On my recent trip to WDW (March 31-April 9) I needed a scooter due to a Morton's Neuroma on my foot. After reading many of the comments on here, I finally decided to go with Apple Scooter.

Just wanted everyone to know that I was extremely pleased with them. My scooter was waiting at the All Star Sports when I arrived. It was completely charged up and ready to go. The charge light never went off of completely charged, even after spending all day and most of the evening in the parks. I even spent one day at MK in the pouring rain and no problems whatsoever. I plugged it in each night and it charged for a bit, but I was really amazed at how long the battery lasted.

I was supposed to have it for 9 days, but ended up needing it for only 6 days. I called them and they told me to turn it in to the bell hop and they would pick it up the next morning. They also told me they would give me a credit on my credit card for turning it in early. True to their word, the credit showed up. It was even dated on the day I called them, not the next day when they actually picked the scooter up.

My model was the smallest 3 wheeled one they have. I found it had plenty of pep and my son that was walking had a hard time keeping up with me. Several of the WDW bus drivers commented that they really liked the small Apple Scooters because they were extremely easy to maneuver and turned on a dime. So if you fall under their weight limit and can fit on it, I do recommend it.

I know a lot of people come here looking for advice on scooters and I wanted to let everyone know my experience with Apple.

Let me cast a dissenting vote.

I have always used Buena Vista Scooters in the past, and been quite happy, but based on the recommendations here and that the price was a little less I chose to use Apple Scooter this past trip.

We had torrential rain the first two days and didn't go to the parks because of it--so the only use was going to dinner one night at the resort (when the rain finally stopped) those two days. The third day we went to Epcot. Based on past experience I did not take my power cord with me because I have never needed to charge while at a park. We got back to World Showcase and I noticed that the power indicator had already dropped two spaces! (Note: I had charged the battery each night even though I didn't use the scooter much those first two days.) So I left my friends, got back on a resort bus, went back to the resort, got the power cord and came back to Epcot to re-join my friends. Got half-way around World Showcase and the scooter died in Germany. Luckily one of my friends spotted a plug--we plugged it in and let it charge while we looked at the shops in Germany. It was then time for our dinner reservation at France (did I mention this was my birthday?) and it died before we even got to France. Again, we found a plug and charged it during dinner. I then left soon after dinner because I didn't want to risk getting caught with a dead scooter. (So much for birthday fun.)

Before we went into dinner I called Apple. They said they could bring out another scooter and have it at the resort by 9:30 the next morning--since we were hoping to go to Animal Kingdom first thing I asked if instead they could bring it there. "No problem" I was told--we don't want to interrupt your vacation. So we arranged that they would call me 20 minutes before they would deliver and I would meet them at the front gate. And that this would all be accomplished by 10 a.m. (Note I hadn't put a time limit.) Sounds like a good plan, right?

The next morning my friends are on EE and I get a call from Apple at 9:45 that their driver is on their way! Yay! I go up to the turnstiles and wait. and wait. and wait. Finally a CM asks if I'm ok. I explain what I'm waiting for and he says "I would call them." So I did. Got a person on the phone who was INCREDULOUS that their driver was not there. It was now about 10:30. What ensued was more waiting and numerous phone calls to Apple--each time with them not understanding why the scooter had not been delivered yet. One of the calls I am told "stuck in traffic." I think each CM at the turnstyles talked to me at one point or another. I was there that long. Even people coming out from the back (administrative types) were stopping to see why I was waiting so long.

Finally, about 11:30 (an hour and 45 minutes from the call) the driver shows up (I am on the phone with Apple when he wheels up). HE tells me that he was a substitute because the other van "broke down." Yeah, right. Was it traffic or a breakdown? Both? You tell me.

The worst part was there was no apology of any kind forthcoming. I would have thought that given the situation that Apple would have offered a refund of one day or something--given that I had broken down twice in Epcot the day before (causing stress) and had waited almost two hours for them to arrive (additional stress).

But no.

Let's just say that Apple did not impress me with their customer service--I really felt like I was getting the run-around while I sat there and waited (just 10 more minutes--my friends kept texting to see where I was!). (Not to mention I missed "Flights of Wonder"--one of my favorite things--with my friends and was so upset that I ended up getting sick to my stomach.)

It is back to Buena Vista Scooter for me.

this is funny to me (ironic, not haha funny) because this is EXACTLY what Buena Vista did to me! Except mine DID die in a park, and it took them hours to rescue me (I use a powerchair and cannot use a scooter), and the model they brought me was non-functional. Wonderful, eh?

