Applying a Discount to an Existing Reservation?

Does anyone know how applying a discount to a current reservation works from WDW side of things? This is my situation: I already have a room booked at WL for mid September hoping for a discount to apply in April when they are released. I have never had a problem doing it this way before. However I got on yesterday and all of the rooms for WL are booked. Does this mean they will not offer WL discounts? Can you add a discount to a room if there is no longer availability in the resort? Should I switch my reservation to another resort with more availability? Sorry for all the questions!

It's anyone's guess as to whether or not a discount will be offered and there's no way of knowing which resorts/room types will be included. With that said, if what you have booked is available under the discount, you can have the discount applied to your existing reservation; otherwise, you won't be able to take advantage of the discount unless you want to change your resort/room type to one that is included in the promo. Sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort and/or room type as having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied.

Thank you! Ok, so you are saying that even if no room are available to “rebook” with the discount, they can just apply it to your existing reservation if there is a discount for your room type.

No. Just the opposite. If WL is already booked without a discount, then WL rooms will not be included in a discount. It would be a terrible business decision to offer discounts on rooms that are already booked at rack rates. Discounts are offered to sell unreserved rooms. The more rooms reserved at rack rates, the less rooms will be included in a discount.

That’s what I was thinking. I think everyone is booking super early these days to try to make sure they have a room and you also almost have to know to get a few of the 160 ADRs, but really that means that WDW will release less discounts. WL used to always have plenty of rooms at great discounts and I am sure that is why they changed half the rooms to DVC.

I htink that while many people book thinking that they can "apply" a discount, just as many book because they have their dates written in stone, and want to be sure they have rooms where they want to stay. I never book a room if the only way I will travel is with a discount, however if we are going with or without a discount, I book my rooms.

This is the case for us this December. I know when we can go, and the resort we want to stay in. I booked.

ADR's are at 180 + 10 if you have a reservation, and yes, that is an incentive. I do think that Disney has a formula that gives them a pretty good idea how many rooms are actually placeholders.
