When we went to WDW in Feb we weren't DVC members. We went to 3 days of parks and decided to go on and upgrade to 10 days no expiration. That left us 7 days to "eventually" use.

Then..... we joined DVC! Now we have a trip in June, another in Oct and we are planning for 2 weeks in Jan. Those 7 days seem like*nothing* and apparently we *should* have gotten APs, but we had no idea at that time, we were just thrilled to get 7 more days to look forward to.

So, now I am considering purchasing APs and keeping our 7 days. We have the 100 extra developer points and with so many trips planned we would be better off with APs for this yr and save our 7 days for later.

So how much do APs cost? We have 2 adults, 2 kids. Do you feel its worth it? Maybe we should just veg at resorts and save the cash.... I don't know.

I'm a new DVC member and was in the same situation. DH has 5 days left on a no-expiration ticket, DS and I have 13 days left, and my 15 yo brother who came to live with us last summer has no days. We have three trips planned over the next year, so we decided to do PAPs for those and just keep the remaining days. With DVC, you never know when you might just pop down for a few days, and I figure that tickets that never expire will only become more "valuable" to me later (because I paid for them in 2005 at 2005 rates).

Here's what I did:

1) Signed up for Mousesavers in order to get the "special" link for UndercoverTourist tickets (hurry -- the newsletters come out on Tuesday)

2) Bought four tickets with the largest discount from UCT (I bought them last Tuesday and they arrived on Friday by utlizing the $5 express shipping). The discount was $39 per ticket on the 10-day PH.

3) We will each use one day of these new tickets FIRST, then go to Guest Services to upgrade to Premium Annual Passes. If you do this, they will give you credit for the current Gate Price towards to upgrade to the PAP.

With the $125 DVC discount per ticket and the $39 discount from UCT, I will end up saving over $650 total on the PAPs from standard gate prices. I also save over $150 just from using UCT.

Those other tickets will just sit safely at home until I need them.

DVC members get $100 of the standard AP, and $125 off the PAP. The best strategy for stretching the value of an AP, if you go once a year, is to plan your next year's trip for 51 weeks after this year's. That way you'll get two visits on one AP.

Yes, I do have a headache today. I think even if my head was clear it would still get clouded..... You did WHAT? I don't know what all these things are....

Okay...sorry. Maybe this will help:

AP = Annual Pass. It allows you unlimited entrance to the four major parks for a year, but I'm pretty sure you still have to purchase tickets to events like the Pirates and Princess Parties and events like the Halloween and Christmas Parties. It is good for one year from first use and allows holders certain discounts and perks. It costs $477.12 for adults and $420.68 for kids to age 9. DVC members get $100 off these prices.

PAP = Premium Annual Pass. This allows the same benefits as the AP as well as unlimited admission into the minor parks (Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, DisneyQuest, Wild World of Sports) and Pleasure Island. It costs $616.64 for adults and $543.15 for kids. DVC members get $125 off each ticket.

Disney will upgrade any ticket purchased 2005 and after within 14 days of first use. You can purchase discounted tickets from REPUTABLE sellers (such as Undercover Tourist) that are eligible for upgrade to APs/PAPs. They will give you current "Gate Price" credit on the discounted tickets, as long as you use at least one day first. You can get these links to the special deals by signing up for the free newsletter from Mousesavers.com. They have special prices only for Mousesavers subscribers that are the best I have seen. DO NOT purchase tickets from eBay or CraigsList!

So, you have discounts from being a DVC member and for purchasing and upgrading a discounted tickets. I ended up buying over $2400 worth of PAPs (4 tix at $616 each) for just over $1800. For our 3 trips planned, that works out to under $25 per admission (even if we don't go to a park every day).

Does that make more sense?

I think I got it!

I am going to end up with an "airhead" label around here. I went to find out the difference in AP and PAP. I am thinking we will hold off and see how its going. My husband is job hunting. We may end up just soaking in rays at the pool or even renting points if we get in a job crunch.

So if I am reading this right, instead of getting an AP right off I could get say a 5 day park hopper with no expiration online at UCT and then use one day and then when I go to upgrade it to an AP, I would get credit for the current gate price of a 5 day park hopper with no expiration and still get the AP at the DVC discount rate.

Is this just a "plan to do" thing or has this actually be done - successfully?
That almost sounds like something that should fall under "too good to be true".
