April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Wonder to Hawaii- who is with me?

I booked on Friday and got an 11B gty ... I paid off my deposit today and got an email notification that I now have a cabin number ... no 6131 right beside the aft elevators on port side. Anyone know if this is a good cabin?

I've had 6135 on the Magic (would be 2 doors down) and had no complaints.

I too think Ducky will be on the cruise. As far as the litho goes it is one per cabin. I asked. To see if my Mom could get one and the answer was no. The pins were a fiasco. I worked so hard to pay off my cruise and then spend 10 hours in line. I emailed them when I returned and will do the same closer to time. It will be interesting to see how the Alaska and Fantasy cruise does on the pins.

Really, I'll never catch up at this rate!

It's cool to see some EBTA 2010 friends here :) How do I get added to the roll call? I joined the FB group and filled up the spreadsheets for FE etc...

I'm an terrible novice, but I have this throw I've been knitting for my daughter for YEARS! At this rate, I'll never finish it. I bring it on every vacation thinking I'll have a few minutes to sit and work on it and then do nothing with it every vacation. :sad2: Maybe if I'm sitting with someone, I'll actually do some work on it, so count me in.

That would be great!!

Maybe we should organise a pre-cruise meet! :goodvibes

I'm going to try for DL the day before we sail, I'm up for a meet!

I'll volunteer to manage a book exchange if you all would like. It seemed to be very popular on the PC. Our room is sort of mid-ship on 6 so it might be a good place to put up a large canvas book bag people can drop off and sort through. I had about 50 books on the last day to give to guest services for the crew.

I'm all for a book exchange! My favorite EBTA story was the crew member who literally burst into tears when she heard the books would be donated to the crew library at the end of the cruise. She was HUGELY touched. It was cool!

Back to trying to catch up.

Will anyone be organizing Palo Brunch? I can do those.
How about linking resies for Dinner? If anyone is interested, I can work on these too. At least for 2nd seating!

Really must stop reading this and FB and get to work! Have a good day everyone and :cheer2::cheer2: for the weekend!

We're off to the opening of a new French restaurant tonight in the centre where I work..... All food is free! :cool1:

Happy planning!:cool2:

Although I don't think they would make a D&B specifically for this cruise, I think it highly likely that they might create one for their Hawaiian Resort. Maybe they could make it available for the cruise. :goodvibes I'm hoping Disney will offer some kind of tour to Aulani. We go to Oahu almost every year so we've already done all of the tourist attracations there, but a day pass to Aulani sounds way cool :cloud9:

If they are doing a D&B for Hawaii, I am all over this. I have a DCL and a Disneyland/Disney World Wristlet and a DCL Purse and love them all.

As to Aulani, I am fully expecting that they do some kind of beach day there. They usually offer some beach days in conjunction with resorts and this would be an obvious tie in. I was kind of tempted to use my points to book a studio for the day so that we can use the facilities there and have a good look around. DH is not quite so keen.

The problems we are talking about are from this last PC in Jan on the Wonder. The really messed up that's why I hope others will send a email so history will not repeat itself for a third time

Cool vid, but as one of the "crazy" I am not sure that sits well.

I am one of the crazy people as well and have the full set of pins to show for it. I did not actually get the pin in the store the last two days. At Cabo San Lucas a family right in front of me bought the last pins, but thankfully somebody from our cruise meet thread offered to sell me here spare. This was the pin I wanted the most as it featured my favourite character Stitch. The last day, I was way out, but one of my table mates had a spare pin and gave it to me as a present. When I get back from my next vacation (Dubai in two weeks), I will definitely write to DCL and I will also include the link to the video.

Of course, the irony was that I got out of this line and shortly afterwards I was in another one nearly as long for the Captain's Signing. On the WBTA, they offered the Captain's Signing on two sea days and that took the pressure off considerably.

I seemed to have spent a lot of my time on the cruise lining up for one thing or the other: DVC Member Celebration, Castaway Club Reception, pins, Ducky Williams signing, Ridley Pearson book signing, Captain's signing, etc. I even had to stand in line for the Galley Tour. I thought the whole idea behind issuing tickets for this is to avoid lines.

That brings back nightmares.:scared1::scared1: WHY do/did I participate in the pin frenzy. The only saving grace were the nice people and friends we met in line all those days. My iPad was a life saver not to mention the deck of cards. Please DLC :worship::worship:don't make us go through this again.

It did not even occur to me to bring my iPhone. I do not have an iPad yet, but I use the notes function on my iPhone to type my trip reports. I could have done a couple of installments in those lines.

has anyone started a secrete mickey sign up yet?
thanks

We have started a sign up for Secret Mickey here:

Hey guys....someone has to have the answer to this....if we try to rebook this cruise on the May 5th Dream....which I think would not save us any money since they probably have no cat. 11 staterooms available....would they still give us an onboard credit for making the attempt to booking on the ship? Also....if I transfer this ressie to Dreams Unlimited what kind of OBC are we looking at for a cat 11B?

Thanks much....
Tom & Marilou

I think as long as you are in control of the booking, you can rebook on board subject to availability. I know people who have done this, but had to pay the rates that were applicable on that day minus the 10% discount and they lost their stateroom number. You cannot do this if you have made your booking through a travel agent or have transferred your booking to a travel agent.

I got $300 OBC from DU, but this was for a new booking. OBC credit for transferred bookings is often lower as they do not get the full commission on this.

Is this for an initial booking with them or the amount for a transfered booking?

I got this for a new booking.

I am way behind so this may have been answered but what is the RSP process? What happened to pins released on your cruise and which PC cruise was it?

