April 18, 2010 - 4 night Wonder

Hey outahere - notice you're from the Boston area. We're in Newton. Are we neighbors?

Yes. We booked very late - less than a month ago. So airfare was scarce and we are practically paying as much for that as for the cruise itself! We are flying out of Logan on Friday (connecting at LGA - awful to connect to Orlando when there must be 20 nonstops from Boston a day!), spending 2 nights at Universal, and then heading down for the cruise.

I know what you mean about airfare prices! We booked late for our cruise last April and ended up paying close to $2000 for the three of us to fly jetblue non-stop to Orlando. This time we're booked on Southwest out of Manchester, NH - much cheaper! A lot of people must have had the same idea, because our flight down has been sold out for several months. The airlines really sock it to those of us around here during school vacation weeks!

We're going down Saturday and staying at the Residence Inn at the port, then staying a couple of days after the cruise at Marriott's Cypress Harbour timeshare property in Orlando.

Ok..... let me see if I can make sense when I explain these.....

Just outside your cabin door will be a clip with a silver colored fish on it. The purpose of it is to have somewhere to put any written messages you may receive, either from another guest or from a crew member. Some groups have organized an exchange of small gift items amongst themselves, and they will make (or buy) a Fish Extender (FE) to have somewhere for others to place the gifts. The FE is basically just a 2 - 3 foot long set of small pouches that they hang from the message clip. Our group has not organized an exchange, so you really don't need to have one.

Hopefully that made, at least, some sense.....
Ok, I understand what they are now! Thank you for the explanation! I just found out today that we will have an oceanview stateroom....which is more than I expected! I would've loved to have a verandah, however I don't plan on spending much time in the room, so this will be perfect!

:welcome: to our new cruise members!!! :thumbsup2

Under 30 days until sailaway!!! :goodvibes

Pelican Plunge looks so cool! I'm going to have to find out what the height requirement is - my 45" 6 yr old will be a nightmare if he can't go on!

I think I read in the other thread that the minimum height needs to be 38" and you are dropped into 6 feet of water so you must be able to swim as well.

I also read that you have to swim out to it and that they require kids (probably under a certain age/height?) to wear life jackets.

I know our DS is looking forward to it. On the other thread about the slides, I read that the water is pretty chilly, so I hope it warms up a little before we get there.

Four weeks from this time tomorrow it will be Sailaway Party time!! :thumbsup2

Does anyone know if they supply the life jackets on the beach and ship or do we need to bring one.

Is anyone planning on signing up for an excursion? If so may I ask which one? Has anyone gone any of them before? I am trying to decide if I should go on one. I am looking at the least expensive one in Nassau even though I know my daughter would love to go to the water park. How about Blue Lagoon Island Beach Day?

Thanks

Cool. How about if you go the beach in Nassau?

I'm sorry, I thought you meant about life jackets for the new Pelican Plunge. If you mean life jackets/swimmies just for the beach, you would most likely need to bring your own. The only life jackets I have seen at CC is for their activities.

Not planning on any excursions here, just going to stay on or near the ship on this trip. In six DCL cruises, we have only done two excursions.

This is AWESOME news about Pelican Plunge!!! I was hoping it would be open in time for our trip. The kids will be soooo excited to hear this news.:woohoo:

Carrie (Nightowl78)--I just read Javon's PTR, thank you for sharing his story, very touching and I trust all will be well!!! :thumbsup2

We have never done an excursion in Nassau, so I'm no help there. However, Nassau is pretty easy to do on your own. If you really want to do the Atlantis water park, I would suggest looking into getting a reservation at Comfort Suites. If you have a room there, you have full access to everything at Atlantis and it would probably be a lot less expensive than doing the DCL excursion. You can check in and check out, all at the same time and never even go to your room. They will give you what you need to get the wristbands at Atlantis. A taxi to/from the port is $4 per person each way and they are plentiful, both at the port and at Atlantis.

Not to scare you, but if you do go off on your own, be sure to stay in "touristy" areas. They have had a spike in crime there in the past few months, so like anywhere else, you need to be aware of what is happening around you. Also - be sure to be back on the ship before the departure time that will be listed in the Navigator. The ship will not wait for anyone not on a DCL excursion. The ship is a pretty sight as she sails away, but not if you're supposed to be on board.

Carrie - I just read it as well. It sounds like things are somewhat back to normal for you all, and I'm sure this will be a really special vacation.
