Glad to hear all of you came through Irene safe.

I was reading on the DISboard forum a report that DCL is changing their policy on bringing alcohol onboard. Can anyone confirm this? I called DCL and they said they didn't know anything about it.

Disney Cruise Line carry-on alcohol policy changing September 19
http://m.examiner.com/examiner/pm_60874/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=1i9lMvun

and...doesn't say anything about hard liquor (though I would imagine the 'one bottle' would hold for that too).

Hmmmm....this may lead to DIS meet liquor schleping/exchanges.....

In the past we've included wine in gift packages from Shirley, wonder if that will be impacted?

.

Doesn't really seem fair for people with longer cruises. A 6pk of beer and 5-nights before we see land (so we can restock) is a little different then those that are on a 3 or 4 night cruise.

Im not a big drinker, but would like to have a nice glass of wine each night on a buy-my-own-bottle-and-bring-it-with-me kinda budget!:rolleyes1

Honestly I am not worried as of now. I will wait till I hear it from my friend at DCl before I freak out.

Ummm...when you go to the Disney reservations page and select "Hawaii" as where you want to cruise, TWO months now appear available for selection: April 2012 AND October 2012. :woohoo:

Now granted, if you select October 2012 and then select just 2 adults, the system says that the trip is sold out, but this was NOT an option to select on Friday...

Thoughts???

I saw that, but then remembered that this is Disney IT we are talking about but who knows. I am changing dates.

It's funny that you should say that. I got my cruise documents on Friday and something caught my eye that I can't remember seeing before:

Please be sure to review our full alcohol policy prior to departure. A limited quantity of alcohol is allowed per guest (21 years of age or older) in carry-on bags only.

I knew about the carry-on bags, but I think the "limited" is new.

I know that the Wonder originally had bookings for Honolulu in May and October. For some reason only the spring cruise showed up when the itineraries were released. I doubt that they would add the second cruise now. It is more likely that the website was set up for two cruises, but only one was scheduled and due to some glitch the second one now shows up.

Think I can make an 11:55am flight after the cruise at LAX?

I had called and asked a Disney Cruisline rep and they said not to book flights before 1pm. I'm sure they add in extra time, but I'm not pushing it since we don't dock until 930am. The last of the "early" flight cross country that I saw left at 1105am... I didn't think that was possible so I'm gonna hang in LAX all day for the next available flight...which is 10pm...ugh. But what r u gonna do. It looks like cross country flights either leave early in the day or late in the evening, no mid day flights.

I also noticed that October showed up on the ressie site today. I Wonder what that means? I enjoy vacationing in October, Our aniversary in 10-10 and we usually cruise or go to the food and wine festivle at EPCOT. I don't that that October is prime season for Hawaii though. I guess we'll all have to wait and see.popcorn::

I sure wouldn't hang at the airport with all there is to do in the LA area! Luggage is an issue, but there's GOT to be a workable solution.

Just booked this cruise, taking my 3 year old twin boys (they will be 4 by the time we cruise next year). Can't wait!!!!

Wondering, since it looks like the alcohol policy is in fact true, if we will be having the Champagne Girls night?

I have a group that is on the cruise in November (paid in full date was yesterday), one of the couples are getting married and they were hoping to bring on a few bottles of $$$ champagne....Just sent them an email and I can't see them being too happy!

Has everyone checked in yet from the wrath of Irene? I hope you are all okay!:goodvibes

My DD6 has just started asking for a sarong, so I guess I better order that fabric!

Just checking, but has anyone else noticed that our Ensanada day is Mother's Day!?! :cool1:
I wonder if Disney's gonna do something special for that...

Luggage is the issue. I thought of us maybe going to DL, I'm never been to Cali let alone DL...but I don't know what to do with our luggage. I guess we coulnd rent a car at the airport, leave the luggage in the car and drive over to DL, then return the car at the airport and catch our late flight. I'm concerned we'll be really tired and won't be into it...not sure what to do.

Any recommendations?

Champagne Girls will happen. :thumbsup2

I would wait and see what is enforced before I started getting too unhappy. A reasonable amount is unclear and open to interpretation by those at the port.

I was on Alaska cruise for Mothers Day and no mention was made about it anywhere we went on board that day. I was very disappointed :sad2: Also ignored Cinco de Mayo - but some of us decorated doors and brought some decorations to dinner

There are 4 or more new pages on the Forum thread about this new policy just this morning (do DISboard members know how to party??). Here is one posting at 9:20 PST this morning:

DISNEY CRUISE NEWS

Disney Cruise Alcohol Allowance
BY CAPTAIN MICKEY ⋅ AUGUST 30, 2011 ⋅ POST A COMMENT
FILED UNDER DISNEY CRUISE
Beginning September 19, 2011, a change is being implemented regarding the amount and types of alcohol that can be brought onboard on embarkation day. The change is as follows:

On embarkation day, guests (21 years of age and older) may bring on board one unopened bottle (750ml) of wine or champagne, or six bottles/cans (12 oz.) of beer per person, and it must be hand-carried in a day bag and/or carry-on luggage. Carry-on luggage dimensions cannot exceed 22″ wide, 14″ high and 9″ deep.

A $20 corkage fee per bottle will be charged should you wish to consume this wine/champagne in one of the main dining rooms, Palo or Remy. A corkage fee is a charge exacted at a restaurant for every bottle served that was not bought on the premises. Guests may not bring their personal beverages into any other venue, including public decks.

Any alcohol packed in checked luggage will be confiscated and discarded without notice or compensation. All beer/wine/champagne, over the allowable 1-bottle per guest (21 years of age and older) limit in carry-on luggage will also be confiscated and discarded without compensation.

Please be advised: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, any alcohol will be discarded with no remuneration offered. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

Please note on cruises prior to September 19, 2011, there is no limit to the amount of alcohol you bring onboard with you.

Then this another update was posted at 9:56 PST this morning:

whaaaat?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just spoke with a CM named Jeff on the DCL hotline (who was very nice, BTW). He said that as of 12pm today, the policy changed BACK to the original policy, but is still subject to change at any given time, and I should call back again before I sail in three weeks just to make sure it hasn't changed again. Whaaaat? He was really nice about it, but now I am SO confused.

As far as contacting Disney, I agree, if you are upset with the lack of fair notice with regards to the policy change, let Disney know! I sent a letter via email & snail mail.

If you have any opinion, you might want to send an e-mail to the address which was given in this posting:

I just talked to a lovely lady at DCL.. she suggested that I e mail dcl.guest.communications@disneycruise.com to voice my dissapointment at this new rule. This way they can monitor customer feedback and make changes if they feel necessary. They have not as yet received many calls regarding this matter so lets let them know how we feel.

DH and I would love to go on this cruise using our DVC points, but all the DVC rooms are spoken for. I'll be checking back regularly for cancellations.
