My fingers will be crossed for Bob's health and Wellbeing! Poor guy! and poor you, too, I know you're worrying.

Do we have any idea the width of the fabric? I'm willing to pay as soon as you like. We're staying on this cruise!
Thanks to everyone for their good thoughts for Bob's health. I have been including all of us in our prayers but especially those of us with health challenges. Have any of you heard how Happy Goofy's surgery went last Wed?

Linda, the material is 56 inches wide. They call it peach skin poly but it is not the stuff that feels fuzzy. While not shiny, it feels more like the material used to make graduation or choral gowns. It feels more like it has nylon in it (but it doesn't) and has little to no stretch to it. I wish you could all see and feel it. There are a lot of hawaiian and theme like shirts made of this material. I know Bob has a Giants Baseball shirt that he got at the park's dugout store made out of it. In the 80's Disney made long sleeve, very bright men's shirts out of it. It presents color really well and doesn't wrinkle easily. I have sewed it and it does fray when you cut it and it is a little slippery. Not so slippery that you need tissue paper between layers to sew it though. It is plenty dense.

I don't need, nor really want any money until shortly before I have to send it to them. If anyone needs to send it before the week I ask for it, I have setup a checking account just for this project and a Pay Pal account just for this too. The e-mail address ValBob89@aol.com I only use for this project.

I sent the October sailing cruisers the info on the shirts and made them up a mockup with their dates, in fushia. I never heard back from the person on the cruise that sent me a PM asking for the info. Maybe I'll sent her another note to make sure she got it.

Started the 'vacation request process' at work. It now takes an act of Congress to get two weeks approved...really has to go all the way from my supervisor to department head to the effing General Manager. Considering that the six of us who 'cover' each other have a total of 21 weeks of vacation, plus there are 8 weeks next year when no one can take off, it will be virtually impossible for there NOT to be the occasional two weeks when one of us is gone (a fact I pointed out in my e-mail).

My cube-mate asked what I would do if there was an issue and I said I guess I'll just retire at the end of April! :lmao: OR...schedule hip replacement surgery so that the last two weeks of recovery would be on the ship! :rolleyes1

Okay, finally caught up on reading the thread.

Booked the 2 bedroom villa at Grand Californian as a birthday present for my brother for the Fri and Sat night before the cruise. He went on the Disney website and looked at the GC and said "that looks really nice". I told him he will be pleased. He has no idea how nice it is.

Anyway, making more plans for getting to California. Jamie and I will drive from Salt Lake to Las Vegas Thursday afternoon, stay overnight in Vegas, maybe catch a show or two and then head to DL on Friday morning. She hasn't been to World of Color (my brother and his wife have never been to California Adventure) so will probably spend sometime there, and we should get early morning admission so we can get our fast passes for WOC and go on Soarin before the park opens.

My aunt and uncle live in Garden Grove so we are thinking we will leave our cars at their house and have them take us to the port.

That's our update!

What a KEWL present!!!!!! Will your brother and sister-in-law be joining us on the cruise??????

Mom and I didn't get a chance to see World of Color this trip so we are keeping our fingers crossed that it will still be showing when we are there in April (or May!!!)

Yes, my brother Ron and his wife Cheryl will be joining us for their second cruise! By day two of the Alaska with my parents, they were hooked and decided they wanted to go to Hawaii with Jamie and I. Went to the rebooking desk, they told me it was sold out so we booked a dummy date and had transferred to Chuck. Then, when I got off in Skagway, I called Chuck and told him to be on the lookout for my brother's reservation and to find a cat 11 for him for Hawaii. He said "you know Hawaii is sold out". I said I knew but that I figured he could find something. He laughed. Ten minutes later Chuck's brother called me back and had Ron and Cheryl moved and confirmed into an 11B gty! So my brother was thrilled. He called me yesterday to tell me that they had been hitting the end of season sales and he bought three pair of shorts and a couple of Hawaiian shirts and Cheryl got a new bathing suit. Not sure what I have unleased here.......

There are so many......Indiana Jones, Soarin over California, and I think Cars land will be open by then. Oh, and if you have only done Small World at WDW, you must do it at DL if you can, there is no comparison between the two. And YES, WOC is really worth going to. You can pick up a fast pass first thing in the morning when park opens at Grizzly Bear Rapids and then you are assigned a section for WOC at the specific show. Makes it really convenient.

Just saw a post from someone who got off the Magic, that the Platinum shopping perk is now 10% off most items and no longer the $25 OBC for $100 perchases.

Anybody else hear anything about that?

