If I do go anywhere I will check in. I figure right now Murphy Law is going to happen. I say this because I am always scrambling to get packed at the last min, yes I am a last min packers, but I have my bag ready to go so I doubt I will go anywhere.

Thoughts and prayers for everyones safety as Irene passes my.

I wouldn't say they are common here, however we are currently under a tornado watch in Ontario. This is different than a tornado warning. A watch means that it could happen, all the elements are there however one hasn't formed. A warning means one is forming or most likely to form.

Jon

Gosh we sat under a tornado warning for 5 hours on Wednesday....Tornado reported to have touched down just outside London, but has not been confirmed. I grew up in Barrie and had my house destroyed in the '85 tornado, so get a little freaked out.

I would say that a tornado is pretty common, we have quite a few in southwestern ontario every year.

Thoughts and prayers to everyone on the East Coast!

We have family in Philly and Richmond, Va., and they have kept me worries all week with hurricanes and earthquakes!

I can't believe we are in CT and not FL preparing for a hurricance. We were supposed to go camping this weekend and got a call from the state park advising everyone not to come until at least Tuesday. We are trying to get all outside stuff inside, get some extra food and take the generator from the camper and put it in the house. It will not run the house but will probably run the sump pump in our basement if we need it. The TV is loaded with warnings etc. and some schools that were going to start on Monday have been cancelled already. Suer hope it goes more out to sea and everyone is safe. Prayers are with my Disboard family.

Everyone please stay safe. We in Fla. Are fortunate that Irene passed us bt.

Stay safe tonight,,,The days that folloe will not be fun, we remember 2004-2005 and 5 direct hits.

Good Morning, Happy Cruisers!

No cruise planning to report. I'm working today at the Rubber Stamp and Scrapbook show. Supposed to work tomorrow, too, but Irene will be here by then, so I plan to be snug at home with my spouse. I emailed the organizer on Tuesday and told him we had a hurricane coming and he might want to think of a "plan B". I received a kinda snarky response - 'oh, it's in Puerto Rico. . . If you can't be there we'll manage without you.' Well DUH - it's not going to STAY in Puerto Rico!

Everyone in harms way - STAY SAFE!
Happy Day all!

I guess the it depends on how you define "common". Yes, they are more "common" in your area of the province than if our area. To me something that is common means we experience it on a regular basis and we would be better prepared for it. I remember the one in Barrie. We had a cottage up there and went up the day after to check out the area. I remember seeing the destruction and sadness.

We got "upgraded" to a warning after I put up the previous post on Wednesday as well.

The most important thing is that everyone stays say no matter what the weather is doing.

Jon

I pray that everybody stays safe and suffers no damage to their property.

Won't he be surprised:scared1:...one of those people who think they know it all to the point they can be hazardous to others:confused3 Glad you plan to stay safe.

Guess I had the last laugh, such as it is. :sad1:

I worked for an hour and a half this morning, and they let me go for lack of work - at least I got in free, so that was worth it. Some of the vendors didn't show up - some of them said they were leaving at the end of the day. And the customer base stayed home in droves. "Mr. Sunshine" already said to me - they won't be back next year.

Meanwhile, the sun is out and it's a glorious day.

Enjoy your day! We're experiencing rain and some gusts of wind. Not too bad yet considering what we have been expecting. I do hope the storm misses NYC; they make it look very scary for those living/working in the high-rise buildings.

Just thought I would check in. I got to work at 7am this morning and will not leave until the hurricane has passed through (one of the joys of being the boss). At least I have a comfy couch and plenty of snacks.

The rain has started, but it's still dead calm.

Same here, it's been cloudy and gray and we've had a few heavy rain bands already come through... No wind yet...but it's coming!
Probably won't sleep too well tonight and tomorrow's going to be a loooong one! Good luck to all and stay safe!

Well, the storm passed by with relatively minor damage. But, in getting things looked at some other things were discovered. Without going into too much, a whole can of worms was opened and DH and I just ran away to the beach for the weekend! Next week will be crazy, that is for sure. I hope everyone stays safe and secure! I pray this passes for everyone with little impact!

Enjoy running away from home...I think we all need to regularly :goodvibes

Holy CatFish, what a feeling.....it was like something you feel, but nothing you can do, out of you control....but no damage/all is good.....:surfweb:
Breaking news: Washington D. C. has just revealed what every body thought was an Earthquake was really the economy hitting rock bottom...:lmao:
sorry had to make light of this situation....

I'm a huge fan of humor as a coping mechanism. The worse the situation, the more likely I am to come up with jokes, funny comments and any other ways to ease a tense situation.

In the last 11 months, I think I've used every "shaken but not stirred" comment known to man about EQs.

For anyone interested in EQs, we had a really interesting news article on our local news site today about things that international geologists have learnt about our EQs last September and again in February, which took the lives of 182 people, and the subsequent 7500 aftershocks.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/christchurch-earthquake-2011/5519022/The-year-the-earth-shook

We've had 3 quakes today which I've not felt but I was awaken twice on Friday night by aftershocks.

When we only do non-DCL excusions when we have a full day in port and then only the morning ones so that we have several hours of safe time. Generally we stick to the DCL excusions.

We often "go on our own" which depends on where we are but often we just look around the township we dock in on foot. Often the shore excursions revolve around snorkeling, beaches or more boats - none of which interest us.

In St Thomas (and Gibraltar along with many other places) last time, we just walked around the town and visited the museum.

Cartegena, Colombia, we did the Disney excursion.

For Madeira, we did the tour that Noel organized along with 100+ other Dis'ers.

We always make sure we are some of the first off the ship and are often back by mid afternoon for a late lunch giving us plenty of time if there are any delays.

When we did Hawaii last time, we did half day morning excursions with another tour company - knowing even if their transport exploded that we'd have time for them to get us back to the ship.

To be honest, I'm more concerned about actually arriving in LA before the ship leaves - we were delayed 14 hours out of Auckland on our trip in July so we try to make sure we are arriving at least 36 hours before the ship leaves.

And finally, to everyone who has Irene popping by to visit - please stay safe!

Probably won't sleep tonight worrying about the storm. Here by myself but have done everything I could to minimize damage. We should get the worst of it in Philly by 4 AM. Praying that it will not be too, too bad. In '99 we had four trees down and water in the basement from Floyd. Now I have a battery backup for the sump pump along with a small generator. So since I am so prepared maybe I won't need them (fingers crossed!).

Thinking of all the DisBoard family on the east coast. Hope everyone stays safe through Irene. Please take care!
