April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Wonder to Hawaii- who is with me?

That is precisely what I thought. I know that Studio Sea is not in use all the time and even if the formal venues were all taken, then they could have held the session in the area between the stores and the Walt Disney Theater. I think it was more the case that they could not be bothered to find a solution. Heck, if there was really no physical space, they could have put sheets up for people to list their spares and wants together with the stateroom number/ Wave Phone number and sorted the issue this way. There is always a way to resolve issues.

I've done several of the pin cruises that were hosted on the Wonder. On those cruises people traded all over the place, but they did open up the tiny meeting rooms on deck 2 for the traders. It was open all night for the 400 plus traders onboard.
I've been collecting & trading since Disney kicked this off in October 1999. I can remember sleeping out in front of ticket & transportion for the Magic Kingdom, flying down for a special release just to complete a set, and lost track of how many pin events in WDW, DL & DCL either I myself attended or I sponsered someone to attend for me. In fact one week after returning from the WBPC 2011 cruise, I was back down to WDW for a pin event in EPCOT. While there I got to talk with some of the event staff, told them what a fiasco it was on the PC cruise, not just about pins, but merchandise also. I asked how come they didn't do a RSP (random selection process), the response was they were preparing for the Maiden Voyage of the Dream.
After seeing the lines on the PC cruise this time I was not waisting anymore time waiting in line, with the exception of the logo pin.
Sorry, I really think for a company this big, they never seem to learn from the past mistakes.

I realized early on the PC that I wasn't going to have pins or anything else limited so never even tried. Anyone with a mobility impairment (like me) that precludes extensive standing (anywhere, not just in lines) isn't going to have a chance.

"Getting ready for the Dream" is a P*ss poor excuse. Everything was ALL about the Dream, but the customers on other ships are customers too! And don't get me started on the Wonder's "fabulous" welcome to LA. Thank Heavens for Dis'ers!

...

As to Aulani, I am fully expecting that they do some kind of beach day there. They usually offer some beach days in conjunction with resorts and this would be an obvious tie in. I was kind of tempted to use my points to book a studio for the day so that we can use the facilities there and have a good look around. DH is not quite so keen....

I was wondering about this too...and my DH is not so keen either! :cool1:

...

I'm all for a book exchange! My favorite EBTA story was the crew member who literally burst into tears when she heard the books would be donated to the crew library at the end of the cruise. She was HUGELY touched. It was cool!

Will anyone be organizing Palo Brunch? I can do those.
How about linking resies for Dinner? If anyone is interested, I can work on these too. At least for 2nd seating!

Hi Dee!

That's such a sweet story about the books!!

Palo brunch sounds fun!!! I missed the one on the ebta last year.

Subscribing - must read pages and pages while pondering if we will be booking.

Hi to folks we have sailed with in the past.....

On the subject of when final payment is due. My docs from DCL say my final payment is due on 2-14-12. When looking at my reservation on-line it said I could start reserving activities on 1-15-12, 105 days before the trip because we are gold. BUT only if we are paid in full, which isn't due for a month. Those of you who are platinum and can book 120 days out, does that mean you would have to be paid in full by 12-31-11 if you want to take advantage of early booking? Kinda reduces the perk doesn't it?

I have to pay Dreams on Dec 30th but PIF date is 31st. It seems they always ask for it a day early.

Special cruises have been 4 months out for a while now.

I agree and I am concerned it will be the same baloney on this cruise as we saw on the 2011 PC cruise. The Fantasy maiden voyage is within 30 days of our cruise. I think one big issue had to do with the crew staffing issues. They were unsettled due to the move and the fact many of them had not worked with each other before, they were not a team. We could see this same problem if there is a big move to staff the Fantasy.

I just checked my confirmation on the DU website and it still says February 13th.

When I saw lines, I made the decision only for the logo pin. Ahhhh the money I saved.:woohoo:

February 14, 2012 was what I originally was told on the phone, was in my email confirmation, and on my CC ressie on line. Until the next day, it said December 1, 2011, which would be 150 days out from sail date. I know & understand I can't book special things until final payment is made, but it is nice to have the option of paying a little later. Great use for tax money. ;) I know that some of you here are or have been in the Military and know how short notice you might be told you can go home for a visit. It would be crushing to make the final payment 12-1-2011 and then get a call from my son, he's allowed to come home. Yes, it is back to saying the 2-14-2012 date.

But would they allow fire dancers on board a ship :confused3 .. I mean they don't allow irons or candles :rotfl2:

Yes, they could allow fire dancers. They allow fireworks.

How about linking resies for Dinner? If anyone is interested, I can work on these too. At least for 2nd seating!

We are interested in linking. :thumbsup2 A list can be made now, but make sure you don't actually link us until everyone has been able to make their reservations at Palo and for excursions.

Yes, you have to be paid in full to make reservations no matter what CC level.

How strange. However I would think February 13th is late even for a normal cruise.

I just called DCL to confirm the 2-14-12 day is my final payment due date. He confirmed that date, both what is on my reservation and what he calculated it should be. I explained that especially at that time of year; holidays, income and property taxes and for me my homeowner and earthquake insurance payments are due so knowing when this large payment is due is important. He assured me it would be 2-14-12 but I would need to pay before that to take advantage of the early activity booking.

Something else we were talking about is linking reservations with a large number of people this early out. He suggested waiting until 30 days out. They don't do the table assignment before that but if you are linked it makes reserving activities more complicated.

What is the Secret Mickey??

Secret Mickey is kind of like Secret Santa. You provide some information as to likes and dislikes, hobbies, allergies, etc and then nearer the time, your details are given to another cruiser or family. Some people will enter as individuals and others as families/ cabins. When I have been previously involved in this, the idea was that you spoil the person or party that you are buying for with little gifts and notes throughout the cruise. This is not meant to be expensive, just little gestures saying "I am thinking of you". I had things like my favourite chocolate, a home-made magnet, a pin, etc. Usually there will be a formal reveal of some kind. On the WBTA we had a Prize Giving Lunch at Parrot Cay on the last sea day and on the PC we had a reveal at Cadillac Lounge. On cruises where there is no reveal, you leave the last gift with a note or I have knocked on the door of the cabin that I was giving to and handed over the last gift. The last gift is slightly bigger than the goodies that you have left throughout the cruise.

How strange. However I would think February 13th is late even for a normal cruise.

I know. I can remember it clearly though as this is our wedding anniversary and Graham has been teasing me that this would be our anniversary gift.

Traditional Hawaiian, doesn't have fire dancers, that actually came from other Polynesian islands. But who knows maybe they could get special permission like they did for the fireworks? ;)

I'm sure I'll have my Kindle loaded up with everything I need, but I wouldn't mind bringing a couple of books for donation.

I'm in for Palo Brunch! I'm planning on doing a Palo's dinner and a brunch even if it means going by myself, but if there's a group or others to join, even better. :goodvibes

Yep, the perk is you are ALLOWED to pay early! :lmao:Thanks goodness for the Disney Visa 0% financing, so I don't have to 'really' pay up early.

For this cruise my CC perk saved me $400 with the one day early booking and I'll have a $350 Platinum OBC...that ain't chump change.:thumbsup2
