AP Upgrade timing

I have a Gold AP voucher for our upcoming trip in August of 2021 this year, so it will be activated in August. We have a trip planned for April of 2022 the week after Easter which is a blackout period for the Gold AP, so I will have to upgrade it to a Platinum AP in order to use it. When do I have to pay for the upgrade??? Can I wait till the week before my 2022 trip? or do I have to do it on the last day of our August 2021 trip? Thanks.

If the reservations are here to stay and you want to make park reservations, I would expect you would want to upgrade as soon as you can in order to make park reservations for the April 2022 trip.

I agree - I'd upgrade before you use it, because you have a voucher for a new AP. They're allowing people to upgrade when they purchase their recovery AP vouchers (what you have) but are currently not allowing AP holders to upgrade after they've been using their AP at a given level. I'd be concerned that the AP program may not be running by August - or that when it returns it will be changed, and at a minimum your cost to upgrade might have increased.

Once it is used, you will only be allowed to upgrade if APs are back on sale. While I expect by April they will be, if they were not, you’d be stuck.

I asked this in June because we may be doing an April trip but I had already used and could not upgrade with passes suspended,

Of course, the newest rumors are the passes will be back sometime before September.
