April 19, 2008 - Western - VERY Early Roll Call - Anyone??!!

You probably could glue a safety pin on the back of the paint sample? I'm sure it would last a short time.

I keep buying stuff, boy this cruise is getting expensive. I had to go out and buy more fish extender stuff. What I did for that is put everything in snack size baggies and added a label.

And I still need my eyebrows waxed, pedicure and a manicure! And, of course, if I get a pedicure, my DD wants one too! My husbands going to ban me from leaving the house! We're not even allowed to eat out until the cruise!

Can you add room 2143 to us (we have 2 cabins). Also, can you change us to a yes for first time cruisers.

How excited is everyone - I can hardly contain myself - I keep viewing disney magic videos on youtube. My DH said he'll know the whole ship before he even gets on. Can't wait:rotfl: :rotfl: :yay:

Craft stores like AC Moore carry sticky pins to make your own pins. I use them at work for my name tag with a magnet because I'm always losing the magnet part.

I have about 150 lime green mickey foam (craft foam) heads with pins for everyone. I plan on handing them out at the dis meet on Saturday. A sharpie marker (maybe even a pen) will work for names. These can be worn on lanyards, clothing, bags etc. all week or forever for that matter!

Bottom Line: Don't make them...I have them!

Woo hoo... Michelle saved the day in re nametags!!!! Oh darn, though... I guess this means we don't have any real reason to staple them to the kids. Maybe we can still staple them to the teenagers? :rotfl2:

I'm getting soooooooo excited but there's still sooooooo much to do.

Did anyone else notice that the Travel Channel is having a Disney speciel on next Friday night? I think it's a new one. It's called Disney Splurge! Something I read on another Dis thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=24366480) said this is the same thing as "Disney Luxury Celebrations" and the synopsis on the TV Kirby website (http://bartlett-sloan.net/tv/agenda.php3?modeagenda=soon) says for that show:

During DISNEY LUXURY CELEBRATIONS, viewers are treated to a guided tour through the many extravagant amenities, activities and events that are available to those seeking a unique way to celebrate the special occasions in their lives in Disney style. Events highlight a fantasy honeymoon celebration, an ultimate father’s day celebration, a castaway birthday party, and a dream anniversary celebration.

Sounds like this is gonna be a great way to get psyched (as if I'd need the help) on Friday night while I'm sitting in the hotel room.

that is so sweet of you thanks:thumbsup2
I also think the little kids will get a kick out of it too.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!!

I almost can't contain myself with excitment :cool1: Cant wait til next week :goodvibes

We have a
lot to do this weekend between haircuts eyebrows done :scared1: not getting our (me and my dd) toes done til thursday. Thank goodness my ds has his roller hockey game at 9 am this morning to get that over with. My dh needs to see his eye dr today and get a perscription for contacts nothing like waiting to the last minute to get your eyes checked especially when every time he gets a new perscription they never seem to have his contacts in stock they always needs to be a special order :scared: this should be real stressfull just before the cruise :rotfl2:

Yes, It is official I did start ironing and packing yesterday :cheer2: felt good but a long way to go to finish :sad2: .

Wishing everyone a great day :goodvibes
I hope everyone gets a ton the packing/shopping done today as well :thumbsup2

That is so great about the name tags! Thank you!:thanks:

I've been ironing and packing all week and feel like I hardly made a dent.:(
I already ironed four outfits for me this AM, and realized I have a pair of pants I still have to hem.

I'm trying to stay relaxed and look forward to this, rather than stressing about what still needs to be done and what I'll forget. Why is packing for a cruise so much harder than packing for another vacation?

OK, the real question is, can I stop being so Type A that I can actually enjoy this vacation.:rotfl2:

I know for me, when I go on other types of vacations I know that if I forget something I'm sure there will be a Walmart around that I can go get stuff at. Unfortunately, I don't believe they have yet built Walmarts out on the open seas. But I'm sure that's in their business plan for the future, eh?

I know what you mean about being so type A. I still have to get some shorts and a swimsuit for DS14 (he insists his swimsuit from last year still fits. I had him try it on and he still says that.... I don't think they should be skin tight!! :rotfl2: ). I have to get some more magnet stuff printed and finish our t-shirts. And to top it all off, had some serious issues with my development computer at work so lost a couple of days. Gotta go to work today (and probably tomorrow) to get caught up so that I leave them in a good place when I leave the country.

