April 21, 2007 -- Western Magic -- anyone?

I started packing yesterday and I am not making much head way either. We are going to be in Florida before the cruise and after so I have to pack little extra(or maybe I just should do laundry,:scared1: )

We will be at WDW after the cruise so I too have to pack for two vacations. It's tough because I don't want to do wash!!

,Wendy -- you work in tv?? cool! are you some big hot shot :teeth:.

I wish I was big shot -- I am the program manager and decide what is on and where -- basically a peon:laughing: My big claim to fame is that I have met Mr. Rogers!!!! Do Big Bird, Arthur and Clifford count? Basically, I just get to watch alot of TV shows.:happytv:

Have a good day!!!!

I have a question about birth certificates. We did not get passports because we were just going to use our birth certificates when we get to the port. We looking at them last nite I noticed that neither my wife nor I have a raised seal or stamp. They are originals, but they look kind of plain. Are we going to have trouble getting on the ship with these? I am almost certain they are what we used 6 years ago, but now security is a lot tighter. Can someone help me calm my nerves.:guilty:
Some birth certificates don't have a raised seal or stamp. The key is that they're the ones issued by the state or county (and not a copy), NOT the hospital, as those aren't official. Do you live near where you were born? If so, you should be able to go to the county records office and get copies.

I started packing yesterday and I am not making much head way either. We are going to be in Florida before the cruise and after so I have to pack little extra(or maybe I just should do laundry,:scared1: )plus finding and packing dress clothes is really throwing me off, I never bring dress clothes on vacation to Florida. So another question I have do they have irons that you can use or do people send out their dress clothes out to be ironed if need be?

Cheryl

PS Did anyone with little kids that have cruised before have to use any type of sea sickness medicine and if so what did you use and when did you start giving them the medicine?
When we've done a split stay, I've always done at least 1-2 loads of laundry in between. I know that it's tough to justify laundry on vacation, but I can't fathom bringing clothes for that long. Plus, I just don't want to lug it around. And, if you're an early bird, or a night owl, those are the best times to do a load of laundry onboard.

Yes, they do have irons in all of the laundry rooms. One tip is to either do it on the first day just to get it over with, or early in the day on the day that it's needed, because the irons get VERY busy the couple of hours before dinner. Or, you can have them sent out on the very first day to be pressed for 1/2 the cost of dry cleaning. We just might do that this year, to avoid the irons on board.

As for seasickness for the kids, we've never experienced any problems with the girls. Heck, they don't even seem to notice that we're even moving. I've heard that with little kids, they don't have as many inner ear problems as adults, so they're not as affected by the movement. And, at least for my kids, that seems to hold true. If you're concerned, call your pediatrician and ask what they can take.

Good morning everyone!

I am :lmao: about the dreams of the cruise. I've had a few lately too, though I don't think I've "seen" anyone from here in them just yet. My latest dream was that we flew down to Orlando, got settled in at the hotel Friday night, then DH says "So where is all the spending money?" Then I begin to panic BIG time. Then realized it was in the holder at home, and we had no cash. Of all things I forgot, it was money. Needless to say, now because of that dream, I'll probably check 2,710,344 times before we leave for the airport to make sure we have a bit of cash & traveler's checks. :thumbsup2

thanks Amy I did call my Peditatrician's office and asked and I was told to get the child's seasickness pills but she didn't have any suggestions on when to start the medicine, do I start before we get on board or wait until he feels sick(isn't that too late)I don't know if he will be sea sick or not, just trying to think ahead. Also the boxes of children's sea sickness medicine only comes with 8 pills that you have to take every 4 hrs(I think thats what it said)so how many boxes should I buy? I heard they have sea sickness pills on board?do they really have them? Do they have them for kids? Is there a fee?

Also does anyone know if little boys(3 1/2 yr olds) can wear dressy shorts to dinner with a polo shirt?

Are a lot of you guys wearing Capri's to dinner, I just realized that I have a few pairs and I was thinking of bring them to wear to dinner but was wondering how dressy are your shirts and shoes that you wear with them?

Hi Cheryl - I'm under the old adage that I don't take medication unless it's necessary, so for me, I never gave it to my kids, because they never had any problems. For adults, they say to take the meds about a day before getting on the ship, if you think that you'll have seasickness problems. I've never had to take anything, because the only time that I'm bothered by it is on the very first night, going through those FL straits. But, I've usually had some bread at dinner and it always calms my tummy (and this is from the girl that got seasick on a smaller boat in Jamaica). So, if it were me, I'd wait to see if he has any problems before giving him the medication, but have some with you, just in case. And yes, they do have meds in the medical office, and it's free for those who need it.

