Apartment Prices

A decent two bedroom year round apartment runs about $1,000. a month.

I'm sure there are less expensive ones, but I wouldn't want to live in them.

Well if your lease pre-dates Katrina you probably pay btw $500-850 for something mid-range(not ghetto, but not country club either). Now the same apt goes for $1000 plus.

I live in Northern VA- about 5 minutes from DC. A two bedroom in my high rise goes for $1800+. In a newer building, it can easily top $2000. This doesn't include utilities or parking typically.

I had a co-worker paying $3000/mo, downtown Manhattan for a 2 bedroom first floor apartment in Battery Park City. Don't think utilities were included. When they moved out last spring the apartment was going to be rented for $3,500. Also had another co-worker that was looking at a 1 bedroom on Central Park West, high floor, nice view of the park. It was over $5,000/month (about 3 years ago). Not sure what was included for 5 grand but for that price it should have come with a private maid. He got a lower floor, saved some money and has recently moved to Jersey with the rest of us poor saps. :teeth:

in NYC - between $3000-5000 a month for a decent 2 bedroom. My 1 bed room (dorrman building) goes for over $2000 a month.

we pay $925 for our two bedroom 1 and 1/2 bath townhouse, including fireplace. we also pay utilities.

our old place which was an OLD 3 bedroom, 2 bath house was $700 a month but that was definitely on the low side around here.

Not so nice ones $700 - $800. Pretty okay ones $900 - $1100.
Nice ones $1100 - $1300. Great ones $1400 and up!

(chicago---and this isn't one of the best neighborhoods either, for say Lincoln Park, up every category by at least $150)

That sounds about right here, too.

I can't imagine finding a 2 bedroom for under $2000. That's crazy - and those rents i wouldn't need a roommate. Ah - the issues that come with living in NYC...

A decent place will run $750 to $1000, a really nice place would run $1100 to as high as you'd want to spend.

I can't imagine paying 2000/month to RENT!!! :faint:

My house payment isn't even 1/2 of that!!!! And I have a GIGANTIC yard! Of course, I am no where near NYC.... And certainly nowhere near the conveniences of NYC! Not that I could afford to be, apparently!

Before dh and I bought our house we were paying $565/month for a 2 BR 1 1/2 bath apt... It wasn't the best, wasn't the worst. No amenities- don't really have those sorts of apt. complexes around here.

To get a really nice 2 BR apt- (fireplace, great location, a little bit of yard, new appliances) it's around $800-$1000... And even at $1000-$1200, you could usually find a 3 BR duplex with a garage for rent.

We live in a 2/2 with about 1100 sq. feet. Gated property, nice apartment, workout room (that I never use!), nice pool (that we do use), nice neighborhood with decent public schools. We also have covered parking, which is nice if they are predicting hail! We are on the 3rd floor with a lake behind our building - very peaceful! We moved in on a special so our rent is lower, but last year our unit was renting for $1165. Trash is an additional $5 per month (but it is mandatory because there aren't any dumpsters, so I don't know why they don't just add that to the rent.) You are billed separately for water but you pay it with your rent.

I think the 2/2 we had a few years ago was about $900 per month. Smaller, no gates, no intrusion alarms, no curbside trash pick up. Both properties are owned by the same company.

I am sure there are cheaper properties out there, but I am not sure I would want to live there! There are places with those "All Bills Paid!" banners that cost less and are all inclusive, but ick!

Yep, true. And that's why we opted to stay in Queens. I refuse to pay those kind of Manhattan prices to get an apartment that would likely be half the size of what we have for twice what we currently pay. Good friends were paying $4,800 a month for a two bedroom in a doorman bldg. Where's that WHAT?! smilie when you need it?

They've since moved to the upper east side and bought a condo for a ridiculous sum that would normally buy a HUGE HUGE HUGE house anywhere else in the country. Then again, they make more money than God between the two of them so it's all relative I guess.

My God how do poor people do it? Seriously I could never afford $1000+ rent! I've been looking for an apartment here because I am payig $470 and that's too much for me right now.

A one bedroom here would run anywhere from $350 - $800 depending on how nice it is and the location.