I too saw this....it makes it a lot easier for me as I can buy what I want and not have to worry if my total is $100 or not or having to divide up my purchases.

Just wanted to let you know that whether you own points, or rent them, when a DVC resort/room-category is sold out, it's sold out. I just didn't want you to think that if you bought points between now and April, you'd have a better chance of getting a room.

You can keep trying though! DVC has a waitlist, which has come through for us many times! Even though the 7-month window just opened for any pre-cruise stays, and Studios are sold out, it doesn't mean one won't open up down the line. You should still see if you can find a DVC member who will waitlist the dates you need, and then you can rent the points from them if it comes through. Good luck!

Yes, I know once the availability is gone, it is gone. But, renting points for a studio is less expensive than getting a room through Disney, while renting points for a one bedroom is more expensive. Renting points for a studio was the best thing to do financially. If we owned, we could just use our own points for a one bedroom, and not worry about it. I am still going to try to rent points post-cruise, so I am still hopeful. Thanks for the advice, though!

I'm getting a little restless.....when in the world will DCL come out with Hawaii excursions? I would like to see what they will offer. I know I'm not the only one waiting....but it's October and still nothing.....come on DCL.....

For the Panama Canal this past January, the excursions did not come out until around the PIF date. I am thinking the same will hold true this time. Like Alan said, some time in December would be my guess. Hopefully as an early Christmas present!

I saw one of my dear DIS friends this weekend and her family is booked for the inaugural Fantasy sailing. We were talking about the dates... we leave one day after they get back.
It made me Wonder... is anyone doing a back to back?

We are doing the Inaugural Fantasy, but it is not a B2B. We disembark the Fantasy April 07 and leave for LA April 27. Just enough time to unpack, wash everything and pack again. I am really looking forward to both cruises, but those 20 days in between are going to be rough!

Sorry we haven't been on the boards much the last two weeks. Thanks to those who asked about us. We have been spending a lot of time at hospitals. Yesterday we got the great news that the radiologist was incorrect when last week she had identified a mass in his common bile duct. Unfortunately they still don't know why he is in pain and where the blood loss is occuring. But unless there is some other issue, we are clear to take the Halloween cruise he insists he wants to go on. More tests when we get back.

There were postings about when we could get the shirt material. Becky says we could have the material about 4 weeks from our order date, another 4 to make the shirts. So the issue is when to close the order and payment process. Now that DCL has told some or all of us that the final payment date is ???February 14, 2012, we can't make the paid date for the shirts the same as the FPD date. There is not enough time to get the shirts back and mailed out for the cruise if we order 2-14. Right now, I am leaning toward making January 9, 2012 the final payment for the shirts day. With that date I should have the material to you by March 1 and the shirts out by April 1. With some extra time built in for problems.
val

Val, I pray that you, Bob and the doctors are closer to a diagnosis so you are both able to rest easy soon.

I too have been out of touch since April 24 when Dennis was admitted to the hospital with chest pain. They did a cardiac cath on the 25th and determined he needed a redo of his bypass that was done in 1997. That was completed on the 28th. He had a tia a couple of days post surgery ("mini-stroke") that left his right leg and arm paralyzed. That cleared in a day, thankfully, then he went into atrial fib a couple of days after that. Those two events slowed his discharge a couple of days, but we were able to come home night before last. Yesterday was our 44th anniversary so we were thrilled to be at home. :cloud9:Some very sweet ladies from our church brought dinner for us last night. Dennis is now on the mend, but we, of course, have lots of appointments coming up with cardiac rehab, coumadin clinic (because of the A-fib), surgeon checks, etc.

 to you and your DH. I hope you are able to stay out of the hospital for a while, and are able to focus on cruise planning and other important things! Congratulations on your wedding anniversary. DH and I just celebrated our 7th. I can't wait until we get to 44!

I've never been to DL. Is WOC really worth catching? Outside of Pirates and Haunted Mansion, what are the must-dos at DL?

One word: YES. DH and I did the WOC package with dinner at Ariel's Grotto this past January and our area was great! Well worth the money. But, even if you just get fast passes or a picnic, the show is well worth watching. Another thing we loved was Aladin. That was the highlight of our time at DL and really hope they show it when we go back this time.

Just saw a post from someone who got off the Magic, that the Platinum shopping perk is now 10% off most items and no longer the $25 OBC for $100 perchases.

That is awful! Yes, you had to buy $100 at a time, but it was a 25% discount! 10% off is more than 50% less, just $10 off of $100! I used to buy more things to make the $100, but now it is just 10%, I will be shopping much less. Thumbs down DCL!