For the shorts with dinner, to me, for a 3.5 yr old, I think that it's fine, as long as it's paired with a nice shirt and shoes. And for me, besides formal nights, it's almost exclusively capris at dinner for me. I just pair them with a top and flats or nice sandals. Don't stress about dinner, as long as you're not coming in there with your swimsuit, workout or yard work clothes, you'll fit in just fine.

Oh my gosh I am SO excited! It is getting so close. My daughter and I are going to go get pedicures on Monday and our hair done on Tuesday. I am thinking of doing something fun to my hair (like a couple of purple streaks), but I am not sure.

Is anyone else having baskets sent to their room?

This week we are only buying bread, milk, juice and cat food, because I want to go through our stockpile and eat from the pantry.

Last night we had a little drama in our house when our daughter discovered her chocolate easter bunny missing. I had all ready known my son had eaten all of his, but I cannot believe he ate hers too! So we asked him, did you eat Chloe's easter bunny and he said in his little deep voice, "YES, and it was so tasty." It was so hard not to laugh. Good thing Chloe wasn't too attached. I gave her a ton of chocolate baby easter bunnies and sheep that I had received as a gift to make up for it, but this is what I am talking about as far as my little one misbehaving.

Thanks for being so helpful with that packet Amy! I feel like all I want to do is sit here and talk about the cruise. It will be so sad when it is over.

And get paid for it!!!! Now that's a dream job! :rotfl2:

I don't know for sure because I've never been on a cruise, but I think you really would only need them for the first day or so (hopefully)--once you're used to the ship's movement. :confused3 Maybe someone else knows for sure, but I don't think you would need them every four hours for the entire seven days.

Also does anyone know if little boys(3 1/2 yr olds) can wear dressy shorts to dinner with a polo shirt?
I had thought about it for my boys (5 & 3) but decided against it because of what shoes would be worn with them--we're bringing sandals, water shoes, and tennies. They each have 3 pairs of khaki pants and will double up on them, and instead of bringing extra shoes just for formal night (so they're not wearing white tennies with their outfits), we've decided to only bring their black Buster Browns (basically tennies but look nicer) and not the white ones at all. Shorts with black socks/shoes would probably not look that great. :crazy2: They'll wear the black shoes for traveling and for dinner every night. If you have shoes for him that would be appropriate, I'd say go for it. We really don't.

Are a lot of you guys wearing Capri's to dinner, I just realized that I have a few pairs and I was thinking of bring them to wear to dinner but was wondering how dressy are your shirts and shoes that you wear with them?
I was going to bring all my capris, but I realized that two of them are camo (probably not a good choice--the lighter ones are khaki and pink camo and would probably be okay, but the others are dark green and black, so I decided against those!). I'm bringing along two khaki capris but only have one decided on for dinner. The other pair may stay home since it would just be a spare. I had to post a link to my sandals about two weeks ago because I wasn't sure of them either (BTW, for anyone that looked at them, mine are black, but after seeing the picture of the brown, I had to order those, too, because I love them so much!). My other dinner outfits will be a dress for formal and another for Palo (hopefully on semiformal night) and then a pair of black pants worn two nights and then khaki pants (not capris) worn two nights.

as long as you're not coming in there with your swimsuit, workout or yard work clothes, you'll fit in just fine.
So are you sure you won't look down on Justin when he shows up in jeans?!?! :lmao: He decided on jeans for one night for some reason. :confused3 I think I had it set for Tues, but maybe I should change it to pirate night because he'd probably be less noticeable in jeans on that night!

Hey guys, I think we have another stalker! :rotfl2:
It will be so sad when it is over.
Just because the cruise will be over doesn't mean the thread has to end! We can keep it going after we get home and talk about how bad we want to go again! :rotfl: Amy is probably the only one of us--that I know of anyway--that has another one scheduled already! :thumbsup2

I need to get a pedicure in next week too, along with doing something with my hair. A good friend of mine is a hairdresser (she's the part-time music teacher at the girls' school too) and she tried to help me color my grey a few weeks ago, but I must have stubborn grey because it didn't really work. So, I think that I'm going to have to go ahead and color the whole thing, so I'm going to see if she can do that next week too. It's not that I have a TON of grey, it's just that my hair is med/dark brown, so it shows through easily (and I don't like it).

Is anyone else having baskets sent to their room?
I am! I called DCL a few weeks ago to have the Birthday Celebration in our room for DH and DD. And, I called Shirley at The Perfect Gift and have gift baskets ordered for them too (and a small one for Emily so she's not left out - she's very sensitive about that kind of stuff). So, I'm all set there.

This week we are only buying bread, milk, juice and cat food, because I want to go through our stockpile and eat from the pantry.
I'm doing the same thing around here, trying to get rid of the stuff that we need to use. So, I won't need much around here either.

Thanks for being so helpful with that packet Amy! I feel like all I want to do is sit here and talk about the cruise. It will be so sad when it is over.

No problem, whatsoever!! That's what the DIS is for, asking questions and getting answers, instead of feeling lost and not knowing what to do. That's why I love it here!!!

I know where your at! I think about it 24-7. Sometimes its so bad that I can't fall asleep. I'm soooooooo excited!!

As far as outfits, I'm taking along black slacks, black skirt, and brown pants. I have different tops for 4 nights. I have a total of 3 dresses packed for formal, semi-formal, and Palo. DH is packing is Dockers with different button down shirts for casual and has his suit for formal, semi-formal and Palo's. He is only packing 2 dress shirts for his suit. I am also bring along a Clorox stain stick because he has a tendancy of dropping something on his shirt no matter what.

Oh, not at all! Actually, DCL now allows jeans (they didn't use to, I think), so if he's comfortable in them, then go for it. Heck, I should ask Chris if he wants to wear jeans one night (we just bought him some new ones, so they still look nice). Or, since I pack for him anyway, I can put whatever I want in there.:rotfl2:

Don't stress about dinner, as long as you're not coming in there with your swimsuit, workout or yard work clothes, you'll fit in just fine.

What about denim overalls, plaid shirt & a straw hat one night. We do live on farm land you know.

:lmao: I. AM. kidding. We can look halfway decent if we really try. :rotfl:

Jenni, do the purple!!! I think it would be really fun. Plus we could spot you from a long distance away. :rotfl2: Right now, I'm the same way - I just want to talk vacation 24/7. Once we get past this weekend with DD's birthday party and all that jazz, I WILL be talking cruise all the time, for the rest of the week until we leave, no matter what DH says. :rolleyes1 Of course as it gets closer, he's just as bad as I am.

Last night at the dinner table, he says (just trying to annoy me I think....) "What if Emily won't get on the plane?" I said "Oh she will. I think it will be such a fun adventure, she'll walk right on." He said "You know how she is about really loud noises though, it scares her." So, a bit later I sat down & had a talk with her about how planes fly over our house sometimes, and they have to be a bit loud, and when we get to the airport it will be FUN, and nothing to be afraid of. Of course I made sure DH heard all of this. You know what Emily said? "I want to get on the airplane and go hiiiiiiiigh in the sky, and go see the Princesses." ;) That's my girl!!! I figure if we talk it up really big & exciting, we'll have no trouble at all. Besides, mama is NOT driving all the way to Florida. Tickets are purchased, ready to roll, and we all three will be on the plane next Friday morning. :yay:

Anybody else have a spouse that likes to freak you out over the smallest things? Val, I expect you to say yes. ;) DH does get it from his dad though. Drive across a bridge, and he'll say "wouldn't it be bad if the whole thing fell down?" or "what if....." After 11 years of this, I just tune 90% of it out though. He can't freak me out anymore. :rotfl2:

Oh yes, we can definitely keep it going. I still talk to my DIS friends from our cruise last October. We talk about upcoming vacations, stuff in life, etc. We've become friends, so it's a nice place to stop and visit.

And yes, I'm booked already, but that's because so many of you are celebrating your 10th anniversaries on this cruise, and we're planning Christmas 2008 for our anniversary on the Magic. Plus, I'm hopelessly addicted to DCL!!!

Uh-oh, if Eric sees Chris and Justin in jeans, I'll be in trouble!!! He'll give me this "I told you I could wear jeans" look. Maybe I'll sneak a pair in the suitcase just in case. :rotfl:

Ummm ... that would be me. :rolleyes1 Last time we cruised, we were standing on the deck on the last night looking at the water and the sea was pitch black. My DW comments how eerie it looks. I couldn't help but point out that we were in the Bermuda Triangle. Everyone around us gave me this look or verbally communicated their disgust at me. It was great!!! :lmao:

Oh sure, I want to see that!!! Come on, you can do it! You'd fit right in with Mickey and friends at the Garden Grill at EPCOT!!! :lmao:

Sadly, I haven't talked much about the cruise with anyone (except you guys). I'm SO busy trying to get my house ready for this surprise party on Sunday (and YES, we're still working on the dining room, I made DH promise that it would be done my Saturday because I didn't want it torn up for vacation - I still think that he has NO clue about the party).

Mine does, or he likes to pull practical jokes or try to see how gullible I am. I'm on to him after 20 years of knowing him, though, so he can't do it as easily anymore.:woohoo:

That's what I think that I'll do, just put a pair in, and if he wants to wear them, then fine with me. But, I'll try to keep him in his Dockers as much as possible.

OMG - that's my DH!! He'll do things like, come out of a crowded restaurant, where they're famous, for example, for crab legs. And, he'll say, "I can't believe that they're out of crab legs. How can that happen??" Or, riding the monorail out of WDW saying, "I can't believe that the Magic Kingdom was shut down". He's a nut?!?!? And loves to get a rise out of me, or anyone else for that matter.:lmao:
