April 17, 2011 on the Dream

We are on our way back home after two great days at WDW! Loved the cruise! Glad I got to meet some of you on the first day after that I feel lime I never saw anyone. Exhausted every night, never made it to any of the clubs! Connor and Asia had a blast but didn't really like the kids club. Too many different ages, too big and overwhelming! Asia got hurt the first night another girl banged her head into Asia's face right below her eye - ended up with a black eye for the whole trip. My mom was upset that we didn't get a phone call. Rebooked for 4/1/2012, don't know if we'll keep it but we did get two staterooms and included my DH this time! Thank you for all the FE's - it was fun!

thank you all soooo very much!!! Such amazing things and work and hard work in our fish extenders!!!

You all made my children soooo happy!!! I am so glad DebT talked me into doing it again. You guys were amazing!

We had a great cruise! The two days at Castaway Cay were so wonderful! Atlantis and the dolphin encounter was worth every penny! I was not happy with everything on the ship, most especially the service at meals and the food - that was amazingly poor for us after having been on the Magic several cruises.

Remy was also worth every penny!!! That was an amazing experience! My daughter loved the clubs, hot tubs and shows so much and my son loved seeing Tron in 3-D and doing the In-Da-Shade area at Castaway cay. they both were able to make the cruise their own special time and loved every minute of it.

Thank you everyone!!

Thank you, everyone, for the wonderful FE gifts!! You all are a very creative and crafty bunch!! :grouphug: It was great to meet so many of you!

Came back home to learn of some family friends who were devastated by the tornadoes that occured here the day we flew out. Going out soon to pick up the tree branches and twigs in my yard, on the patio, and on the driveway. Thank God that was the worst of it in my neighborhood.

I want to thank everyone for your "Pixie dust" and generosity!!! :worship::worship::worship: You guys are the best. Our one bag with all the fish extender gifts and our fish extender was lost by Southwest Airlines! :scared1: All the years I have flown, I've never had a bag lost. We stayed at the Hyatt the night before the cruise and there were 2 more flights coming from Detroit after the one we were on. Sunday morning checked and they still had no idea where it was!

I made a quick decision to make a run to Walmart near the airport and got some T's, shorts, under garments and a new suitcase. It turned out to be a wise move.

When we got to Kidani Village on Thursday, I called and they still weren't sure where it was! :confused3 So a Sonya was suspose to call back after they traced it.

Got a call yesterday from a man (too deep for a Sonya! :lmao:) who told me my bag never made it out of Metro Detroit airport! Told him to hold it as I were coming back today. And there it was waiting for us---never opened!(My zip tie was still on it.)

If you recieved a wimpy key chain from the Bahamas that was us! My dd and I appreciate all the cool stuff! But now If got a bunch of FE gifts! They were a sticky note holder in lime green with the DCL logo and a mini gel pen. We got a couple of them in our fish extender too! If you would like one PM me with your addy and I'd be glad to send it to you.

Thanks again, you guys really made the cruise for us! While we had a good time we kind of had mixed reviews on the new ship and crew. We loved the unexpected double dip at Castaway Cay, but the Disney Magic just didn't seem to be there.

YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

Debbie, it was so nice metting you, Connor, Asia, and your parents at Universal -- we only saw you a couple of times on the ship. It sure did go by fast didn't it?? I'm glad Jacob and Connor had some fun pool time at RPR :goodvibes. We rebooked too -- for next summer to Canada. Don't know if we'll keep it. I was so surprised DH said to rebook, I really didn't think he was having too much fun :confused3. There were some good things and some not so good things but the ship was beautiful and Jacob enjoyed the freedom he was able to get and of course he loved Edge.

I was not happy with everything on the ship, most especially the service at meals and the food - that was amazingly poor for us after having been on the Magic several cruises.

We had a not so good stateroom host -- dirty towels left in the bathroom from previous cruisers is a standout -- yuck!! He was pretty much a ghost, we barely saw him. I thought the food was actually pretty good -- Palo was great!!! On our Wonder cruise, with the exception of Palo and breakfast we thought the food was only so-so. Cabanas for breakfast was such chaos. We ended up going to Royal Palace for breakfast which was much better. Our dining room servers were also pretty good but DH thought the service overall just wasn't quite up to par yet. Should be for what you pay.