I have my own chair I will likely travel with now, but i just find it ironic that our stories are SO identical!

I used Scootarama & last trip had trouble with speed toggle thing on the scooter, We were also in the process of changing resorts that morning . Of all the times to have trouble.:confused3 They said " No Problem" Our guy will meet you at Beach Club & while we were checking in to the resort the scooter was repaired & we were ready to hit the parks. I will always remember the excellent service & use Scootarama in the future.

Apple were great for us too. There was such a price difference I wasn't sure they would be any good, but they were great. I think their office was at crossroads if you needed to visit them

It is back to Buena Vista Scooter for me.

So sorry to read about your problems with the scooter to the point of it making you ill. I have decided to use Apple on our next trip in October. It will be the first time ever renting one and I do think your review is the first bad one I have read about Apple.

I am still going to use Apple anyway, as a battery failing to hold a charge can happen to any scooter or Company the same with the problems of the exchange and I have to wonder if it would have gone more smoothly if you had done the exchange at the resort and just went to the park a bit later, what I think I would have done.

As far as the different stories between dispatch and driver, lets face it dispatch probally uses the " stuck in traffic" as a standard excuse.

Did the new scooter perform for the rest of your trip days as expected?

I agree it would have been nice if they compensated you for your troubles we do not always get what we want or think we deserve.

I think that the off-site rental companies listed in the FAQ, over the years, have demonstrated good and reliable business practices. Unfortunately, all of them are run by people and involve mechanical and electrical equipment. People will once in a while have a bad day. Equipment is not perfect and may break (or a battery not hold a proper charge). I know it is not nice when it happens to you, but I think if everything were perfect we would all go crazy.

With a smaller scooter (pride to go) the battery charge does not last as long. I don't think this was your problem, but this has to be taken into consideration when you rent a smaller, travel scooter. This is why you need to take a power cord with you. There are some scooters with two batteries and they last longer.

There can be breakdowns with all scooter rental companies. It just hits us particularly hard when we get to be the lucky one that this happens to. I have to agree there are pat answers given when the driver doesn't get to you in time, but things like that happen, too for all companies.

Recently, I found a cheaper rental company called AllStar Scooters; it's a division of Randy's Mobility. This AllStar place handles the smaller, travel scooters like Apple. They are actually $25 cheaper for a week's rental compared to Apple, right now. Apple went up on their prices recently. I'm going to give this place a try on our next visit. I was one of the first converts to Apple because of their price; so, for the same reason I'll give AllStar a try.

i rented from apple scooter last september. they were wonderful. i had the scooter for 9 days. customer service was great, they were reasonably priced, and the scooter worked great. i will be renting front hem this upcoming trip and do not hesitate to recommend them.

Just to be clear--I do not blame Apple for the breakdown--as a long-time scooter user I know that can happen. What I can blame them for is making arrangements for a transfer, including saying they would give me 20 minutes notice to show up at the front of AK, giving me that call and then stringing me along that they were "almost there." If they hadn't called until their driver was getting off the road towards AK I would have had no problem with that--it was the fact that it appears the driver was nowhere near AK when they called and I "dropped everything" to get up to the front of AK to meet them. And for the person who said that he/she would have traded at the resort and it would have gone smoother-- in retrospect (since I ended up wasting a couple of hours at AK anyway) that might have been the right choice, but at the time Apple was indicating they wanted to keep the disruption in my trip to a minimum.

Allstar is a division of Walker Mobility, not Randy's. We've used Walker Mobility for years and the Allstar scooters are a streamline version of the luxury style scooters in the regular Walker line. Great service and best prices in the area.

Thanks for the review! I am about to be a first time renter and was already looking to rent from apple

I stand corrected

We have a reservation with Apple for their smallest scooter, but I noticed there are no headlights, which has been confirmed by Alex at Apple - does this make a difference for night time use? Thanks.

Good question, I plan on renting from Apple, my first time ever renting a scooter and never even thought about headlights. Curious now to see what others have to say about this.

that can attach to the handlebar. Ours cost about $10 each and we use two, but you can get buy with one. The smaller scooters are without headlights. This has nothing to do with Apple Scooters; the Pride to Go model scooters are this way.

Actually, you can get by without the headlights, but you have to be more careful. The park is lighted at night to a degree and you can stay closer to light sources around the park. Our first time not knowing we were stuck, but we have learned. I like using the headlights; because, others can see me better.

If you alraedy have portable headlights on your bike you are all set; because, you can take them for the trip. A $20 investment that can be used over and over again is not to bad in my book if you have to buy them.
