April 8, 2006 Western Magic Cruise

Vavasmon - I'd be interested to hear about RCCL too! We love DCL but for the premium price we are tired of the exact same evening entertainment each time! This will be the fourth time to hear Rich Pupura and Michael Harrison! We are starting to know their routines line by line!

Judy - I know what you mean about the boards. So much negativity lately! I am however on the waitlist with a TA for a possible Med cruise on DCL in the summer of 2007. I think most of the discussion of this was within our group from the August repo cruise. Many of us really enjoyed having 14 days on the ship and wanted to do it again! OK - give us the scoop on Expedition Everest! We saw the construction stages in Nov. It looked awesome!

Lori - Tell the coaches that you are the mom and that your time is the MOST important! Geesh! These coaches think life revolves around their activity!

Have a great day!

Hi everyone

Thanks UM. Sometimes you wonder who's time is the most important. I can't wait until vacation. No practices, no school, no backpacks allowed on the ship. Family time gallore.

It is 50 degrees out today. This is unheard of in upstate NY. We normally have subzero temps and tons of snow. My entire yard is green. So much for winter fest coming up in a week or two.

having my taxes done tomorrow. I hope we do OK.

Have a great night.

Lori

Hi. You see my big complaint about this waitlist thing is that it is unfair to everyone who isn't speculating. They really should not do that and wait until it is officially announced. If everyone is already on the waitlist then why wait to announce it? Why would DCL want to be unfair about the possibility of obtaining cabins. It is kind of like having to line up for a ride before you even know if there is a ride and then you are going to stand there and wait not knowing what you are waiting on. And then you find out that there is a standby entrance where thousands of people are walking right on to the ride and they have known about the ride for months. So now you have been standing there for months and you still do not get on. No chance.

Hello everyone!

Hi Judy - I agree! I do not have a fax into DCL, just a request with a travel agent (I guess I said it wrong in my post). I'm not sure how DCL is going to handle the people who are waitlisted for categories other than suites. I do think that faxing DCL will cause the prices to increase for everyone. They know they have a "hot" commodity. For the repo cruise, the prices went out of sight the first day because people had multiple TAs making ressies for them as well as making them on their own. Inventory was sold out almost immediately. I had to pay a significantly higher price because my TA did not get my ressie in until 6PM that evening - on the first day! I had my request in a month or so ahead of the announcement but they could only make one ressie at a time! I think this type of thing drove people to try to get a jump on things. I don't agree with it either, but can understand where people are coming from. I think DCL is really learning as they go along. They had no idea that people would sleep in the hallways overnight to buy pins on the first repo cruise - what a mess that was! Just my two cents.

Lori - we are warmer here too! Good luck with your taxes.

Have a great day!

Hi All,

I'm jumping on the boredom bandwagon. I use to read the boards at least once or twice a day. These days, I check in to see what's going on with you guys and move on to something else. :surfweb:

We let our travel agent know we were interested in Europe if they go there. However, it may be cheaper to go to Hawaii and spend the extra money on more time or excursions. DH wants me to make a reservation on DCL and then decide if we're going to go.

Judy, can't wait to hear about Everest. DD & I LOVE Rockin' Roller Coaster. We're not crazy about Animal Kingdom, but would be willing to check out the coaster the next time we go.

Polly, SIL & BIL traveling with us this time are from Marcy, NY. There lived in Baldwinsville about 15 yrs ago. Ditto to the warm weather. DS allergies are already starting to kick in. OH Brother! :sad2:

Taxes went well, not as good as last year but OK. Forgot about all those online purchases we made and didn't pay taxes. Our accountant said it will catch up with you if you don't declare it. We had to give a rough estimate.

DS had a wrestling meet tonight. He did great. Pinned one guy and lost to one with points. Scarry though, during the second match he had an asthma attack and had to stop to take his inhaler. The gym was hot and smelled of chlorine. the pool was across the hall. He's doing good now, just hungry.

Pocono- We don't live too far from B'ville. Ds in wrestling them on friday.
Not sure where Marcy is. But we do love this "not" subzero weather.

