April 19, 2008 - Western - VERY Early Roll Call - Anyone??!!

Have to update my previous statement--Airtran has released their dates for April 08. It looks like they are $299 one way. Hope JetBlue comes out with something better.

The Airtran price will definately come down. It is too early. They started out at $184. rt, and have gone up to $600. which is outrageous.

Hi gottagoo..I was just going to chime in with Airtran's dates being up on the computer for the dates needed. Where are you from by the way, Gottagoo?

As far as Jetblue goes, they do 2 flights a day in each direction. There is TYPICALLY one morning one and one early afternoon (before 3pm) coming and going. Jetblue is non-stop...airtran typically only does one non stop a day and it usually is more than the ones with a layover.

You can be off the boat by 8am...some have gone earlier...but I wouldn't do a flight before noon out of MCO.

I keep checking daily. I would wait on booking something that high, gottagoo. You can get a better deal. I think most of us NYers or Northeasterners have each other's back with flights....I know I will post when I see something good...There are going to be quite a few of us going out of either Stewart (what I am hoping for), westchester or the NYC airports.

Hey everyone...we are approaching the 7 month mark...WOOHOO! :yay:

Enjoy your labor day...or as I call it...the day before I back to work day...What is a holiday for most, ends up being a day of doom for me, a school teacher.

OT: How many of your kids have a High School Musical backpack, lunch box, folder or notebook? OMG...We have all 4! It is all about TROY!

Michelle

Thanks for the info Tinkfied. Its kind of neat meeting people who live so close (we are in Bloomingburg). So you would consider flying out of other airports even though you live a stone's throw away (and a very short throw it would be!)?

What would be your deciding factor in choosing?

rt is round trip!

We are in New Windsor..there are MANY hudson valleyers on board for our trip! Welcome. Who are you traveling with...we have a list going...are you on it? I try to stay caught up with all the posts..sorry if I missed you earlier.

I truly prefer Stewart for obvious reasons and usually do fly out of there...but I have flown out of all the other major ones, but the most recent one being spring 06 with LGA and I think that is because Stewarts price was soooo much higher. I think my main motivation is price...if stewart is 100 more a person (and there is 3 of us) I might sit on the fence with that one...more than 100 per person..I would do the driving. Another scenario that has played a role is time of year for travel. If we are traveling in the winter months with inflexible dates like our cruise in 3/07, I really don't/didn't consider anything BUT Stewart. If the roads are bad due to weather, I will not drive to another airport. I am not willing to take the chance that the roads are too dangerous for us to travel but yet the flights are taking off...a short trip to Stewart in horrible weather is certainly a different story. One other thing that is great about Stewart at anytime is that a taxi ride is 15 dollars...no airport parking charges!

So I guess price and time of travel and flexibility of dates are all factors we consider. When we travel in 4/08, weather shouldn't be a factor and my dates are not flexible. So we are open to other options. Will I drive to Newark to save a total of 50 bucks a ticket..no...Will I drive to Newark to save 500? Absolutely!

Good luck..hope this helps. Will keep you posted when I see something good as far as airfare goes. Please do the same for me!

Good Night
Michelle

PS. Hi Anty...how was Myrtle Beach?

We'll be coming along on the April 19th Western Carribean as well!
DH, DW, DS 14 DD 9!
We were on th 6/27 Mediterranean cruise and it was incredible! The kiddos are thrilled to be going again so soon! This will be our fourth Disney Cruise.

Hey Michelle.
Myrtle Beach was great. I will post the link to the pics. :thumbsup2
I do believe the airfare will just keep changing. We need to check daily and when it come down below $200, jump on it. As I stated earlier, I have gotten $125. rt many times, so I am not even thinking about it with the current prices. Once JetBlue releases their prices, Airtran will be more competitive. Hopefully.:confused3

Yes I'm on the list of people cruising but I've been away on vacation and have not been on the boards. (Atlanta with temps up to 109!!) If we want to update our info on the lists are we able to do that on our own or do I e-mail someone with the info.

When it comes to the computer I need my hand held until I've done something a couple of times. Truth be told my family is a little surprised that I'm posting at all!

Congrats on signing up for the cruise Olkiara. My DD will be 14 on the cruise and I see that your son is the same age. How did he like the teen activities and what excursions have you been on? This is our first time and I'm hoping the teen activities will live up to my dd's expectations.

Hello everyone and welcome to all the newcomers!!!! Well, Wednesday is the big day :sad2: I can honestly say I'll miss them but I won't be missing hearing High School Musical 2 evey waking minute of the day! :furious:

We have flown out of Newark and LaGuardia many times, mostly because that's where my husband can redeem miles. I would love to get a direct flight out of Stewart to cut down on the stress. It's not so bad if we can find someone to take us and pick us up. When you have to leave your car there, that can be very expensive. Just something to consider. For us Hudson Valleyors, family and friends are more willing to go to Stewart.

Anty: Glad you had a great time! Welcome back.

I just found this thread-we'll be sailing with you guys too!! Right now it is me, my husband, our daughter who will be 4yo then, and our son who will be 20 months. We're trying to convince our friends to come along with their kids (3.5yo and 22 months) so we might have more people to add to the list. They've never done Disney or a cruise so we've got some persuading to do!

For us, this will be our 5th DCL, but 1st Western so we're really looking forward to it. Right now we're in a Cat 4 gty that I booked on our Med cruise this summer, but we're thinking of changing to a Cat 5 or 6 because we're afraid of a bad location in the Cat 4.

I'm off to read through the thread!

ETA: We live in Washington, DC!

I have read good things on the DISboards about Nativeway Tours. We are thinking of doing this instead of Captain Marvin's. Any input? Anyone interested, here is the link and the description I received via email:

This tour takes you on a tour of the island by bus. It also takes you to Stingray Sandbar by boat. You can visit our web site to get a list of the locations that we visit by bus. You will spend about 20 minutes at Hell; 30 minutes at Turtle Farm; 20 minutes at Rum Cake Factory; 30 minutes at Stingray Sandbar. You will view 7-mile beach, Governor’s House, and old Homestead House from the bus.

4NEWTOCRUISE - the list looks great! Do I e-mail you with updated info or can I just post it here?

The only negative feedback I found was that the land part was boring for the kids. Did you find that? Thanks.

No, I didnt find that at all. We were in an air-conditioned van with another group. Maybe 8 people total. We passed by the Governors house and 7-mile beach, and then stopped at the Tortuga Rum "factory" (more a store than factory), Hell (the kids thought it was cool), and the Turtle farm. The tortuga rum "factory" has great cakes you can sample. We filled up. There is an old man who runs the store in Hell. He is dressed like a devil and everything he says has the word hell in, ie; "how the hell are you?', "where the hell you from?" It's very entertaining. At the turtle farm you can hold a turtle for a picture. You dont stay long at any of the places. It is not dragged out at all. Then you go to Stingray City afterwards. The kids also loved seeing the wild iguanas from the bus. One time we had to stop and wait as 2 crossed the street. :)

For all of you NY's, prices have dropped on Airtran out of Westchester and Stewart. $99 each way. Check it out.:thumbsup2

I see there is no $99.00 returning flight on Saturday though! I guess I'll wait to see when JetBlue comes out - $99.00 is not bad.
