My family and I (about 10 people, not all 111 of us) are going to the Kennedy Space Center on Saturday before boarding.

Be sure to catch at least one of the IMAX movies. I haven't seen the Space Station Movie but we all enjoyed “Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon 3D” – narrated by Tom Hanks.

Travel time from the KSC Visitor Center to the port is about 25 minutes.

I've seen on some of the other forums that people bring liquor with them when they first board the ship. What is Disney's policy about that? Is it allowed, and could it be brought on packed in a suitcase? Don't want to break the rules, that's why I'm checking first.......
Can't wait to meet y'all.....

:drinking1 The only requirement is that you share the liquor with other crazy cruisers. ::yes::

I believe my DW is bringing some tequila. :faint: I'm not sure, but I don't believe they want you putting bottles in your suitcase - that is, carry-ons are okay.

Oh and another question about transfers. I booked my flights separately from the cruise line, ie did it on my own. Disney has all the information re flights since we are getting transfers through them but I just changed my flights to a day earlier. We are staying at the airport Hyatt the night before the cruise leaves. Do I need to let Disney Cruise Line know or should I just show up the next day at the airport to be transfered to the ship? Or will Disney be notified of the change in flights? Thanks

Ok here is the big van update....
Just got back from the dealer, the power steering pump is broken as is the steering column. I am so happy we brought it. He said we could drive with them broken (we have been anyway) but we are 1500 miles away from being out of warranty. If we waited to get back to fix it we would have been out some big bucks. They have all the parts in they need and I should be able to pick it up tomorrow night. Thanks for all the Pixie Dust it really worked.

Also, some of my electronics (MP3 player and camera) only get charged when I plug them into a computer. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I'm going to be able to recharge these things? They need to be plugged in for a while so I can't very well sit there and let them charge. Any suggestions???

I'm going to assume you're plugging them into a USB port on the computer. You need to go to a local electronics store and find something like this: USB charger

You'll also need to pack a short extension cord as the plugs in the cabin are by the desk and are too close to the desktop to plug in those cube-type power packs.

You believe correctly! :thumbsup2

Here's what's confusing.
If you read the cruise docs it says no beverages brought onboard.

However:
In actual policy no beverages in the checked luggage is the rule they enforce now. I'd guess they've had too many messy incidents in getting the checked luggage up to the cabins. You're free to carryon whatever you like as long as it's sealed and no ice, as they will be putting the bag it's in thru an airport scanner.

Hello Everyone! I'm a late joiner :surfweb: .

I (Tasha) will be travelling with my husband (Mike) and In-Laws (Linda & Wayne). I can't believe the cruise is almost here :woohoo: .

Question for you...Last time I cruised, I use the patch behind the ear to avoid sea sickness however it did funny things to my eyes so I wanted to try something different. I'm from Canada and unfortunately all our motion sickness meds make you drowsy. Is there medication in the States that I can buy that won't make me drowsy? I don't want to spend the cruise sleepin' .

Welcome!

Hm... the big consensus from the main forum has always been Bonine, but I do think it's one of those sleepy things and I also think you need a prescription.

Now, my question which may be redundant, are you doing this as a preventative against the unknown or do you have a history of seasickness? The reason I say this is if it's in the unknown category, you may be just fine. Even motion sickness doesn't guarantee seasickness. I get really motion sick in those virtual motion simulators, can't ride most of the coasters at WDW, and even if I'm reading while in a moving car I'll start feeling green. However, being on the ship, even when it's really moving(which is rare) I'm fine. I know that's no guarantee, everyone is different, and you should do what you feel is best, just giving a little advice. :)

we stocked up on Bonine since I have no idea if any of us will get sea sick. I heard that Bonine is non-drowsy whereas Dramamine can make you drowsy. I am hoping we won't need it.

I get horribly sick on small boats on Lake Erie. I don't ride many roller coasters. And I tend to get car sick unless I'm driving.

We ALWAYS take Bonine (one in the morning, one at dinner) just in case. Maybe we don't need it. I dunno. But I'm afraid to not have it. It doesn't really make us drowsy at all taking it one in the am, one in the pm. I mean, sure, I'll fall asleep in a lounge chair on deck 9, but I DON'T think that's because of the Bonine! :lmao:

And it is OTC. You'll find it by the Dramamine.

