April 1 2010 cruise meet

I originally wrote this for my Spring Break '09 cruise thread, and then posted it on the main cruise thread. People seemed to really like it, so here it is again, just for you! :)

If this is your first cruise, some of it might not make a whole lot of sense yet... but read it again after our cruise and I promise you will find the humor! :rotfl:

Top 10 List of Things to Do to Help Your Family Prepare for Your Disney Cruise:

10. Start serving all breakfasts and lunches buffet style.

9. In the mornings, make a 3-tone chime noise, then make the following announcement in your best British accent: "Ladies and Gentlemen, Girls and Boys, in 2 minutes time the forward door will open for all guests to disembark for school. The weather today is going to be (insert your weather forecast) so be sure to take your (insert necessity, i.e. hat and mittens) when you leave the house. And remember, all aboard is at (whatever your curfew is). Have a magical day!

8. Set your children's artwork out on display in the living room, set up folding chairs for everyone to sit on, and then auction off each piece of artwork to the highest bidder.

7. Step outside and lean on a porch or deck railing, gaze wistfully out at your landscape, and comment on how amazing it is that the ocean is spread out before you for as far as you can see.

6. Start checking your children in and out of their playroom. If your children want to leave the playroom before you come to get them, they must stand in the doorway and make beeper sounds until you arrive.

5. Draw the DCL logo on tall plastic cups and drink your favorite alcoholic beverages out of them.

4. Every night, perform a turn-down service for everyone. Place a small chocolate bar on each pillow and leave a schedule of the next day's events and a towel animal on each bed. Oh, and don't forget to set chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk on the nightstand (from Room Service, of course!).

3. Every evening at 5:40 p.m. (for those of you with main dining; 8:10 p.m. for those with late dining), make your family line up outside the dining room door to wait for dinner to begin. Before they are allowed to enter at 5:45 p.m. (or 8:15 p.m.), make sure the table is set and their favorite drinks are poured and waiting for them. Hand each family member a hand wipe before they enter the dining room. Oh, and of course, have a 4-course dinner prepared to serve.

2. Every evening at 8:00 p.m. (for those of you with main dining; 5:45 p.m. for those with late dining), have everyone sit in front of the TV to wait for that evening's show to begin. Be sure that Friday nights consist of Toy Story and Toy Story II (for the "Toy Story The Musical" show) and on Saturday nights watch Peter Pan (for the "Disney Dreams" show). [In all seriousness, if you'd really like to enhance the cruise, I suggest you also have the children watch Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, 101 Dalmatians (live action w/Glen Close), Sleeping Beauty, Tarzan (animated version), Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Pinocchio.]

And the number one thing to do to help your family prepare for your cruise
1. Every Friday evening, make everyone dress in full pirate gear for dinner. After dinner, dance for about an hour while talking like a pirate! Arrrrrrrrgh!

Just wondering (newbie question) -- do people do a cruise "meet" or is it just the title of each thread?

And, is anyone else planning on going to Atlantis? Just curious if we're the only ones leaving the ship!:rotfl: I keep reading about how no-one likes to get off the ship in Nassau, but my DD wants to go to Atlantis, and one day there is cheaper than a whole week!;)

Has anyone done the Disney excursion before? I have a few questions...

Oops -- I forgot my last question:

How's the water temp in April -- cold, or is it starting to warm up?

Oh, and the jellyfish/sea lice? Are they a problem at CC this time of year?

(I guess there will never be a LAST question!:rotfl:)

I've actually organized several DIS Meets onboard. :thumbsup2 It seems to work out well to do it around 3:30 p.m. on embarkation day. It's so nice to be able to put faces with DIS names. :) A good spot is at the Mickey Pool, by Scoops, so everyone can enjoy a cup of ice cream and the younger kids can play in the pool if they'd like. The Mandatory Lifeboat Drill is usually at 4:00, so that gives us about a half-hour for a quick meet and greet. However, I'm always open for any other ideas! :thumbsup2

From http://www.caribbeanportreviews.com/NassauBahamas.htm :
"What is the weather like?
Nassau enjoys a subtropical climate with mild winters, seldom dipping below 60°F. Average temperatures range in the low to upper 80’s; with water temperature never below 72°. With that said, however, just like Florida, these are averages and during winter months be prepared for an occasional cold front to cause drastic temperature drops."

There is a variety of fish in the water surrounding CC. And, since the water is crystal clear, you can readily see them. Many times, we've come across starfish at the adult beach! I haven't heard many complaints about jellyfish, but sea lice are another matter altogether. However, as long as you rinse off after swimming (including rinsing under your bathing suit), you'll be okay. :thumbsup2

We haven't been to Atlantis, but it is a very popular place to visit! :) A good friend of mine reserved a day room at the Comfort Suites hotel next door to Atlantis. They are supposed to have the same visitor's pass privileges as Atlantis, but cheaper. They took a cab over and back. They said that doing it this way, they saved a lot over what DCL charged, plus they had more flexibility on how long they stayed.

Hello, I am booked on the 04/01/10 3-night Bahamian Cruise and would like to sign up for fish extenders.
I am traveling with my son Easton who is 6, and we are in stateroom 7123.
Looking forward to a great time, as it is my son's first cruise!
Thank you, Melissa Tok

eastonsmom, I'm moving this over to the meets thread for your sailing since you will need to arrange this with the other cruisers on your sailing.

I have been to Atlantis but only the aquarium (very nice very expensive and very lengthy) my granddaughter has been to the waterpark and said it was the best thing on her cruise! She had a ball and will be going again this year with her dad . we priced the Comfort Inns but because we will be cruising Easter week, the price was as much as the DCL cruise. Be aware the CI has a multitude of add on charges! And don't forget the taxi both ways and lunch which at Atlantis is quite expensive. The resort is huge and magnificent and spread out over acres. There is also a casino for those gamblers in the crowd. ck their website you will see a good portion of it.

This is great advice for anyone who's not on the 4/1 cruise!:rotfl: Because our day in Nassau is on Easter weekend, the rates at the CS are really, really high. That's why we booked through Disney.

Thanks for the info! My DD really wants to go there and play on the slides. Since we don't want to go there for the week (I have several friends who have gone and had lots of negative things to say about the place when staying there for a week), so this seems like the best way for her to get to enjoy it.;)

CarolinaBlue - I keep forgetting to tell you...
My son bleeds red and my daughter is a pirate. ;) I promise to keep any rivalry off the ship.

DH suggested I fill everyone else in on the joke...
The University of North Carolina Tarheels (blue) and North Carolina State Wolfpack (red) are very big rivals. East Carolina Pirates is another NC school nearby. :)

Was your son crying red tears Tuesday night? (sorry, just had to do that, especially after the season we've had so far) Always feels good to beat State.:)

Rivalry is good. My whole family bleeds Carolina Blue. My oldest dd graduated from there last May and was on Franklin Street when they won the NCAA championship in April.

Yes... it was an unfortunate game. ;) We tend to forget those very quickly. :rotfl2:

Are you all ready for some snow and ice? It sounds like we're in for quite a bit of winter weather!

:cheer2: :cheer2: Only 9 more weeks to go, people! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Anyone going to Disney World before the cruise? We're flying down early the morning before. Right now, we have a reservation at BWV, but we're on a waitlist for BCV.
