Is there anyone out there that could tell me why suddenly my cursor thingy isn't working right? I have to hit the space bar or back space key or whatever, for each and every stroke, or it just creeeeeeps across the screen... Wassup with that?!? Grrrrrr!!!

Speaking of Apolo pictures... I have some sad news. I think my hard drive crashed today. I'm on my DHs antique laptop, connected at a screamin' 33600 on our old dial up acct. The computer tech dude thinks the hard drive is probably toast. With the exception of the pictures (Antonio too... ) that had been uploaded to my site, I lost them all. Waaaaah!!!! I don't even want to think about all the other things I lost...I'm not prepared to deal with it yet. Some of my stuff was backed up, but I'd been lax about it lately... Needless to say, today has not been a good day.

Yeah Kim, you popped back on!!! I thought you were done for the night... well I have to go soon but hang in there all won't be lost with your computer. Remember my hard drive crashed on me not too long ago and it was just a boot sector that went bad. I still have a lot of stuff (some software is toast) but all my pictures were saved!!! Go get thee a new hard drive and try setting your other hard drive up as a slave drive and hopefully you will be as lucky as me

Elaine, Oh I do I hope you're right about the hard drive!! Okay, WARNING... Idiot computer illiterate question approaching: How do you determine whether the whole thing is toast or just partially toast?? Highly technical question with all the toast talk and all, I realize... sorry about that...hope I didn't talk over your head. In your case, Elaine, how did you discover that it was not the entire hard drive, but just a boot sector?

You know.... when I talked of keeping this thread alive with substance filled talk once in awhile, this certainly wasn't what I had in mind.

I'd post a picture to balance out the serious/DEPRESSING talk, but I'm afraid it would crash this poor excuse for a computer that I'm using!! Waaaaaaaah!!!!

Kim, if you don't feel like going into all the geek talk right now, just let me know and I'll give you a call later tonight (after I get back from Dad's most likely) and we'll muddle through it. My silly question is how do you know that your HD is toast? As in what isn't working on your computer? I've had two hard drives die on me in my life... the last was the lesser of two evils. The other was not as much fun and I still haven't tried to recover things off of it (and that was about 2 1/2 years ago).

How we knew it was a boot sector on mine was that it wouldn't load windows at all, no matter what we did! How I knew it would work?? Actually I didn't. We just tried it and prayed for the best. I was lucky!! We confirmed it was just a boot sector when we did a scan disk and saw where the error was

Oh and you aren't an idiot with the way you talk. Luis and I are both a bit computer geek-like... the difference is I talk "normal" when speaking of computers and Luis talks all this tech talk that drives me nuts I understood both ways you put it and Luis would have only understood the second way you asked

Losing a hard drive is a very emotional thing for me. My computer is my life and has been ever since I started having my own sort of life (since high school). I was in tears the last time it happened. I am sure you know the feeling, but at least it is just your hard drive because that is about the easiest and cheapest part to replace AND you can do it yourself!!!

Oh no Elaine you didn't scare me. Our stupid cable internet wasn't working. I think its fixed now. This was our 2nd call this week and it took two guys to fix it this time. So we should be ok through the weekend then I'm sure they will be back.

Elaine... I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one to take a crash so hard! I felt so pathetic last night. I just hate this....I know I lost things, that right now, I can't even remember!! Ugh!! As far as how I knew the hard drive was toast....I didn't actually. Since I'm more or less a computer dummy, I was mainly just going by what the tech dude told us yesterday... Concerning what it would or wouldn't do...same as you said, it wouldn't load windows. I'd get part way through the boot up process and then get the dreaded: Primary Hard Disk Failure message. I have talked to him again since I last posted on here and he did say he thinks we'll be able to retrieve some of the stuff, (THANK GOD) so maybe all is not lost after all!