Wish I could think of the repo cruise, but this is it for us for now. DD15 will be looking at colleges next year and then vacations will be different.

Have a good ground hog day (as my dd7 keeps telling us)

Just wanted to stop in and say hi. I was sick all weekend but Dd and DH had a lot of fun skiing. The weather has been very interesting this year. Hard to believe we had an ice/snow day in early Dec but 60 plus in Jan. I am fearing Feb when the DC area can have its worst ice/snow.

I also agree about the tone of the boards. I was considering posting on the RCCL/Freedom thread but that one has turned into an attack. So many threads about the same topics.

UMTerp -Congrats on your very sucessful fundraiser. Our "Fun Fair" is the last weekend in March - I have offered to help run a booth but not coordinate - my fear is no one seems willing to coordinate this year and I am often drafted. Concerning FOS - I booked a Jr. Suite for April 1 -8 2007 for $5700 for the 3 of us. The Jr is the same size as a cat 6 but has a larger balcony. DH wants to think about moving up to the "Grand" Suite - the cost of doing that is approx. the same as the cat 6 on DCL that week. I know that on RCCL we will pay for soda (I am the only big soda drinker in the family), the kids clubs have more limited hours (DD didn't spend tons of time there in Dec), and there will be some "unDisney" entertainment. Having a Casino onboard is not offensive to me (but we do not gamble). Having seen some VERY drunk people and wild teens on DCL in Dec I don't think any one crusie line has the market cornered on that one. We are looking forward to the larger range of activites (the ship's water park area, ice rink, mini-golf) and seeing different shows. PM me if you want more info.

I am waiting to hear from Nativeway about having enough people for the tour I want - just keeping my fingers crossed. Is the magic stopping in Cozumel this week? I noticed the DCL website no longer has a link about western intinary changes

Judy - any info on Everest - the coaster lover in me is counting down the days until parks around here open (late March/Early April) an EE looked so cool from the distance in Dec.

Good Morning,

Another overcast, but somewhat warm day here in the Poconos. My Bradford Pear trees are starting to bud and my some kind of lillies are starting to peak up through the soil.

:woohoo: :woohoo: to Polly's son and Um for their respective successes. What kind of fund raiser did you have to raise that kind of money? How many people were involved? Our youth group has not found a good fund raiser for them. We've done all kinds of sales, dinners and pledge events.

Vavasmom, glad you're back. :grouphug:

Have you guys seen the thread with the repo dates for the Magic going to Europe? The repo to Europe is May 12 and is 14 days. The repo coming home gets into PC on Sept 1. DCL is going to alternate 10/11 day cruises. Sounds expensive, but we'll see. MY sister will be celebrating a significant birthday and our 20th anniversary is in 2007. OH the choices?

Have a great day.

Good morning everyone!

Poly - congrats to you DS!

Vavasmon - Thanks! Best of luck with your Fun Fair too! Hope you are feeling better! I know what you mean about getting drafted. The yard sale seems to be my thing now!

Pocono - Thanks! We had a massive yard sale. I'll send you an e-mail with all of the details! Hope your DS's allergies are improving. I think I am starting to experience spring allergies also! No fun!

Judy - I hope I didn't hurt your feelings about the med cruise! I do understand how you feel!

Here's hoping that Cozumel is in good shape! Anyone heard any reports yet?

We are looking at August 8, 2007 for a 10-day med cruise. Don't want to do either of the repo cruises as I think the seas would be too rough.

Have a great day!

Ok, who's having a party tomorrow? Not us! We've tried on two separate occasions and each time we had a MAJOR snow storm. :confused3 I'm not sure who my guys are cheering for, but Kate and I want the Steelers to win. GO PITTSBURGH!

I wonder if DCL shows the Super Bowl on the Jumbotron?