There was one time I did get a little seasick, but we had 20 foot waves and there were barf bags in every bathroom, so I don't think it was the Bonine not working. ;)

Cool, UTOP!

Happy Birthday Steven. :bday: Welcome to the crazy cruisers tinkertoo. Good news on your van Laura. :wizard:
Does anyone know the rule for shipping Liquor home from St Martin and At Thomas we know the airlines will not let you carry it on any longer and we do not want to pack it in our luggage

canadian here as well:thumbsup2 . i picked up ginger tablets at our local costco. i believe they have them at most pharmacies. i could not find bonnin here in canada and did not want to take the chance of having nothing. i had also seen some threads that said it made you drowsie and i don't want that either.
i watched an eposode of myth busters a few months back on sea sickness remedies and ginger tablets was the one voted to work best without you getting drowsy. you may want to try this.

I took Ginger tablets on the last cruise (among all the other precautions) and I intend to take them again. Be sure to eat something with these as they tend to leave a bad taste in the back of your throat. :tilt:

I get seasick if I just look at the ocean... Ok, not quite THAT bad.

We just sailed on May 27 and had rather rough seas the first day (10 to 12 feet swells). I didn't get dizzy, nauseous, nothing. :cool1:! However, I witnessed others who did get sea sick.

Here is what I did:
1) I wore a patch; applied behind the ear at 11:30am the first sail day.
2) I ate a non-greasy breakfast. Nothing heavy; just oatmeal, banana, and
toast. No sausage or bacon or pancakes/syrup. No eggs.
3) I drank coffee first thing when I woke up. :coffee: (see #5 below).
- Coffee is a diuretic. I drank it so I wouldn't get the caffeine headache.
4) I took 500mg ginger root capsules (the nite before the cruise, the morning and afternoon of day one). Eat something with these!
5) I drank a TON of water before we set sail. I was milking water like there was no tomorrow. One hand always had a water bottle. No joke, I drank at least 3 full water bottles worth before we set sail. And yes, I did have to P a lot. :scared:
6) Upon boarding, we hit the buffet. I didn't eat anything too spicy/heavy. Again, I ate more bread/butter.
7) I stayed away from any alcohol the first day.

I'm not exactly sure which of the above contributed the most to my safe journey. Perhaps a combination of some things.

Good luck. I hope this helps. :teacher:

Repeating my post.

Thank you for very for the welcome wishes & suggestions!

On my first cruise I spent the first night feeling yucky and missing dinner, on the second one I wore the patch for 2 days then took it off and felt fine. So just in case I wanted to have something for the first day at least. No need to spend your cruise being sick if you don't have too ;) .

I'll pick up some ginger tablets & bonine this time, thanks again!

Oh my goodness we leave for disney tomorrow morning...I am so excited. I slept horribly last night. Just tossed and turned in excitement. I knew it would eventually really hit me and it has. My stomach is a little upset and I can't even think where to start today. Love those vacation jitters. It turns out its a good thing I have no car today I have a million things to get done around here, now it forces me to not be doing them at midnight tonight after shopping all day.Our resort has a computer in the room so I can still post. I just have to figure out what my password is...its saved in my laptop, I never type it in. Hope everyone has an amazing day 9.

Good morning everyone - time for another Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Tip Of The Day

Today's tip comes from Karen (ohiominnie) who writes:

If you have linked dining with some other family and are expecting to be at the same table...find them in the terminal and verify that ALL of your KTTW cards have the same dining rotation and, very important, the same table number!

On the 10 day, we didn't look and when we were walking down to dinner we looked at our cards...we were table 25....my parents were table 41 (or something) OOPS!! We went to the check in desk and they were able to get us all at table 41 without a problem, but for a few moments we thought we'd be eating dinner far from my parents!

Thanks Karen - great tip. Remember that if you aren't at the same table you can go to one of the clubs and ask for changes. You should get a paper at check-in which tells you where to go.