So sorry to hear about that. Glad your neighborhood didn't get hit too much. Also sorry we never got to ride bikes on CC. I have terrible heels and they cracked like crazy from wearing sandals -- it was pretty awful.

So glad to meet everyone on board!!! It was nice to see familiar faces around the ship. Jacob had such a good time. I definitely like the longer cruises better -- more time to relax. I felt like we had to cram everything we wanted to do into those 4 days and there were several places on the ship that we never stepped foot into. We all enjoyed the FE exchange -- that was alot of fun!!!! Thanks to all :)

After spending a few days at our friends house in Miami, finally time to drive back home......it is not fun at all...It seems so long and boring... ..vacation went so fast and we are slowly realizing it's time to go back to reality...
We booked ( left our filled out cards and somebody is supposed to call us) July 8, 2012 to Canada and a two-days to nowhere in June, but I can not be too excited about it bs we might be changing to 2013 as we have Celebrity cruise booked for the next spring break, it is out of NJ, 12 days with five stops, 5-6 stars ship and a few thousands cheaper than 5- days Canada on Disney :confused3 it is very hard to justify the switch or bot cruises same year :scared1:
Debbie - I agree with you, for the first time Katya was NOT crazy about kids club :confused3 It was not organized as well as we used too, and 3 and 10 years old did not seem to mix too well. :sad2: but she still had fun :goodvibes
Otherwise, it was such a great vacation! We had the best weather :cool2::woohoo: bracing ourselves
for not so warm NY weather
Happy Easter!

...after a 15 hour drive back to MD. Whew! That was long, but I used the time wisely to make all of my lists for my next cruise.

We all agree: best vacation ever! Great friends, great service, great weather and the unexpected double dip made it extra special.

Anyone know how to contact lost and found on the ship? Tyler could not find his DS when we got to Vero Beach. I haven't gone through all of the luggage yet, but its not looking promising.

Ness, sorry to hear about your friends loss. Our longest delay on 95 was just south of Raleigh. We realized after we saw the debri on the northbound side of the road that it must have been where the tornado came through.

Happy Easter!
E.

Hey All
Back home in MD by noon today. We had a horrible trip yesterday, full of traffic. We ended up stopping in Dunn, NC for the night. As we were traveling there we saw all this debris and realized we were in an area that was hit by the tornadoes. When we got to the Hampton - all of FEMA was there! The front desk girl told us they were blessed to be still standing. Very scary!
Ness - I LOVE the CD of music!!! Didn't realize it was a CD of Disney Music till we got home today. My parents stayed for Easter dinner and they wanted me to put on some Disney music. I put in your CD and felt like we were back on the cruise.
The kids told my DH about rebooking...he rolled his eyes. He so doesn't get it. He is going to take a lot of convincing. I have my work cut out for me...
Hope everyone arrives home safely!
Debbie

After church this morning, I drove around town and saw the most unbelievable destruction. It's one thing to see it on the news somewhere else, but this is literally down the street from my house. Trees through homes, one home with the entire roof missing, another knocked off of it's foundation, and one that was just...gone- only the foundation was remaining. :sad2: While all of this was happening that day, DD and I were delayed on the runway for about 30 minutes at the airport. I'm just stunned.

Ness - I LOVE the CD of music!!! Didn't realize it was a CD of Disney Music till we got home today. My parents stayed for Easter dinner and they wanted me to put on some Disney music. I put in your CD and felt like we were back on the cruise.

I am so glad you like the CD! :goodvibes

Sitting at MCO waiting for our flight back to NJ.

Had a wonderful cruise. Loved running into you guys around the ship. Even at the future cruise desk at 10pm on the last night :rotfl:

Thanks so much for the awesome, awesome FE gifts!

Hope to cruise with you guys in the future.

