If I activated my AP on 10/17/09 can I renew it on 8/1/10 and get the new AP for sixteen months? I know it says that you can renew one month before or after the activation date although this would be more than a month but in the next calendar month. :confused3

I am not sure about the renewal date but the term is only 15 months, not 16.

You have to renew within +/- 30 days of your expiration to get the renewal price (and the extended term, and to get that extended 3 months, you must do it in person at WDW prior to 8/31, per Cheshire Figment, resident DIS ticket CM/guru).

I just got off the phone with WDW Ticketing and was told I could renew my 10/15/09 at any time. I questioned the +/- one month from expiration date and was told that they are taking renewals outside of the +/- one month in order for people to get the 3 month extension.

That may be - if that's what they told you, and provided the person you spoke to knew what they were talking about. Based on what you said they said, it seems possible that they decided to allow it.

I only know what Cheshire Figment/Mike told me about 3 weeks ago in an e-mail. Our discussion though was mainly focused on whether you had to be there in person to get the extension, and he stated that you did - even if you purchased a voucher in advance but couldn't get to the parks to exchange it until Sept 1 or later (in that case you couldn't get the 3 month extension if it was after 8/31).

So you could be right.

I have renewed OCT expiring my DVC AP on line at the end of July or early Aug for the past few years(To avoid the ticket price increase) and got a printed online voucher that I then traded in for AP when I got there in Oct. no problem. Last year they were running the 15 month promotion (but I think it ran to Jan10) and when I handed in my voucher in Oct I got an exprire date of Jan 26, 2011. I would trust what Cheshire Figment says, he advised me last year over on the theme park board. :goodvibes

Just saw this on the passholder section of the disney website:

For Passholder convenience, Passes can be renewed 60 days before and 30 days after the expiration date located on the pass.

In your case, while you did order the voucher ahead of time, you actually renewed within the time frame when you got there in October, which could be why there was no issue.

It now sounds like they have changed the renewal time period to 60 days prior so that is a good thing for members hoping to still get the 15 month extension.

when I renewed the past few years on the Disney site it said 30 days + -for renewal ...but I went online and renewed and paid in late July early Aug(passed expired on Oct 26) far out of that window and was told it did not matter when I took the voucher to be exchanged?

I don't know why you were allowed to renew SO early (even more than 60 days out), but aside from that issue --

When you take the voucher to the window only matters for the 15 month extension (per Cheshire Figment). And the reason he was told was not really a policy reason, but a practical one. He said he was told that on September 1, the computer system would be reset so that all AP renewals would be 12 months only. So it didn't matter if you had purchased your voucher in advance or not, if it was September 1, you were getting a 12 month renewal.

Now since September 1 hasn't happened yet, I guess there's no way of knowing what will happen that day, if you have a voucher already in hand.

This is the only reference I can find on the Disney Site that explains the requirements to qualify to get the additional three month Annual Pass extension. It says nothing that the voucher must be exchanged prior to August 31, it only that it is renewed. I guess it is all in the meaning of the word “renewed” thus when is the pass renewed … at the time you pay for or the time you exchange the voucher.
What is your thought?

"Annual Pass Renewal Discount
Valid if annual pass is renewed by August 31, 2010.
Annual passholders can renew their passes and receive an additional 3 months free! That's 15 months for the price of 12!

Until August 31, 2010, renew an annual pass by your anniversary date, (or within 30 days of your anniversary date) you can earn 15 months for the price of 12.

NOTE: Regardless of when you purchase the renewal, your expiration date will remain your original anniversary date."

I'd say when you renew the pass. I renew our AP each year with vouchers I have previously purchased. I have several years worth of vouchers right now, but they won't be AP's until I use them to renew an expiring AP.

That's good to know. I was told something different. I could buy the renewal voucher whenever I wanted. But, if I tried to turn it in with my AP after the 30 day window, they would not consider my AP renewable any longer and therefore would not accept the voucher.

Of course, since I have never tried it, the CM I spoke to could have been mistaken.

This is great news for us. Our APs expire on 9/25 and we will be going down next week. With this adjustment we will be able to renew our APs while we are there and take advantage of the extra 3 months!:)

Whew! I wish I had a strategic mind. We have annual passes that expire in late November--basically the day we are returning (after a short cruise) this year for a week. Sorta disappointing because we like Thanksgiving week, for vacation reasons, but our annual passes are going to expire at the beginning of that week week every year if we continue this trend.

I'm really interested in offsetting the price increase, BUT we have the volunteer vouchers to use this year, which have to be redeemed in person. It would be worth it to forego the use of the one-day pass value in favor of the price before the price hike IF we were going to get the extra three months (taking us out of the Thanksgiving dilemma).

I wish there was a way to know for certain what Disney will do if you have vouchers that you purchase pre August 31 but don't redeem until November.

Seeing that your renewal date was after the August 31 deadline did you get the following message When your exchange certificates arrived? Were they were affixed to a sheet altogether on one side. The other side of the sheet says

"Enclosed are your Renewal Annual/Premium Annual Exchange Certificate(s).

To receive your new pass(es), please present the enclosed certificate(s), your expired pass(es), and your Disney Vacation Club Member ID Card, with a valid photo ID for each adult showing they reside in your household at any Walt Disney World(R) Theme Park ticket window. Your new pass(es) will be valid for 15 months from your Anniversary Date], which is the expiration date listed on your original pass(es)."

This information is followed by the codes and purchase information for our passes, for which we were charged $344.00 base (regular AP) plus $22.36 tax for each pass.

Shipping for all of the certificates together was an additional $5.00.

Even though you were able to purchase the Annual Exchange Certificate it will be dated after the 15 month deadline therefore it does not qualify for the 15 month. I have the same October expiration date and would like to renew and be assurred that I will get the 15 months so that we can use the pass for January and November 2011. I worry what will happen when we go to exchange it in January, will we get the 15 month or not.
