First time renter.
TL;DR: AVOID APPLE SCOOTERS!
The only good thing I can say about Apple Scooter was that they had the ECV at the concierge desk before I arrived.
Where do I begin with the bad:
The scooter I was given was in bad shape. The front left side on the foot rest is completely missing. I had scrapped my foot on that a few times the first day (Yesterday). I called them as soon as I saw it and they said it was OK, since that part was not vital for its function. The padding on the left arm rest was half off, the sides were all scratched up, and the handles were scratched
Every time I turned right, the speed gauge would slip right, which was too fast. Every time I turned left, the speed gauge would slip left, which was too slow. No matter how I had set the dial, it was going to turn itself faster or slower, just because I turned. This was particularly not good when I was trying to get onto buses. We tried a few tricks, and nothing helped.
They only phone number I have for Apple Scooter does not allow for you to leave a message. When it rings 5 times, an automated message says "Welcome to Verizon's Mailbox Service. If you'd like to leave a message please hang up and dial the number again" This is a major problem. There was no other number available.
I first noticed issues when my fully charged ECV stopped suddenly while walking from the Frontierland Trick or Treat Station to The Haunted Mansion. It did that three times. This was not fun when I had so many people behind me and in front of me because of the parade.
But after a brief rest, it seemed to be doing ok, so we went into the queue for Haunted Mansion.
Big mistake - it completely died halfway through the queue. It was so embarrassing because it died at the point of a turn and my friend had to help push it to the side. Fortunately, I am able to walk short distances - if I had not, it would have been much worse.
My friend ran backwards to the end of the queue and got a cast member. The helpful cast member brought a wheelchair to get me through the rest of the ride - but it had a broken wheel. So we waited for a new wheelchair.
Meanwhile, I had called Apple Scooters a dozen times, but got that same automated message. Then I remembered that I had a cell-phone number of a driver who was going to bring an extra key when we thought I had lost mine earlier. I thought maybe if I called him, he could direct me to someone at Apple Scooter who deals with emergencies. He never picked up.
So I explained to the cast member who came with a wheelchair the situation. She told me to take the wheelchair, go through the ride, and that a manager would be waiting for me at the end. They were going to see if maybe it was a charger issue, and look for loose connections between the battery and body of the ECV. They were also going to see if Guest Relations had a way to reach an emergency line for Apple Scooters. He thought they might have another phone number for them, seeing as they are a preferred provider.
So, we went through the ride. Afterwards, the manager was there and explained that they had not in fact been able to reach Apple Scooter, but that they were going to keep trying. He asked for a demonstration, and sure enough, after a few seconds the ECV just stopped. So the manager explained that they did not have an ECV available for me to use, as they had all been rented for the day, but if my friend was willing to push me on the wheelchair, I could keep that - so that's what we did. He said he was taking it to guest services and they would deal with it.
So an hour into MNSSHP, I had no ECV for the rest of the evening.
Disney was very accommodating and I am grateful for their help.
The whole ordeal took over an hour from when I first randomly got stuck with an ECV with a full battery that didn't want to move.
The manager did call us to give an update once in the evening. No one had been able to get in touch with Apple Scooters, but as this wasn't the first time this has happened, Guest Relations has a plan just for this, since it happens so often.
According to the plan, Apple will pick up the scooter in the morning and drop off a working one at my resort. No idea when exactly, because Disney wasn't able to get in tough with them either. They'll just call Apple in the morning on my behalf. When a new one would arrive, well, it could be any part of the day.
This is really unacceptable!!
We lost over an hour dealing with when it stopped a few times, then took a break, then when it ultimately died. It was especially funny when the battery indicator lights were all up to the last green light but it wouldn't frigging move.
Unfortunately, Disney only provided a wheel chair for the use of the park, There was nothing they offered to get me from Magic Kingdom to my room, let alone just my resort. As a result of this, I had to stand while waiting for the bus and that wasn't easy for me. That was fun.
Now tomorrow, our plans will be severely impacted, and I have no idea what is actually going on with this company.
I was in tears for far too long tonight. Thanks a lot, Apple Scooter!
Edit: I heard from someone at 8:05 to say that someone would call me between 9 to 9:15. They should have been here with a new scooter as soon as possible, but I have to wait for someone to call me back? This is ridiculous!