I know I'll be stressin' and type A right up until the time we pull away from the house and actually start the vacation. King Charming asked me the other day why I was planning on leaving so early Friday morning when we couldn't even get into the hotel until 2 or 3 or whatever it is. I told him that usually when I get stressed at work, I'll tell my coworkers that I'm going to go outside and have a smoke and pretend it's a beer. Last week, the stress level increased to where I told them I was going to go outside and have a smoke and pretend it's a shot. This week it became a valium. I want to be on the road, knowing our vacation is started! I want to be at the hotel (even if we can't get in the room) with the car parked and our happy butts strolling around with no stress and nothing left to do except enjoy each other's company and the beach and seeing all the cruise ships and knowing that for a whole week I don't have to think about the programming or key reading or what doesn't work in my program.

See you guys again in a bit... have to go get a shower and get cleaned up enough to head into the office. But before I do that, I think I'll go have a smoke and pretend it's a valium. If things keep going the way they are, I'm going to have one and pretend it's electric shock therapy or something. :rotfl2:

Thanks Michelle,

That's great! And saves me a trip to Home Depot!

is it too late to join the yankee trade :confused3

I don't think so. I think the way it works is that everyone that brings a gift is included. It's not the kind of thing that the rest of us need to know how many to get, so I don't think there's a deadline (until the thing starts, of course :rotfl2: )

I'm glad we are all doing the same things. I have to go to the bank today, because my debit card no longer works-too much use this week:scared1: It looks like Christmas time in my bedroom, with all the bags. DH leaves Monday and we leave Wednesday-4 more days:banana:
Have fun shopping.

Wonderful, thank you, I can cross Home Depot off my list.

Happy shopping, packing, ironing too everyone.

Thank you! :worship: That is very kind :flower3:

I think we are all going to have little breakdowns during this week. Too much to do for a cruise. Disneyworld is alot easier to pack for.:}

Another question for all you DCL veterans: How much do you tip? I know there are calculators for the "major" players but I'd like to know what everyone else is doing. A rule of thumb would be better than using a calculator!

For example, if you order room service in the middle of the night, do you tip more than if you ordered in the afternoon? Since there is no "bill", does everyone just tip a standard amount?

What about Palo? How much do you tip there?

So many questions, so little time...:confused3

And I'm still waiting for a little more input on the clothing 'thing' for dinners....

Thanks,

Frank

Good questions Frank, as I'd also like to know what is expected/average/? after the first $305 in tips is paid. It's not always easy (or polite) to see how much "the other guy" gave and sure hope I don't have to give five or ten bucks to everyone who says have a nice day. :rotfl2:

As far as dinner clothes, everything I've read on other trip reports has said that it is your cruise experience that matters most. The guidelines/suggestions are mostly followed, but not everyone agrees. (about this or anything else). I got suckered into doing the dress-up thing on 3 different nights, the rest of the time I'll just wear jeans. Who cares what that stuck up old lady over there thinks anyway?

Send the electric shock therapy my way, please. I don't smoke but I might have to start! They changed our flight from 5:15 to 4:05. We live nearly 2 hours out of Boston and my oldest DD is in a play all week at the community theatre (no school for her all week - think of all the make up work she'll have! :scared1: It's "Alice in Wonderland" and they do 2 shows a day for school groups - about 1500 kids a day come to see the shows. We were already tight leaving after her last show on Friday with a 5:00 flight, now it's really , really, really tight. I tired to keep the time change from DH but I had to 'fess up when he point blank asked about our flight times. It's not bad enough that I've been worrying about this now I have to listen to him worry about it too!

Here's what Passporter says about tips:

Palo Server: your discretion (that's a lot of help)

Bartender/Lounge Server: 10-15% unless it's already added

Room Service: $1-$2 / person

Shore Excursion Tour Guide: $1-$2 / person

Baggage Porters (at terminal): $1-$2 / per bag

How do you tip for breakfast and lunch, it's not the same people as your head server, right?

For the door magnets: Do I laminate then put the magnetic tape on?

-Joan :)
