So my class went to the Apple Orchards for a class trip and each of my 20 kindergarteners got to pick an apple for me. I have 20 apples-any great recipes (besides apple pie) to use some of these apples? I would love to make something to bring in for the kids on Monday.
:)Thanks!

make a cobbler. Bisquick probably has a recipe on the back. I can make one but I just do it from memory-no recipe in writing.

Here-found this on the internet. Looks about right.
Apple cobbler with cinnamon and vanilla, along with a cake-like batter topping.
Prep Time: :
Cook Time: :
Ingredients:
•Apple Filling:
•5 cups tart apples, peeled, sliced
•3/4 cup sugar
•2 tablespoons flour
•1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
•1/4 teaspoon salt
•1 teaspoon vanilla extract
•1/4 cup water
•1 tablespoon butter, softened
•Topping:
•1/2 cup flour, sifted
•1/2 cup sugar
•1/2 teaspoon baking powder
•1/4 teaspoon salt
•2 tablespoons butter, softened
•1 egg, slightly beaten
Preparation:
In a medium bowl, combine apples, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon salt, vanilla and water. Turn into a lightly buttered 9-inch square pan. Dot apples with 1 tablespoon butter.
Combine all topping ingredients. Beat with wooden spoon until batter is smooth. Drop batter in 9 portions, over the apples, spacing evenly. Batter will spread during baking. Bake 35 to 40 minutes at 375° or until apples are tender and crust is golden brown. Serve warm with cream or ice cream.
Serves 6 to 8.

Homemade AppleSauce - w/or w/0ut cinnamon - served hot/cold

Take a large pot and add lemon juice to cover the bottom (sorry I don't measure much)

Peel, core, and cube apples. I usually do 8-10 for a large pot. You can double it and use all your apples if you want, just don't double the lemon juice.

As you cube, place into the pot. Add one cup sugar and 1-3 tablespoons cinnamon. Put on medium heat, bringing to a roll, reduce heat. Stir occassionaly. Once the apples start to soften, use a potato masher and make it the consistancy you want. (We like chunky). After you get the consistancy, taste test for sugar/cinnamon - you may need more. Cook another 30 minutes...

If you want to serve warm at school, use a crockpot on low to rewarm. Serve in small cups with either a sugar cookie/ginger snap for crunch.

Enjoy your apples.

Caramel Apples with Sprinkles!! Kids love that. Just melt the caramel or chocolate if you prefer in a crock pot. Put a popsicle stick in each one and dip. Roll in sprinkles and let cool on wax paper.

These are my favorites. I wish I could do apple pie, but I just can't get it right.

Caramel Apples

INGREDIENTS
6 apples
1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
2 tablespoons milk

DIRECTIONS
1.Remove the stem from each apple and press a craft stick into the top. Butter a baking sheet.
2.Place caramels and milk in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave 2 minutes, stirring once. Allow to cool briefly.
3.Roll each apple quickly in caramel sauce until well coated. Place on prepared sheet to set.

Apple Muffins

INGREDIENTS
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 cups chopped apples

1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter

DIRECTIONS
1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 12 cup muffin pan.
2.In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
3.In a large bowl, beat together butter, sugar and eggs until smooth. Mix in vanilla. Stir in apples, and gradually blend in the flour mixture. Spoon the mixture into the prepared muffin pan.
4.In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, flour and cinnamon. Cut in butter until mixture is like coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over tops of mixture in muffin pan.
5.Bake 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean. Allow to sit 5 minutes before removing muffins from pan. Cool on a wire rack.

Applesauce

INGREDIENTS
4 apples - peeled, cored and chopped
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS
1.In a saucepan, combine apples, water, sugar, and cinnamon. Cover, and cook over medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes, or until apples are soft. Allow to cool, then mash with a fork or potato masher.

Apple Crisp

Ingredients
6 cups sliced, peeled apples
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3/4 cup rolled oat
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup butter or margarine

Directions
Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Place apples in a buttered 2-quart casserole dish. Sprinkle with sugar and lemon juice. In a small bowl, combine rolled oats, brown sugar, flour and cinnamon. Using a pastry blender, cut butter into mixture until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle over the apples. Bake for 40 minutes or until apples are tender.

Caramel Apple Dip

Ingredients
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions
Mix above ingredients. Use as a dip for sliced apples, or other fruit.

Apple Bundt Cake

Ingredients
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
4 large eggs
6 medium apples, peeled, cored and sliced 1/4 inch (keep from turning brown with a little lemon juice squeezed on the slices)

1 cup confectioners' sugar
2-3 tablespoons water

Directions
Preheat oven to 350, and grease a 12 cup bundt pan. In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, salt, and baking soda together. In a large bowl, melt the butter in the microwave, and add brown sugar and eggs, whisking until smooth. Gradually whisk in dry ingredients just until combined- don't overmix. Fold in the apples and spoon batter into the bundt pan, smoothing the top. Bake until a tester inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean (about an hour). Cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, and invert onto a rack placed over wax paper to cool completely. Make the glaze by whisking the water together with the confectioners' sugar adding just enough liquid to make the glaze thick but pourable. Drizzle glaze over completely cooled cake.

:goodvibes There was a great recent thread about this just the other day:

I made the apple crisp recipe on there posted by Darsa (thanks Darsa!) and it was absolutely delicious - it makes a lot and I know your class kids would love it! :thumbsup2

This is the best apple crisp recipe I have ever made, and we are EXTREMELY picky when it comes to our crisp! ;)

10 cups all-purpose apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup water

1 cup quick-cooking oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup butter, melted

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degree C).
Place the sliced apples in a 9x13 inch pan. Mix the white sugar, 1 tablespoon flour and ground cinnamon together, and sprinkle over apples. Pour water evenly over all.
Combine the oats, 1 cup flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter together. Crumble evenly over the apple mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 45 minutes.

Please note! I do tend to cut down the sugar amount some myself; I like to taste the apple first along with the sweetness, ya know? Some people like it sweeter tho, so it's to your own taste. Also, I tend to make a double batch of the "crust" because the recipe above makes it pretty thin. Also to your own taste. :)

YUM!

This is easy and so delicious.

and it was soooooo good...I really had to search this morning to refind this thread..but thought some of you who shared recipes might also like to try this one!

Warm Caramel Apple Cake

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/4 cup whipping cream
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans (I didn't have pecans, so used walnuts!)
2 large cooking apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (about 2 1/3 cups)
1 box Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® yellow cake mix
1 1/4 cups water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
1/4 teaspoon apple pie spice
Topping
2/3 cup Betty Crocker® Whipped fluffy white frosting (from 12-oz container)
1/2 cup frozen (thawed) whipped topping
Caramel topping, if desired

1. Heat oven to 350°F. In 1-quart heavy saucepan, cook butter, whipping cream and brown sugar over low heat, stirring occasionally, just until butter is melted. Pour into 13x9-inch pan. Sprinkle with pecans; top with sliced apples.
2. In large bowl, beat cake mix, water, oil, eggs and apple pie spice with electric mixer on low speed until moistened. Beat on medium speed 2 minutes. Carefully spoon batter over apple mixture.
3. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Loosen sides of cake from pan. Place heatproof serving platter upside down on pan; carefully turn platter and pan over. Let pan remain over cake about 1 minute so caramel can drizzle over cake. Remove pan.
4. In small bowl, mix frosting and whipped topping. Serve warm cake topped with frosting mixture and drizzled with caramel topping.

one cup flour
one cup sugar
one egg
one stick of melted butter
Mix all ingredients together in bowl

6-8 apples peeled/sliced (sprinkle with cinnamon to taste)
Spray Pyrex dish w/ Pam and place apples on bottom
Spread mixture over top
Bake at 350 for one hour

*** Simple and great warm with ice cream