Well, we have had high winds and big rain this weekend and the power went out for about an hour this morning. I think we are just at the peak of hurricane season. Hopefully, things will die down now. I hope everyone is safe and has a great week!

You have NOVEL solutions. As a retiree, I vote for the former - you'll love it!

You have a good point! I also bought things to make up $100, so this will actually save me money.

I've never been to DL. Is WOC really worth catching? Outside of Pirates and Haunted Mansion, what are the must-dos at DL?
Our must-do's are Pirates, Indiana Jones, Haunted Mansion, and after the new face lift I'm adding Star Tours to the list. We really enjoyed this twice when were there in September, and it was nice to have two different experiences on it. It was IMO the best 3D experience on a ride - and that includes Universal Studio's Simpsons and King Kong. We also always enjoy watching the Jedi Training. Food wise - Dole whip, monte cristo and beignets at Cafe Orleans. ;)

At California Adventure our must-do's are the Aladdin show (so funny), Grizzly River Rapids, and Soarin over California. The new Toy Story ride was fun, reminds me of the Buzz Lightyear one at DL - but I'm not sure it makes a must-do.

They all sound good to me. Now whether DH will go on a coaster or not, we'll see. Is the DL Soarin' different from the FL one? I think I really thought they were the same. Thanks for the info :thumbsup2.

Check this out if you are looking for an air tour over Kauai - Wings Over Kauai

Being that this is the prettiest island I would suggest that you do something by air since that is the only way to see alot of the island.

I'm hoping to talk DH into doing a tour like that since I'm not sure we'll ever be back to Hawaii.

I've never been to DL. Is WOC really worth catching? Outside of Pirates and Haunted Mansion, what are the must-dos at DL?

My suggestion, stick around post cruise for a few days and tour DL/DCA with the Morkerts! :yay::dance3: We love to give the grand tour and there are LOTS of must dos.

Thanks for the info. Not sure about Small World, though. That music tends to get stuck in my head for weeks! :scared1:

Small World is very special to us - where we met :lovestruc- and it really is so much better than MK. We'll sing some other songs after to get it out of your mind! :lmao:

Soarin' is the same except the area where you wait to get on is better at DCA and the wait is no NEARLY as long.

Aladdin is also a MUST see if it is still playing.

For coasters, if we can get the big guy on, California Screamin' is my favorite coaster ever! If the guys won't ride we ladies could take a spin. :woohoo:

I've never been to DL. Is WOC really worth catching? Outside of Pirates and Haunted Mansion, what are the must-dos at DL?

I think others have covered it but I think DL is a must do - there is so much that is different from WDW and enough that is similar that its very enjoyable to do a compare/contrast.

We are probably going to hang around for a couple of days in the parks after the cruise this time. Well seeing, we are going to be in the area, it'd be rude not to stop by and say hi ;)

Cafe Orleans beignets are Mickey shaped! :mickeyjum

Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen Express also has beignets. They are in Downtown Disney, just a hop from the monorail.

Post cruise we are also heading to DL - only for a single night (2 days in park), but we have to go so we can do Pirates (it was closed when we went in September), and the regular Haunted Mansion. It's been years since we have seen it in its original form, we always seem to be there when it's The Nightmare before Christmas, so we're very excited about this.

Its nearly impossible to get DS on anything remotely coaster like. The only way I was able to talk him into Indiana Jones, was to take him to a site that explained all the technology behind it, including the fact that it doesn't go above 12 miles per hour - it just feels like it. Once he understood it was more like Star Tours and less like California Screaming, he was good to go.

This is very cool. First the DISsers take over the Wonder, then DL/DCA. Yay! And you're right: you don't want to be rude, Paula ;).

Oh, man. Two places to get beignets! How great is that?

DH was in DL before we got married (so at least 39 years ago), but he has always talked about DL's HM and Pirates. Those are absolute must-dos for us.

We saw some film from the Indiana Jones ride; DH said it was too much like Dinosaur and he didn't think he wanted to do it. I guess I'll just have to get one of my friends from the DIS to go w/me. :thumbsup2

I really don't like the Dinosaur ride at WDW and don't go on it now as it seems to throw you around, but for some reason the Indiana Jones ride at DL, though the same ride, doesn't seem to have that effect on me and the overall ride is really fantastic. Tell him he should give it a go.

Also I really didn't want to bother with all the standing and waiting for WOC but we did and I have to say it is one of the best things(man made) we have seen, really amazing.

We both loved DL and didn't expect to at all.