As you guys all know, January was a horrible health month for our family and the end of the month was no disappointment. On Monday, we got a call from the school to pick up Kate. She fell in gym and injured her knee. She's been on crutches since Monday. The nurse in the ER recognized us. It was our third visit in 3 weeks. The PA in our doctor's thinks we should have a punch card so that we get every tenth visit free. :rotfl2: We so need this trip!

Have a great weekend!

Pocono

Hello everyone!

Pocono - so sorry to hear about your frequent visits! That has to stop NOW!

No, we aren't having a party. Probably won't even watch the game. We are not big football fans. We are usually running to some kid activity during the weekend games anyway!

DD7 is going to her first sleepover party tonight! I'm a little nervous about it. She's stayed with family overnight so I think she will be OK.

Saw the last cruise didn't make it to Cozumel after all. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Enjoy your weekend!

UMTerp

Hi everyone

pocono I hope DD is OK. Poor thing. We feel the same way about the ER with our DS. Sometimes he even gets the same room. :rotfl2:

We aren't having a party. The rule is that we can only have a party if the Dolphins make it into the Superbowl. Everyone in the family are huge fans. Doesn't matter who wins. DS wants the seahawks to win because he's a dolphin fan.(????) :confused3

UM, I know what you mean about being nervous with sleepovers. Our dd7 still hasn't been on one except for family, and we just forbid older kids to have group sleepovers because of all the garbage that happens at them. I'm sure she'll do great. And if she's really apprehensive, just tell her to call you and you can pick her up, no matter what. We did that with our oldest and ended up picking her up at 1am.

We are hosting our first cheer competition tomorrow. Hope it goes well. I get to help with score sheets. Should be fun. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Now off to the dining room for my dd15's science project. We have to construct a 3D model of DNA. So much fun.

Lori

Happy Superbowl Sunday!

DD did great at her sleepover! Although, I think the mom must be insane! 14 8-9 year old girls at this party! She slept in the basement with the kids! Ground-in popcorn all over the floor!

Poly - I'm not familiar with everything that goes on at older sleepovers. What age should they stop? No experience here! Hope your cheer competition went well! That must be fun! A model of DNA! Wow - that's a fun one!

Talk to you all soon!

Older sleepovers can be trouble. At one my daughter and her friends were in the backyard singing and swinging. Sneaking out happens all the time. They call people late in the night, no sleep at all, just how much mischief can she get into. We allowed them until age 14, but after hearing about my poor neighbors dd who was 12 I think I should have stopped earlier. She was the pawn. Needless to say it caused trouble for this girls in school for months. She was accused of doing things that she didn't do by the girls and the mom of the sleepover girl. Use your imagination. When kids get older they think they are invincible. My dd is a real good girl, but faced with peer pressure, she even has caved. It's just better for them not to be in such a situation. You've got time.

The cheer competition went well. DD sang the national anthem with a friend. They did such a good job. Overall all her performances went well. She was happy.

Now for superbowl time!!

Good morning everyone!

Poly - thanks for the info!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Just wanted to say hi - we were falling way down. I recevied an e-mail from Sharon at Native Way today. They have enough people for the tour I wanted so I need to get her my credit card info to confirm. I am so happy.

Anyone guessing if we go to Cozumel or not?

The last 2 weeks have been very busy - had to have some painful dental work done but all will be complete the week before we sail.

Hi, just checking in. Looks like it's been kind of quiet lately.

Vavasmon - Hope your pain goes away soon! Good luck with your dental work.

We are expecting "significant" snow here tomorrow. We will see.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Everybody,

For some reason I was knocked out of the dis and it wouldn't let me log in. I finally reset my password :badpc:

Um, We're going to catch the western side of that storm. I'm hearing that we should be getting somewhere around half a foot. Good luck with the shoveling. We'll be thinking about how quick our trip is coming up.

Va, glad to hear the dental work will be done before the cruise. I hate having dental work done. I love my dentist, but not what he has to do.

Judy, what's up? How's the weather in Fla? Winter has finally returned to the northeast.

Have a great weekend.

Hey Polly,

How much snow are going to get in the snow belt? Just think Bahama Mamas and steel drums! pirate:
