AP vouchers and check-in

We just bought AP vouchers for the first time. I also reserved a room with an AP code. Can I check in with the voucher or do I have to go to Downtown Disney to get the voucher activated before I check in at CS?

we checked into csr last month with our vouchers. the cm never even asked to see them!

I've only been asked once to see the AP and the CM said "That's ok" long before I got it out! I've read that occasionally the Desk CM will ask you to show them the real AP once you've had a chance to validate it at the parks. Most of the time, posters report it's not needed.
