I am dying as well to hear how Club 33 was awful. My 2 times were over the top fantastic. Put me on the list as well of people who want to see and here about the upgrade to the Roy suite.

The Roy Disney Suite was a huge treat. I had called DCL and asked if they would be offering at the pier upgrades the day before we left. I was told they only were offered at PC and not LA, this seemed to agree with what I had read posted on the DISboards MR forum. Still hoping for the best so we got to the pier at 9:00, left our luggage in the car and went in to see what we could get. They let us right in and we were the first in line at the Castaway check-in. Also contrary to what I had read, the people working there could not have been more helpful and pleasant. We had only about a 30 minute wait, in comfortable seats, until we were checked-in. When we asked about an upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite they asked if we wanted a quote for the Roy too. We had been in a cat 6A, that we had booked on-board a year ago, so when they told us the Roy Disney Suite was available and the total cost would bring our booking to less then $3,000 total for both of us we thought we would never have this chance again.

While I am so glad we did it, I don't think I would do it again. The place was tooo big. I am a neat freak and spent a lot of time picking up the 5 rooms plus 3 bathrooms and butler's pantry. I know, your feeling so sorry for me about now.

I don't want to go into details about Club33 on the boards but to say we had dined there before and it was a total delight. This time was the complete opposite - in every way. I spoke with the manager of the club the next morning, he had not been on-site the night before, but could not have been more gracious and apologetic. He has done everything possible to make it up to us. However, there is no way to reverse the huge disappointment and mortifications we felt by how we were treated.

Well, Val, I certainly don't want you to have to relive that experience, but I hope they made it up to you, at least partially. It's so disappointing when a venue w/that kind of reputation lets you down that badly.

On another note, good for you on getting the Roy suite, but I know what you mean about the room. We toured it once and it is lovely, but for 2 it's really big! The only thing I had was bathroom envy; DH is 6'4" and he really has to squeeze in those tiny bathrooms in the regular cabins.

Edited: This part is about what we read (per the question above): I read about upgrading in LA on the MR cruises in a couple of places. I know it was in the forum section but I read the trip reports, general formum topics and the specific MR topic and can't remember which report I read where. I had read there were no upgrades. Then I read that people did purchase upgrades but the price quoted was the rack rate. Then I read some upgrade deals were purchased but on-board, after sailing not at the pier. I called DCL and was told there were never upgrades because they had to many walk-in cruisers on the day of the cruise willing to pay rack rate. I kinda doubted that. I spoke to one of the officers on-board, who is in the hotel management area and he said they came out with new' upgrade rates 4 weeks ago. I didn't ask him any questions so I don't know when or how they are applied.

Edit: We arrived at the pier before check-in was open, hoping to upgrade, and were first in line. We asked about upgrading, and were asked if we'd like to consider the Roy O. Disney suite. Wull, yuh! They didn't seem to have a formula, instead offering set prices. Many categories were still open, with Mexican Riviera cruises not selling out or nearly so. The Roy O. suite was heavily discounted on that day. We were more than lucky, because Valerie had planned.

We had the Roy Suite on the Magic in 2008 with 6 people, and it seemed large to me, I can't imagine having less people in it. But its a beautiful suite and totally worth the experience for the great price you got on it. I hope you had a fab cruise!

just popping on to say hello, now i am popping off again, see you all on the cruise, I am usually to be found in the Spa, the gym, deck 4 or asleep in one of those really large port holes. Occasionally in the pool when its empty.

Always up for a game of chess if anyone wants to wake up the brain cells on those long sea days

Just got in about an hour ago from our MR cruise. I don't know why the link on page one doesn't work and I can't edit that posting 'cause I didn't initiate it, so added the links to my posting which is further down on page one. Sorry for the problem.


I wasn't going to start collecting money until the after 12-31-11. Hoping we have enough orders to get the lower price. Plus, I know some want to be sure they are going before paying for the shirts.

Connie - I didn't get your PM if you sent it.

I got DCL to send me a written confirmation that my final payment date is not until 2-14-12.

We had a good cruise. Due to an offer we couldn't refuse, we stayed in the Roy Disney Suite.

Club33 was a horrible experience.

Spoke to a couple of the CM's who will be onboard in April about our possible vow renewal.

Will give more details later.

It is a shame that your experience at Club 33 was less than magical.

It is nice to know that they were offering port upgrades on your cruise and wow for getting the Roy Disney Suite. I know that a few families on our cruise enquired about port upgrades and the prices that they were quoted were significantly higher than what was available on the website a couple of days before. I really cannot understand this as the ship was nowhere near capacity. One would think that they would have been keen to make a bit extra money.

Is anyone else following this board via email not getting the feed? On my User CP I am subscribed to this thread for email for weekly updates but have been receiving any. I had no problems with the two cruises we took in September.
