. Wow, what a messed up week for me!!!

Take care everyone and keep up the great work!!! :goodvibes
