April 6, 2008 - 4-night Spring Break Cruise - Anyone else going?

We are going to book Palo and the Spa for Wednesday (Castaway Cay Day). We are also planning on doing the Animal Park Excursion as the kids would like it.

As for staying in the the Atlanta area, try Alpharetta. It is north on GA 400 with plenty to see and do, lots of restaurants and near the Mall and not far frm the MARTA station as well.

Hello Everyone, New to DCL cruises, we are on the 3 day land, 4 day sea. Staying at AKL April 3-5, Wonder cruise 6-10. I am taking my DH, DS (7) DD (9 but turning 10 on the 7th!). This was a Christmas present to them, and we managed to keep it quiet! I think I am more excited than anyone! They don't know about the cruise portion, either, that will be a surprise! My parents are also coming on the cruise portion, so that will be a huge surprise for them as well!
So, are you all meeting up somewhere on board...I don't want to butt in, but any chance I could meet up too?

Joanne

Welcome! No plans have yet been made for a meet but I'm sure once it gets even closer something will get planned.

How neat to surprise the kids for Christmas and then again with the cruise!

Thanks, I will be lurking on this board! I have no idea what to expect on the cruise - have cruised with RCCL before, but not with kids...Does anyone here have kids ages 7-10 going with them? Brian, I see your oldest is 9? Can't remember if you said S or D...?

Hi Joanne! Welcome!

Both of mine are daughters. If you sign your kids up for the Oceaneer Club and Lab, I am sure ours kids will cross paths! :-)

Take care,

Brian

Hey, I just noticed that Mrs T-i-double g-er has a DD10, and fknaut (did I get that right?) has a DD 11. My DD9 turning 10 April 7 would love to meet up with them!

I don't know where to look for an answer to this, so maybe you kind folks can help me...where can I get a cake for DD birthday on board? I have the cake number for WDW cakes, but can you special order a cake on the DCL? Thanks.

Hi Joanne,

In the Passporter 5th Edition, they indicate that if you let your serving team know that it is your daughter's birthday, they will bring out a small cake.

If you are working with a Disney Authorized Vacation Planner (Dreams Unlimited, Small World, et cetera) you might ask your agent if they have any thoughts about pre-planning this.

(One other thing: there is a woman/company that prepares gift baskets and things for people going on cruises. The podcast team for the DIS Unplugged has raved about her before. I can't remember her name off-hand. But you might do some looking or ask in a different thread for her contact info. I do not know if she can deliver a cake; I know there are strict guidelines about what foods can come onboard. So that might not fit what you are looking for.)

ALSO, since you are going to be on Land first, DEFINITELY stop by guest relations at the parks and get a birthday button for her to wear. They are free (just ask and tell the CMs that her birthday is coming up) and she will most likely gets lots of birthday wishes throughout the trip.

I don't know if DCL has a birthday button you can get on the ship. You can ask Guest Relations either at the terminal or once you get on-board. Otherwise, just have her wear the one from the parks and see if she gets any special magic!

See ya!

Brian

Joanie,

Hi everybody! I'm Patsy and I haven't been checking this board for ages and ages. But, I just have to respond to Joanie. My DD had her 12th birthday on board last year and we had a blast. :yay:

You can order Stateroom Decorations for about $35 ahead of time. This comes with a cake that lasted us for the entire weeks cruise. It also included a Happy Birthday banner, a "fountain" and a magnet for the door. It was all set up when we got to the room on the first day.

On the last day of the cruise all the cakes came out after dinner for birthdays/anniversaries. DD was sitting at a table with her friends and they had cake and singing. We had a large group of dis boarders and started rearranging tables by then.

We also splurged on a "Happy Birthday" cake hat. It got her into a lot of great pictures at the goodbye party at the end of the cruise.

I'll try to catch up with everybody later. I just made my final payment on the cruise and reservations for the Raddison so I have to go lie down now.

Patsy

According to the Passporter Field Guide to DCL 5th Edition, semi-formal is he second night (Monday) and pirate night is the third night (Tuesday). The trick is that in most of what I have seen, the third night is also the "repeat" night which means my wife and I will probably try to book Palo that night. The other two nights (Sunday and Wednesday) are causal (the Passporter book does a nice job of suggesting guidelines for all of these "themes".)

Brian

Brian,
Please please please, be sure your kids get to go to pirate night! It is killer fun and they do not want to be stuck in Oceaneer's for the deck party. It's more than what restaurant you get to eat at. It's pirate bandana's at dinner, a menu on a pirate map, and an after party on deck with dancing, a show, and fireworks.

But you do what you want.

We are booked for Palo's, Spa and Excursion!! Now we have to wait for the cruise.

Thanks for all the tips Brian, Patsy et al. I am so looking forward to this trip! I think I will be counting the 'sleeps' until then!

I just read on AllEars about a new show on board - this is the excerpt:

Disney Cruise Line will debut a new musical on the Disney Wonder this spring -- "Toy Story-The Musical." This marks the first time this popular Disney Pixar classic has been adapted for the stage. "Toy Story-The Musical" explores the true meaning of friendship as Buzz Lightyear and Woody transform from jealous adversaries to best friends with an unbreakable bond. The show's elaborate costumes capture the vibrant colors and playfulness of the animated characters. Guests of all ages will delight in an original collection of show tunes that retell the story in a fun and energizing way."

Does anyone know if this is for the 7 day or 4 day cruises? My son would love this.

Hi Joanie,

The new show will be on our 4-night cruise. Currently, the Wonder handles all of the 3 and 4-night cruises, while the Disney Magic traditionally has all of the 7-night cruises.

There is an excellent article in the Orlando Sentinel earlier this week with more details about the show. If you want to be surprised, don't read it. :-) But the show sounds very impressive and should be a lot of fun.

Take care,

Brian

Hi Patsy!

Fireworks?! I forgot about that! :-)

Our family is not too big into pirates. In fact, when we were talking about this, my girls pretty much rolled their eyes and asked what else they could do. ;-) BUT, I am pretty sure that we will enjoy some of the festivities together.

See ya!

What show will this be replacing?

What show will this be replacing?

I've not seen anything the specifically says. Golden Mickey's is relatively new, and Dreams is so well liked that I would be surprised to see it go. Hercules might be a good candidate to be replaced, but again, not sure.

Has anyone else seen what is getting replaced?

Brian

Hercules is out, Toy Story is it's replacement.

Looks like good news/bad news. Hercules was my favorite.

I guess I'll just have to see them all on the ship and pick a new fav.