Thanks.
Jan

I think some of the PC cruises (2008), they put cards in the cabins which people could fill in for the pins. The amount due was then charged to the stateroom account and the pins where either delivered to the cabin or people were given a pick up time and location. This cut down on the chaos and everybody got what they wanted.

On the PC cruise this year, the whole process was just badly thought out and executed. On the first full day, I went to Treasure Ketch in the morning to check out the D&B purses only to find a huge line. I had no idea what this was about. I asked and found out that the line was for the special edition pin release. That was the first I heard about this. There was something hidden about this on the back page of the Navigator, but it was like two lines in between other shopping offers. We got a pin release schedule later that day.

In Manzanillo, we were not due in port until midday and the stores were open in the morning for a while. I had fortunately had the good sense to check the night before if the pin release would be in the morning or in the afternoon. I was told it would be on opening in the morning and there was not much of a line when I got there. However, I talked to a number of people who had assumed that it would be in the afternoon, only to be told that they had sold out.

In Cabo San Lucas, the stores opened while the ship was still in port. This is not allowed. I noticed this by accident. There were still a number of Disney sponsored excursions that had not arrived back at the time. This was just highly unfair. They should have at least waited until everybody was on board.

The less is said about the last day, the better. However, people approached passing officers suggesting that there should be proper crowd control and were told that they do not have the staffing for this. It was just a giant free for all and it was not clear where the line ended as it when clear around the atrium. Some other people suggested that there should be a pin trading session allowing people to trade their spare pins for others that they were missing. They were advised that there is no space on the ship for this!

I hope that you have a good day at work and that you enjoy your dinner tonight. I have today off, but have to work over the weekend. After today, I only have one more day off until I fly to Dubai on the 29th.

Oooh, not long at all Corinna, but plenty of packing to do. Of course that is then just one year till this cruise sets sail!!!!!

In one year we could possibly be in Orlando already. We are thinking of having a couple of weeks there before flying over to LA. After the cruise we will probably have just a week or so to do whatever we decide to do.:dance3:

Yes, that had occured to me and the same time last year, we were on the Magic for our Med cruise.

Corinna. That is so weird that they told someone there was no space to trade pins. The Wonder used to host pin trading cruises. Have fun on your trip. Thank you for taking the time to write DCL.

That is precisely what I thought. I know that Studio Sea is not in use all the time and even if the formal venues were all taken, then they could have held the session in the area between the stores and the Walt Disney Theater. I think it was more the case that they could not be bothered to find a solution. Heck, if there was really no physical space, they could have put sheets up for people to list their spares and wants together with the stateroom number/ Wave Phone number and sorted the issue this way. There is always a way to resolve issues.

All great ideas and all to true. Maybe that is they way to say, oops we screwed up, so deal with it. Again I thank you for contacting DCL as well.

Just popped in to say hello. HELLO. :rotfl2: Regarding the fish extenders, I agree with doing a smaller group. In the past, I gave more than one gift and with the airline luggage restrictions, it's easier not to have to worry about the weight of the luggage. I'm so glad I have an awesome luggage scale so I don't have to be embarrassed again when my luggage is overweight and I have to open my suitcase in front of everyone and put some stuff in my DD's suitcase. I'm so glad I bought extra scales if anyone is interesting in buying any. It saved me money. I know flying down I'll probably be fine (flying on SW, I hope so I don't have to worry about paying for my luggage) but it's coming back that I'm worried about. Souvenirs, gifts etc.

Bev

Hi Bev ! :goodvibes Are you finally getting some good spring weather ?

Have been catching up on this thread, and I read the pin horror stories from past cruises.

Why don't they just "sell" pin packages like they do water packages, wine packages, etc.? Just have a pre-order available and that way the pins would be placed in staterooms according to packages purchased. I am sure the powers that be must have thought of this method...since they sell everything else this way, lol. Maybe they like the frenzy?

This business of waiting in long lines to buy pins on board ship is not my idea of a relaxing vacation.. :)

Few thoughts on the pin issue....

1st...I have the giant pin from the 2005 WBPC and 2008 WBPC if anyone needs/wants 1. I wasn't on the 2005 one, but was on the 2008 one. I bought the 2008 one as I had the 2005 one, & thought it'd be neat to have both giant pins....was going to do something fun with them (frame them) but decided lithos are more important for wall space. I don't normally do pins, so they are just holding up space in my house. PM me if you're interested.

2nd...Dream MV....I thought DCL did a good job with the pins & some MV stuff (special ears, vinylmations, vases, other high cost things). They emailed an RSP form ahead of time, and if you didn't fill it out prior to the cruise, you could go to a special spot once on board (embarkation day) & fill it out then. You chose a time when you wanted to return to pick up your things. After everyone had picked up the things they'd ordered, DCL then put the left overs in the stores for the general public. DCL could have done T-shirts/clothes/the D&B purses...anything Inagural or Maiden Voyage through the RSP. They would have been able to know exactly how many pieces of each item needed to be purchased, and included more for the shops. This would have avoided the major lines & chaos inside the stores. That was a mad house. I remember the day the D&B Inagural purses came out - there were people in line 5hrs before the store opened! 1 of my roommates ended up getting in line 1 1/2 hrs before the store opened and was number 53 in line.

I know I have friends that were on the MV that wanted MV stuff (not inagural voyages) but had early dining, so when they got to the stores, there was nothing left.

Thanks ... I looked at the map and the location looks good .. no noisy areas above or below ... Do you know where the laundry is on the 6th floor?

It's across the hall from stateroom #6588, as Angie said, midsip starboard.

.

If someone is organizing a dis pin trading session, I will be there! I don't have any DCL pins, just collect the ones we like from disney cm's and ebay.