While I'm sort of sad to say it, I am also glad to hear that others had the same experience we had on board. I found this cruise to be somewhat of a letdown, compared to cruises on the Wonder. My dh and I both found the food to be mediocre at best. There was little that my dd wanted to eat on the adult menu, so existed on the child's menu. The really strange thing was that each night, our server would bring her two salads, but only one measely child's entree...I mean, seriously, we paid adult fare for her. It would have been nice if they could have double the two pieces of pizza or chicken strips for her at dinner!!! But no...just double salad.
And we found the food at Cabanas to be barely edible. Maybe we were unlucky but it just didn't compare to the buffets we had on the Wonder. Our servers were okay, but not terrific when compared to previous servers. And our stateroom host was really something. We would leave the stateroom early and when we returned around 3ish, he would be in there, cleaning up. Found it hard to relax mid-afternoon due to that.
We just found it somewhat of a letdown this time. I had such high hopes for the Dream. And to lose my coveted Palo brunch due to that second day at CC...oh man. I was sooooo unhappy. That was supposed to be our nice, anniversay celebration onboard the ship. And to have to forgo it was a biggie for me.
But, my dd, Kate, had a wonderful time. I'm so glad I pushed her to make contact with some other teens before we sailed and then forced her to introduce herself to some of the other girls. She had such a good time with her new friends.

But we did enjoy the rest of our trip. Glad to be home now. I think that's the last big family trip for the forseeable future.

Thank you all so much for the wonderful FE exchange. Really it was one of the best parts of our trip. The gifts were all terrific, every single one of them and we really enjoyed ourselves participating. I really enjoyed meeting a lot of you, especially Sue and Yelena and Vadim whom we saw almost every night on the crawl. My DH won a bet with me and stayed up until at least midnight every night! Such a pleasure to get to put faces to the names. Also my daughter who was on the teen board met everyone and made friends with them right away. Their group stuck together and this made my daughter super comfortable right away.

We had a good cruise but I fear I long for the excellent service and intimate setting of the Wonder - I missed her. I think with 4000. people the staff seemed frantic and in a panic at times, certainly overwhelmed. I think they threw them in with not a lot of training and for some of them it was literally sink or swim. For me, it was frankly just too many people I think. There is something to be said for a low ratio of people to staff. Palo was the highlight of our trip and the FE exchange. Also I got to go sailing the second stop at castaway cay which was awesome. I found out that they are training masses of people early to try to staff up for the fantasy next year and that many people who cannot take it leave when they dock at port canaveral. I asked why they could not give the staff one day off and one of the officers told me it was a matter of logistic. There are only so many quarters for staff so they have the minimal amount of people who work all the time. I think we will finally try another line or go back to the magic or wonder.

Thank you all again, I am going to miss talking to you guys. I so appreciate you all getting me through the stressful time of moving! We got home and all of the mess was still here:surfweb: Time to get organized and get it all put away. Best of luck with your daughters wedding Deb T and Ness I hope your neighborhood is able to recover quickly. Yelena that celebrity cruise sounds AWESOME! Take care everyone, it was very nice getting to know you. Wendy

While I'm sort of sad to say it, I am also glad to hear that others had the same experience we had on board. I found this cruise to be somewhat of a letdown

I agree - we had expectations that this cruise would be at least as good as those we've taken on the Wonder and Magic, but it just didn't happen. While the ship is absolutely beautiful, the designers really did not do a good job with the public spaces (pools, sundecks, etc.). They are WAY too small for the number of guests. They also didn't do such a hot job with the dining rooms either. Some of the server stations are a long distance from the galley and they have some very strict rules about how many plates a server can carry on one tray (14 appetizers/salads/desserts, 9 entrees) so our server had to make several trips to get all the food for the people at his station. Our server had been on the Magic for several years and was excellent, but he was clearly frustrated. I would describe dinners as semi-controlled chaos.

The low point, for us, was at Cookies Too on Tuesday. We were directed to three different lines, and after spending 10 minutes in line, a head server came up to our "line" and told us (at least 15 people) we were not in a line and would need to go to the end of another line - NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! In all of our trips to the theme parks, resorts and 10 prior DCL cruises, I have never before had a CM use a harsh tone of voice when speaking to me. If that is the way he treats guests, I would hate to be on his serving team! Yes.... a letter is going to DCL about that one.

