April 29th is the day of the Grand Parade on St. Maarten, and there will be 5 ships in port that day, including one of the largest cruise ships in the world (Liberty of the Seas). That equals nearly 13,000 cruise passengers mobbing the island. That's not to mention the traffic problems you will have coming back from the other side of the island during the parade.

Randy,
Your planning on renting a car in St Maarten. :car: So are we! A little car :car:
Are you starting to have second thoughts
With 5 Ships at port at that time in Phillipsburg and the parade is in Phillipsburg starting at 10AM. The route the Grand Parade usually travels along the Bush Road towards Front Street and then to the Walter Nisbeth Road, through the streets of our capital, Philipsburg and culminates at the Carnival Village.
Will we be able to even get out of town never the less get back in time.:confused3

I guess I will have to think about this again. Maybe mopeds :moped:

Anyone have any experience St Maarten during the Parade.

I don't want to be on the dock waving :wave2: to the ship

I was beginning to think we were NEVER going to get our docs, but. . . low and behold, I got our MAGIC call from Make-a-wish tonight. . . they are coming bright and early Saturday morning with documents and who knows what else in hand (actually I know they are bringing Dunkin Donuts!), and they will be surprising Austin (the wish child), be has no idea when they are coming. . .. so I will just have to make sure he is up and dressed to receive them at the door, and welcome them in. I am getting SO SO SO excited now. . . it is like it makes the dream really come true. . .. we REALLY are going on a cruise. . .we also got some GREAT news that makes the cruise that much more special and I hope you guys don't mind me gushing about it. . .. we received the news that, Austin has NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE!!

He has no detectable evidence of the cancer! :dance3: :dance3:

YAHOOOO. . . . and I got a new gown for formal night. . . but that does not compare to the other news!
:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

My daughter was granted a wish by Make-A-Wish in 2000....we went to Disney World and they made it so very special!!! My daughter, Gabrielle (now 13) was 5 when she was diagnosed with Leukemia. She had 2 years of chemo and 9 days of radiation to her brain.

If you will be sailing April 26 - May 3rd, I would love to meet you and Austin (also my son's name). I would like you to see how well Gabrielle is doing and that you have some wonderful years ahead of you.

Make-A-Wish is a wonderful organization. They made us feel so special for that week we were at Disney....I can only imagine how well you will enjoy this cruise. This is our 2nd disney cruise....we went to the Western Carribean in 2005, and had a blast!

I do hope we get to meet you and your family. I believe our cabin # is 6054 (deck 6). Please stop by anytime!!!!

See you soon,

Dawn Riecke

The excitement is building hour by hour, it is almost single digit time. . .:dance3:

Hi Patty,

I keep trying to respond to the message you sent me, but keep getting an error...something about "phrase not found...." I'm new to this site, so maybe I'm doing something wrong. Any idea what could be happening?

Same reason sammy_and_mikeys_dad up there couldn't post a link - you need to have more than 10 posts for full use of the Dis, it's to protect everyone from the spammers. You'll also be able to then add the little picture and phrases below your name, make signatures, all the fun stuff you see others doing. :)

i AM having 2nd thoughts. I hadn't thought too much about St. Maarten, as I planned to take a leisurely drive to explore the island. Now, I feel like we are back at square one. What to do? What to do?

How awful would it be to be stuck on the dock watching the ship pull away!? That would be the worst! I think a root canal with no novacaine would be easier. :rotfl:

My niece is on her way to the hospital.....

she'll probably have her second baby (suspected to be a girl) SOON!!!!!

Congrats Karen on the new addition to your family! :smokin:

Has anyone been on the "Ultimate Yacht Excursion" in St. Maarten? I noticed it on the Disney Excursions and we booked it. Sounds wonderful....we will be on our own private yacht for 8 hours....they supposedly take you sight seeing, snorkeling in 3 different places. They also take you to Marigot so that you can go to some of the shops and spend some time there. I can't wait...I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about this particular excursion.

Thanks,
Dawn

Welcome to the Caribbean Crazy Cruisers Dawn looks like our crazy group is growing

Thanks for the welcome! I was just telling my husband how excited I am to have stumbled across this site. This cruise is going to be so fun, especially meeting all of my new friends!

Hopefully all our new posters will stick around and get to know us over the next two weeks. Just a reminder that we'll be having a DIS meet at 3pm on sailing day in the promonade lounge. I'll be bringing blank name tags for everyone identifying you as a DIS member. I'll also bring pens so that you can decorate them and add your name (real, screen or a combo). Any questions just ask. That's what we are here for!

This is our first 7 nite cruise. Sorry, I can't offer any help. It does sound like a lot of fun.

Nonetheless, I bet that if you pose that question on the main board, you'll have 2 or more pages of replies in 24 hours.

welcome to all the newcomers :) It's great how our group has been growing over the past few weeks!!

Kaylee is feeling better today and went to school. She says she still feels a little sick :( Hopefully over the weekend, she will fully recover.

I finally received my deluxe edition of the passporter today! I am so thrilled and have been reading it, getting even more excited about the cruise, if that is even possible!
