Do I need to have an AP "in hand" if I book a room using the AP discount? Or can I wait to purchase the AP until closer to our trip? It seems like wasting several months on my pass if I purchase it now and won't be at WDW until December....

You do not have to have the AP until check in if you book an AP rate.

However, if you wanted to go ahead and buy your pass, they will send you a voucher, which then would not be activated until you arrived at WDW, so you wouldn't waste any of the time on your AP even if you buy it months in advance.

You don't need an AP in hand to book just need it when you check in.

But...

AP discounts aren't out yet for December.

If you buy an AP now it would just be a voucher and the clock doesn't start clicking until you activate it at the park.

You may find a better resort package offer that requires a park ticket purchase. I wouldn't purchase an AP just yet to see what other offers are put out for December. Even if you want an AP for more than one trip you can use the "regular" ticket you purchase with a package to upgrade toward the purchase of an AP.

I also had the same question about AP rates. So if I already booked a room for next Jan.2011 and AP rates come out for that time, I can call back and have them add the AP rate to my reservation? I am going in Nov.2010 and plan on purchasing one of the AP's with my GAD voucher then. I am just double checking because I had thought I would need some code or something so they know I have an AP. Meaning some code on the AP that is. Hope I haven't confused anyone with my rambling on. Appreciate any feed back:banana:

Nope, you do not need to have the AP on hand. I've never even been asked at check in for mine. On our first trip, I upgraded to the AP on our last day at the hotel. I brought the AP to the front desk just before we left to show it to them. They thanked me for showing it but told me it wasn't necessary, LOL. I know that was the exception. Usually you are asked for the AP. I probably alwys look so frazzled from the trip that they don't want to ask:rotfl:

Thank you:banana: I am hoping that an AP rate will come out for my dates for early Jan. 2011, or that there will be a Bounce Back offer in my room In Nov. that I can use:thumbsup2

I'd love to throw in a question - does anyone know when they would normally come out with the AP room rate for December? And if there's a traditional discount amount for 'value' season - we'd be going the first week in December.

We're looking at purchasing AP passes during our September trip but I'd like to book the December trip (and have a rough idea of how much it will 'actually' - ie post discount) cost

Thanks!