There were a couple of high points - we thought that John, the main stage performer who played Hades in Villains and the Genie in Believe, was probably the best performer we have ever seen on a DCL cruise. He was also in charge of our muster station, and was even entertaining there! We also really enjoyed having a cabana at CC. Out of 14 stops there, it was the best day we have ever spent on the island.

All in all...... it wasn't a bad cruise, just not a good cruise. We have a dummy reservation on the Dream for Aug. 2012, but I think we will be moving it to the Magic.

Thank you to everyone for the wonderful FE gifts. It was one of the highlights for my DD. She loved finding gifts in the FE everytime we came back to the cabin.

I am sorry so many of you had bad experiences with CMs. We lucked out. Our Room steward, Made, was wonderful. He was always around in the hall and seemed to know when we stepped out for breakfast. He had our room made up everytime before we returned. We gave him a nice tip and a box of Mickey cookies that I had specially made. Our servers were very good. The assistant server was new but worked very hard and had a wonderful personality. He spent time joking with our DD and was her favorite. Our main server worked very hard and usually did not have time to talk until after the service. He was a Disney veteran that came over from the Magic. I even liked our Head Server, he came over every night to chat with us. We ate in AP the first night. The service was really slow but we think that the restuarant configuration was to blame and maybe our perception since it was the first night and we were excited to be done with dinner and to explore the ship. I found the food hit or miss. Some dishes I loved, others were just ok. Overall we really liked the meals - the servers, the food and the atmosphere. Cabanas and Corkys BBQ were ok. The chicken strips on deck 11 were awesome. I had a very good ham and cheese panini there too. Overall, I found a hard time finding a good piece of fruit. It was usually underripe or lacked flavor.

We did the Discover Atlantis tour. I wanted to set it since the last time I had been to Nassau, many years ago it was not there. I loved the guided tour of all the aquarium exhibits. My DD loved it so much that we went to the casino to get the DH and show him around. She remembered lots of the names of the fish and sea life and was proud to show her dad.

We live 2 blocks from the beach so it is hard to interest my DD in doing anything on the beach. We stayed on the ship the morning of the first CC stop and had the pools nearly to ourselves. Too bad the Duck broke down. We did go on CC for lunch and in the afternoon. Everyone was returning to the ship so we found a few abandoned rafts and floated around in the lagoon until 4:30. There was hardly anyone around where we were on the far end of the lagoon. By accident we were able to beat the crowds and had a really great day.

My daughter just loved the Oceaneers Club. Everytime we went to pick her up they were doing an organized activity and I would have to wait for a good stopping point. She said that lots of the characters visited the clubs including Mickey and Minnie. One evening we picked her up and Pulto was there. They were having Pluto's Pajama Party and she had decorated her own Pluto pillowcase. She usually went from 5:30-7:30pm then after dinner (we had the second rotation). The counselors picked her up in the restaurant lobby and we got to enjoy dessert service and an after dinner activity like a movie or a stroll around the deck by ourselves.

I thought the weather was absolutely gorgeous. We had a verandah on port side and enjoyed our view of CC and would often sit on the verandah and watch the waves. It was so relaxing. I loved our room and the split bath and toilet. I printed the list of packing items on this forum and many of the little extras came in handy. We booked with AAA and got a fruit basket as a welcome gift and a plate of desserts on the last night in addition to a room credit. We didn't know we were getting any of that so it was a nice surprise.

I wished there was something else on TV besides Disney, ESPN, CNN and very limited ABC. Once I was watching Oprah and the screen flashed the message that they could not longer transmit because of international regulations, so no more Oprah, that was a pain. But truth be told we didn't spend that much time watching tv. It was irritatting that they had ESPN which was too tempting for the DH so he had it on sometimes and I didn't care to hear it. I am not a professional sports fan.

We wanted to book for next Spring Break but the dates don't work for us. DD will be 7 so I think we will do the parks next year before the magic totally wears off. In 2013 we will be done with making payments for her 529 account for college so I think we will celebrate not having to make that payment and having more $$$ with a Spring Break cruise.

I hope you enjoyed the FE cookies. Hopefully we will be shipping soon. Keep an eye out on the website if you are interested.

Best wishes to everyone,
Karen

We are finally home!!!!! It was so great to meet everyone on the first day and I enjoyed being able to say hello to those of you I saw around the ship!! A big thanks for all the FE gifts, it was fun to see our FE bulging with gifts every time we turned the corner!

We enjoyed our B2B cruises, funny we were talking about it last night, everything wasn't perfect but I felt the good outweighed the bad. It's true it's hit or miss with the food. The sea bass at Enchanted Garden was probably my favorite entree, while I didn't really care for the beef tenderloin at Animators Palate, I had the stuffed chicken one night at Royal Palace which was just ok but had the rack of lamb the 2nd time and really enjoyed it. We loved our Palo dinner, the portobello appetizer was out of this world!!! We both had the beef tenderloin but our server Kim brought us some wild mushroom risotto which was delicious!!! I actually enjoyed Cabana's breakfast and lunch, the fresh strawberry yogurt was my husbands favorite, while I enjoyed the seafood at lunch. Plus I really like the lamb chops!

Our room was great, those beds were soooooo comfy! Our stateroom person was just ok, did what he was supposed to do but wasn't much of a talker. We had Veronica as our server, strangely enough she was our assistant server from our first cruise on the Wonder, our assistant server was Igor, very funny, the kids enjoyed him a lot! Didn't talk to our head server too much but our table mates had a food allergy and he was very on top of that.

My DS LOVED Edge, we barely saw him the whole trip. He would eat breakfast with us and then see him again at dinner. We would see him periodically throughout the day but he made some good friends on both legs of our trip. My DD and other DS were hot and cold with the clubs, somedays they wanted to stay all day and others could care less about going. I think with wide range of ages it's especially hard for the 9-10 year olds. They almost seem to old to be there.

My biggest complaint is about Palo. What were they thinking putting the sports deck right above it????? We could hear kids footsteps running around for most of our dinner.

All in all we were very pleased. We are booked on the Fantasy for next April, but I do have some concerns. It will only be the 3rd official sailing and I'm hoping it's not as disorganized as the Dream's first sailings.

Well off to do the laundry!!!!

I hope you enjoyed the FE cookies. Hopefully we will be shipping soon. Keep an eye out on the website if you are interested.

Best wishes to everyone,
Karen

Karen,

Thank you for the cookies! They were awesome and obviously required a great deal of work on your part. My DH said his was delicious. I'm saving mine for when the "I don't have a cruise booked for almost a year" depression kicks in.

It was fun meeting you in the hallway during my deliveries. I swear people thought I was just getting on the ship at 10 pm as I dragged my suitcase from floor to floor. What a hoot!
E.

Exhausted and ready to sleep in my own bed!
As for my feelings on the cruise. I to agree it was good but not great and the magic that I felt on past cruises was not there.
I will say I loved our cabin (even with the morning noise of the chairs from Deck 11) and loved our Cabin host Jerry - he was great. Our waiter mario was great - it was his first cruise as a waiter - he had been an assistant for a long time - but our assistant totally sucked....I mean bad enough that on departure breakfast i went to the head server and complained. After mario poured or first coffee, we did not get refills or other drinks for 30 minutes. We asked another waiter for coffee.
4 Year ago we did a 7 day western on the magic - I cried when I got off - really an amazing trip. This cruise - just ok. I think I will stick to the Magic or wonder next time.

We made it home at around 3 pm, we were surprised that the roads were not too bad except for a short distance in SC due to lots of locals driving to their Easter dinners. From Miami to NY it took us total around 21 hours with LOTS of stops for food, gas, etc....
Shockers of the day
- gas prices in NY :scared1:
- it was 65 degrees in our house when we came home :scared1: I refuse to turn on the heat again.....
Karen, please PM me your website, we LOVED your cookies  (I am trying to save one for our DS when he comes for a visit :goodvibes)
Elizabeth- any luck on finding DS? I hope you find it :wizard: I am glad we met you on the CC, K. had fun swimming with Matthew (I hope he was not too tired after 2.5 hours of snorkeling). Your boys are so nice and polite :thumbsup2:grouphug:
